Monday, July 14, 2008
Tyler Perry is continues his yearly film release with the much anticipated film “The Family That Preys”. The movie starring Sanaa Lathan, Taraji P. Henson, Alfre Woodard, and Kathy Bates centers around two very different families matriarchs being torn apart by greed, scandal, and lots of great drama that makes up a good Perry film.
This is the sixth film release for Tyler and is due out in theaters this fall on September 12, 2008…

WOOOOWWW!! WHen I first heard about this I thought it was gonna be some TRASH! In the same vein as his stupid movies with Madea and her retarded family members. But after watching the preview this looks like it will be very good, hopefully as good as Why Did I Get Married or better. Love Sanaa and Taraji so Ill be there.
I only hope it doesnt suffer from too many story lines and not enough character and plot development.

i don’t know. i just rented “meet the browns” and was really mad…i stopped watching about 20 minutes in….
tyler may have stepped out of his lane on this one…although i can’t see kathy bates or alfre woodard doing anything but so wack…
but then who thought angela bassett would either, cause she must have read that script for meet the browns first….
and also damn, tyler you couldn’t find a better afro wig than that???

OMG this looks as if it is going to be great! T. P. knows exactly what he is doing and I am soooo not mad at him. He has already won over the African American audience and now he is broadening his horizons and introducing white people to his storylines! He’s also employing our GOOD black actors too! I loves it!

I am so very proud of Tyler Perry. I’m a former resident of New Orleans, LA. He is really showing Hollywood what he is made of. I believe that he has Spike Lee and John Singleton status. I don’t believe that he is trying to be like someone else, I just think that he wants everyone to recognize his great work. His movies are getting better and better. Let’s not just support his efforts that have the character “Madea” in it. This is going to be good.

I’m not one to clock anyone else’s dollars but this cat really needs to slow down a little. Why release all these movies so quickly? And it’s not like they’re all qulaity movies. Sometimes quality trumps quantity. I would be more inclined to see this if I had built up some anticipation. But at this point I would just feel like I’m being used for my money. Tyler Perry does not care about movie lovers.

Looks good. Internal conflicts, relationship problems, testing of morals, virtues (at least thats what it looks like the story line is going to include). I sooo appreciate a black writers & black directors taking things in different directions. Leave the guns & crap out the movies sometimes, hell I can see that stuff out in the streets. Black ppl have the same struggles as everyone else.
Show more ppl in good positions. Owning businesses.
BTW this is the third time Alfre’s played Sanaa’s mom:Something New, Love & BBall.

@28 Shawna
I was going to put something like that in my post but changed my mind. Somehow Tyler’s movies always seem to disappoint me just a bit. Like how he would slightly borrow scenes from other movies. The plays were always good. But I’m going to ride w/ him becuz ‘Why Did I..’ was a bit of a stretch from the rest of the others.
As far as his tv show: He told us to stick w/ him and it hasn’t gotten any better. I’m just saying if he can’t do it all, hire ppl who can make this sh*t happen. To tell the truth I don’t know who he has working w/ him but w/ all the influence & opportunity I hope he’s using it well.

This movie is going to be so good! I’m so proud of Tyler.Cole Houser (white male) and Kathy Bates (older white woman) are both really good actors and Tyler is a genius because this will appeal to alot of different people.
Cole was in the the 2nd Fast and Furious movie with Tyrese and Paul Walker and he
has a really commanding presence on screen, so powerful…oooh la la!! I’ll be first in line because the chemistry between him and Sanaa is going 2 be amazing and I love Tarjii and Alfre! How exciting!! You guys no matter what negative or positive opinion that you may have look at far we’ve come, I’m so proud of us!!

the name is definately not confusing..wow..lmbaooo…”two very different families matriachs being torn apart….”duh
i dont care what people say about Tyler Perry,i think everything he has done w/the exception of “Meet The Browns” was GREAT!..meet the browns was not good to me because it had NOTHING to do with the PLAY…most of the content came from his last play “Whats Done In The Dark..” i’ve been watching his plays/movies for 6 or 7 years now and still can laugh like its the first time
most people dont seem to like his work that includes Madea but if you from the south then you can relate because most likely you have a relative who acts like “madea”

In spite of her scandalous marriage to Mike Tyson, I’ve always liked Robin Givens as an actress. She was great in The Women Of Brewster Place, A Rage In Harlem and Boomerang. Happy to see she is working with Tyler Perry. He seems to give the Black actresses their props by giving them a chance to work in solid movie projects. That’s what’s up.

I must say I’m impress, Tyler Perry is talented, but let us admit, he does tend to make ghetto-stereotypical movies of what he thinks african americans “would like”, or feel they been through or can relate to……………………but this movie is different, he has stepped up tremendously, its a movie that all people can relate to, not just one specific group of people. go tyler perry!

boy i am so glad its not headlining Jennifer screaming Hudson.
I was so mad at first when i heard she was the main star and Sanaa was the co-star, now i see Tyler had some sense to drop her. Thank God
How in the fck does Jennifer Hudson be a lead and Sanaa a co-star, that woulda been real fcked up.
I dont give a fck bouther, she just lucked out on that oscar. If u aint earned your keep in the industry and you win an oscar, i really dont give a fck bout you. Just like i dont give a fck bout Cuba Gooding. Why. My Philosophy is earn ya keep before you earn an oscar so you can respect the value.

I don’t know. I mean trailers are meant to build a movie up and make it look good. The trailer is supposed to make you wanna go see the movie. I’ve fallen for a good trailer before where Tyler Perry is concerned, but been disappointed with the finished product when I went to see the movie. To be quite frank, I feel that Mr. Perry is a sub-par screenwriter who only gets so much acclaim because he is just about the only black man in Hollywood producing movies targeted towards blacks. If a truly talented black producer/writer would come along and give him some competition then everyone would see that his movies really aren’t all that great. But I do try to, like most of you all, to support anything black that has positive intentions. I’m glad he’s employing a lot of actors and actresses that usually don’t get their fair share of work (ie…Cicely Tyson, Kimberly Elise, Angela Bassett, Sanaa Lathan, Alfre Woodard). I just feel that he really needs someone to check him. Hell maybe he needs to take a couple of classes on screenwriting, because Meet the Browns was just horrible! JMHO…I mean you know the white folks who distribute his movies don’t care, because no matter how bad they are, they always return a profit..

I wholeheartedly agree with you Jaye. But Tyler created his legacy; whether we like it or not. Success isn’t about the most talented person. Never was. It’s always about the person with the most persistence. I didn’t like “Why Did I get Married?” cause the story-line was weak; but I salute Tyler for doing things his way and turning thought into action. I mean bro did live in his car and now he’s vacationing with Oprah.
I always check myself cause it’s easy as hell to move my fingers across the keyboard and criticize. But I can’t possible know what it feels like to be Tyler Perry and arrive at a happy medium that will please all black folks including critics like me. If I want a better film I better make one.
