I was an educator on the westide of L.A. county for 20 years. I saw, and met, some of the wealthies people in the world. The thing that stood out the most to me was, their inherent respect for making money, but their lack of pretention about that money.

Black people are a funny bunch, especially the african americans. They hate on each other so much and especially have so much animosity towards the well educated select among them.

Why cant everyone just be happy for successful people? “hating” gets you nowhere, get an education, get a job and maybe the “haters” would afford the vacation to St Tropez.

It’s cool to read different opinions & sometimes certain opinions can leave me confused, empty & bewildered. We’ve got some real issues in the “black community.” I grew up in the 70’s & every black family on my block had a mom & dad in it. All was not perfect but at least back then we seemed to try.

Today it seems acceptable for black men not to claim thier children & for black women to become pregnant by someone whose not commited to them. Something I defintitely notice is that many dark skinned black men are much more proud of their mixed children than they are of their children who are obviously black (at least in Cali). They are quick to show photos of them & to walk proudly in public with them (when they decide to claim them). This is why its so refereshing to see Denzel. A man who could’ve abandoned his family 10x’s over for what I’m sure are a large # of women who would be willing to be in an adulterous relationship with him.

Life is not perfect. I’m glad that by appearances both he & Pauletta decided to work on their marriage & nurture their children to be more than single parents, drug addicts/dealers, video vixens, pimps etc. And Judah, wow, you sound like I did in the 80’s before crack decimated our communities.

Today,I’m glad that my parents sacrificed to give me options in life. I have a college degree. Is it the end all to beat all? Yep that’s the mindset I had in the 80’s until people who had a complexion like me became pawns in the crack epidemic by both selling & using to people who looked like them….Thank you Denzel & Pauletta & any other black families out there who are demonstrating love for their children by giving them more than a death sentence, emaciated bodies & Gucci in this mans USA.
