MANDELA’S 8 LESSONS OF LEADERSHIP

Monday, July 21, 2008

Nelson Mandela, who celebrated his 90th birthday on Friday, recently sat down with TIME managing editor Richard Stengel, who collaborated with Mandela on his 1993 book Long Walk to Freedom to discuss what it means to be a leader.

According to the article:

Mandela is the closest thing the world has to a secular saint, but he would be the first to admit that he is something far more pedestrian: a politician. He overthrew apartheid and created a nonracial democratic South Africa by knowing precisely when and how to transition between his roles as warrior, martyr, diplomat and statesman.

Stengel says the lessons “are calibrated to cause the best kind of trouble: the trouble that forces us to ask how we can make the world a better place.”

Also, in honor of the world’s great hero, Stengel narrated a photo essay offering a look at the life and leadership of Madiba, Mandela’s clan name and what everyone close to him calls him.

It’s wonderful to witness what Mandela STILL continues to accomplish and not read about it in history books.
What a beautiful thing !

While in High School I wrote a 12 page essay on Nelson Mandela…this was during the time of his release from prison. I will never forget the number of hours I spent in front of my television watching CNN and educating myself on the man that the world knows as Nelson Mandela. I can go on and on about the good that he has done, but there is no need to. His legend speaks for itself.

Nelson Mandela is and was what this world needed and needs the most. He is an activist of true genuine character unlike other fake civil rights leaders parading in front of the cameras today…I will refrain from naming names. Mr. Nappy Head and Mr. Big Mouth knows who I am talking about.

————-The only “leadership” that Mandela can teach is how to betray his own
————-people to the white man. That is all that this man has done. He was
————-utilized as an agent against his own and he is being applauded for it. As
————-far as his “transition” from warrior to politician, it happened in accordance
————-with his agreement to be bought off and immediately put into a position of
————-power. This has been the modus operandi of the white man since
————-Alexander the Greek, to set up puppet leaders. No man comes out of prison
————-after 27 years and gets put directly into an authoritative position in any
————-governemnt unless he’s reading from a script. Whenever you see devils like
————-Bill Clinton and George W. Bush praising a man, that man must be of
————-Satan himself.

Judah, your angry black man conspiracy theories have become annoying at this point. You should either explain your statements or refrain from commenting…

I can’t believe he’s 90 yrs old. That’s awesome! I wish we had more minority leaders… maybe more would be doing something w/ their lives now.

Either Shaking My Head at #7 or Laughing at him…either way, it is terribly sad to have read something like that, written by the hands and from the mind of a beneficiary of Mr. Mandela’s struggle AND success. I suggest YOU and everyone read the article in Time Magazine. It is very powerful and enlightening. What’s just as sad is that there are less than 15 comments about this particular post.

And for the record #7…Satan does not give hope, he takes it. Satan does not inspire the masses, he deflates dreams. Satan does not unify, he creates only chaos. Only God can give a man or woman the power to uplift, unify, and inspire. Only God. For your own sake, never call one of God’s chosen people , of satan. Thats an insult to all of us who chose to continue in his footsteps (however GOD choses to use us).

#15 you must be JUDAH commenting again. You speak with so much disdain for the man. And its sounds very personal.

Well said HOLLOWAY, and so true! South Africans, more especially blacks South Africans have so much love, devotion and admiration for Mandela. He’s what MLK was to the civil rights movement in the US.

It’s so good to see the media praise a BLACK person, like they’ve done for MLK for many years. He truly is a hero…Happy Birthday to him.
