I met La La in Los Angeles when she was working as a DJ at either Power 106 or 92.3 the beat like 6-7 years ago. She was hosting this part at a club in Simi Valley (Were they acquitted the cops who beat Rodney King)..AND no one showed up.

Me, my girl and my two friends were the only ones there. LOL She pulled up in a limo, came over to the bar bought everyone drinks, sat and chatted for about 15-20 min.. the song “Try again” by Aliyah was hot at the time so we were talking about that and why no one showed up. She gave every one hugs, apologized.. Had the club owner refund our money and then gave us passes to get into her next event the following Saturday.

Since Africans were brought to this country, it has been said Black men want white women. It sure does appear that way, particularly with Black men of a certain income bracket or those in the public eye. In MOST cases their women are either light skinned or not black at all.

Whether we want to admit it or not, Black and most people of the world, still believe white or anything associated with it is superior. Light skin, straight hair, light eyes, and European features. I had hoped by the time I became an adult, our people would have matured on such things, but I actually believe we have gotten worse.

Black Americans minds are POISONED and that is evident by some of the things that have been said on this site thus far. Black people in this country have been programed to believe White is better. We will go out and get pregnant by a white or hispanic fool simply because we want “a light skinned baby with good hair”, and justify if by saying “I just have a preference for light skin”. You will have sista’s wearing 3 shades lighter foundation on their face, and they will justify it by saying, “it’s my preference”. No no no. I would like to see our people healed to the point of where we can look at photos of black people at the Espy awards and the women reflect the true variety in the Black community and not just the light skinned segment. I want to see a day where Black American women are just as comfortable with natural hair as they are with weaves (and Black men accept them for it). I want to see the statistics involving blacks in interracial relationships more balanced. In 70% of all interracial relationships involving blacks, the male is black and the female is of another race. So that means in interracial relationships involving blacks, in ONLY 30% of the cases the female is black. THAT IS ALARMING and begs the questions of why it is so off balance? Is it a case of Black men are attracted to women of other races more, or is it that men of other races aren’t attracted to Black women as much?

When they did the doll study back in the 1960’s, then again in 2000 where they layed out a black doll and a white doll, and asked black children (male and female) a series of questions including which doll was the prettiest and all but 1 chose the white doll, WE AS BLACK PEOPLE CANNOT blow that off as simply, “well it’s their personal preference”. These children grow up to be adults and subconciously STILL hold those thought patterns and will excuse those twisted thought patterns as simply “a preference”.

We may all have our preferences but Black American’s preferences for the most part has been influenced by White standards and as a black person, that bothers me. We have to look a little deeper and heal ourselves.

I have dated on every scale of the color spectrum. I have dated every possible side of Black, Latino, Asian and White. I do admit, I am very proud of my current boyfriend who is a “dark butt”. But he is so fine his complexion never crossed my mind. We have been together for a while now and we are expecting a baby. Life is too short to hate on someone else’s preference. Black women should open up to the possiblity of falling for a nonblack man. I’m attracted to nonblack men, so I can’t hate on these athletes who date the women they choose. Let, these men do them, I bet if Naomi Campbell walked into the a locker room with all these black men who are so crazy about bi-racial or nonblack women, would fall over themselves over her.

Say what you will and only care about yourself, but there is nothing you can say that will make me believe all of those women in those pictures being light skinned is a coincidence. There is nothing you can say that will make me believe the high rates of athletes with non-black or very light skinned partners, is just a coincidence.

Black people using “preference” is just a scapegoat. Many of you same folks would have chosen the white doll and would have never asked yourselves why. Many of you apparently just chalked it up as “preference”.

Look at it this way…successful, highly paid black athletes only make up a tiny percentage of the whole black community. In the bigger picture, despite interracial relationships and marriages which I’m cool with, most marriages are STILL between black women and black men, or at least black babies born per year outnumber biracial black/white babies. We’re still gonna be here regardless.

I have a preference for nonblack men, because that’s who I’m attracted to, so I don’t care who these men date. I, wouldn’t look twice at them , even if I knew they were millionaire athletes.

Candace Parker & Nicole Murphy(who btw, why don’t u lose ur last name? huh?) look beautiful. Braylon Edwards apparently didn’t realize that this isn’ t the BET awards, coming up in there lookin all G’d up. & wat the hell is Lala wearing?

Oh my days… i just wanted to say that everyone looked nice, and then reading some of your comments, the interracial dating thing pops up with people’s preferences…light skinned, chocolate, dark chocolate.

Now let me play devil’s advocate for a minute. Would you females be this upset if Freddy Adu were to show up with a light,bright, close to white? He looks like the type that black females dissed up and down back in the day. But now that he has some dollars, he is a “catch”. Not their “catch” but a catch, that looks good only on paper. I just thought I’d ask.

@92, it’s probably the lasting impact of the One Drop Rule here in the States. I got West Indian family in the UK and they tell me that race mixing is rampant in the UK (mostly black men and white women according to stats), and is generally more accepted. The whole idea of being called biracial in the UK is the norm.

Eddie Murphy’s wife is not attractive to me at all. She resembles a man! And no I am not hating at all. She has a nice body but her masculine face has got to go! LOL LOL. I do think that La La is an attractive woman but that skirt needs to go. It remind me of an ostrich and she should have worn a bra to push her cleavage up!

And as far as the light vs. dark issue is concerned, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I am a darker complexion woman myself. Some folks just have their preferences when it comes to what they find attractive. It might be someone light or dark.

I will admit that Hollywood (acting, singing, sports, etc) tends to give roles more to the lighter complexion folks. Hell, the “darker the berry the sweeter the juice. Black is beautiful and comes in all different shades!!

I am tired of the skin color debate as the be all end all issue. If you ever get a chance to attend a “hollywood” red carpet event (ie. oscars, grammys, emmys etc..) you will understand the pictures don’t begin to speak to the issue we are discussing. The ESPY awards, honor stand out athleticism. These athletes make tons of money, but the people who pay them throw the parties. If I see one more picture of the Beckhams I’m going to just spit. Hollywood is just an allusion. Its a dream you don’t have to buy.

I have had many foreigners speak of Beckham’s mediocre talent in comparison to many foreign soccer players, known and unknown. But if we were to believe all that the American press says and show, he is about the nearest thing to a deity on American soil.

Same perspective for black athletes and white women, only this time, “Hollywood” snaps a picture, creates an image that shows everything except “gold digging” in action. (and successful gold digging requires a “pass” to get into the party.)
