Despite impressive and consistent success, phenomenal performances, and respectable public persona, I also not been impressed with Alicia’s voice or music, partly because of a perceived limited vocal range and the “heaviness” of her music. Her latest effort has knocked me off of my feet; it is, not only my favorite album of 2007, but squarely in my list of top ten of this decade. “As I Am” features simply amazing musical compositions and vocals to wake up Mariah. I strongly recommend a a few listens. Best.

I’m not gonna get into the argument segment of this post. I just wanna say congrats to A Keys. They obviously saw something in her that would fit the theme song more so than the other artists mention point blank. Brian I went to A Keys concert back in April of this year. Her voice was amazing. She was dances and all sounding great, not to mention the segment when she just sat at her piano with no background singer or instruments. It was just her and her piano and the audience and she tore it up. What she did with her vocals on this album, many younger people can’t relate to. It was a trick of the voice Billie Holiday and others did back in the day to reveal more emotion. If you don’t know about it then of course you would assume that she’s just straining her voice.

If you love artists like Ashanti, Rihanna, etc. then you sound silly saying that Alicia is lacking something in her voice.

Ciara looks great on the cover also. I’m not into Solange enough to care about her video blag and cursing.

The Solange Video Blog is interesting, because I always thought that a reality show (although i hate most of them) would help her career. When Ashlee Simpson came out with her CD, I truly believe it would not have been half as successful if she didnt have the show. For solange the show may open her up to a whole new fan base, and from her stlye and personality I think it would make for good t.v.

i don’t think alicia keys has that classic enough voice to do the bond theme……i would have loved for amy winehouse to do it because she has that distinctive voice that has been paired with recent bond themes. But we all kno that amy is crazy, going through a rough time in her life….but they could of found somebody else like Duffy or Joss Stone or even beyonce because her voice is more versatile. i just don’t see AK doing it, but hey i guess its their choice and i wish her the best of luck.

Now a few observations: Why do people write in all CAPS thinking that that will make their message stronger? It won’t. In fact it makes you look ignorant. If your comments have substance and meaning, CAPS are not necessary.

Brian, not sure where you were going by saying Alicia has “limited vocal range.” Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that was innacurate, provocative and baseless. Leave that type of comment to the bloggers. Your job is to give us the story. It should end there.

I agree once before I said that I found Alicia boring but I went and really listened and I enjoy As I Am. All the artist you mention does bring something different to the table if everyone was the same then music would be boring. I love artist that is able to express themselves weaves, piano and all. If Alicia gave up the piano and Bee stop with the weaves than we would say they were trying to be sdomething they are not.
