MUSIC NEWS: TIMBALAND TO PRODUCE NEW JAY-Z ALBUM / LUDACRIS WORKS ON 6th LP / BOBBY VALENTINO INKS A NEW DEAL
Thursday, July 17, 2008
Seems as though our boy Jay-Z is gearing up to release a new album, a follow-up to 2007’s American Gangster. And it seems as though Jay-Z has signed on Timbaland to take on the helm of the project.
Keri Hilson stopped by MTV’s TRL on Monday with Timbaland, and apparently he gave some insider information about working with Jay-Z on the upcoming album.
“He wants me to do the whole thing this time around,” Timbaland said Monday during a visit to the MTV News office.
“I’mma make it a classic too. You better believe it. It’ll be a monster! I always say this: ‘You get a first single from me, I’mma get you up to gold.’ And it’s hard to get you up to gold in this day and age.”
Timbaland will be hitting Jay-Z off with a more “worldly,” international sound, which definitely should be an interesting task for Hova to take on.
“We wanna go to the world,” he added.
“The world is ‘Big Pimpin’.’ ‘Big Pimpin’ ‘ is an international hit, so we wanna do 10 of those. Meaning, some of the songs gonna sound like M.I.A. would rap on some of the beats. You gonna be like, ‘Whoa!’ But it’s Jay on ‘em. That means it reaches everywhere. I’mma have songs with bagpipes. The music is gonna be so worldwide, he’ll be able to tour the rest of his life, maybe, off just this one album. The Jay-Z album is gonna be phenomenal. You know why? We don’t care. We’re doing great music just to do it. We doing it for our fans who love us to say we ain’t quit. I’m doing it ’cause that’s my homeboy.”
Ever since Timbaland jumped on with Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake for his “production comeback,” he really has been going strong. I think it’ll be interesting to see what they come up with. I’m also excited to see what he’ll be doing for his next album, Shock Value II.
LUDACRIS WORKS ON 6th LP

Ludacris is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on his forthcoming album, Theater of the Mind. The new project, which is Ludacris’s 6th studio album to date, will be a conceptual album. That seems to be a trend this year.
Theater of the Mind is set for an October 21st release.
“The whole album is theatrical, conceptual-wise. Every song you hear sounds like a scene from a movie,” Luda tells MTV News.
I’m interested in seeing what Ludacris is coming up with for this concept album.
BOBBY VALENTINO INKS A NEW DEAL

Bobby Valentino has inked a new deal with EMI/Capitol records, after being allegedly dropped from Def Jam, and leaving Ludacris’s Disturbing Tha Peace label.
Bobby released an independent album via iTunes after the release of his last album, Special Occasion, which didn’t do as well as I think Def Jam expected it to. But it seems as though the release of the independent album, Come With Me helped Bobby obtain the new record deal with Capitol Records.

As much as i love Tim’s beats, let be real homeboy production skills is limit. Damn near every hip hop track he produce is one of the basic high energy track’s that sound great in the club and ur car, but nowhere else. He doesn’t produce tracks that someone could laid back and chill too or produce anything with a street.gutter sound. Like i said homeboy is talented but I’m not trying to hear that taxi cap/indian music for 60+ min.

Def Jam really do make me sick the always be talking crap about how there disappointed with some of their artists album sales but what the hell do they expect if they aren’t gonna promote it properly, Bobby V’s album was quite decent but they didn’t promote it properly and yet they expected it to sell millions..they only released like 1 song i think…., so what do they expect… i wish they would have released “Rearview” cuz that song was hawt!!

Jay Z is talented and Timbland is a great producer , so I will sit back and wait with excitement. I must admit I really wonder why he is dropping CD after CD. Maybe he has new goal to go platinum in week. He is a good business man. He really looks nice in pink and I am true advocate of men not wearing pink. Cameron KILLED that for me. With that being said Jay is wearing it well. Just dont over due it Jay.
Luda is a great artist and I am pretty sure he will come out with club bangger.

I stopped buying jay-z after Blueprint 2.whatever
he talks about crack and we know he don`t sell it and he talks about his riches and don`t tell niggas how to get them. am 19 and got it made b4 i even turn 21 BUT guess what? I teach lil and big niggaz how to make it(Not by tellin em how I make the jews get rich off ACE OF SPADES)
I HATE U SO MUCH RIGHT NOW(the black community and i`m not even FOX)
i`m not a BIG fan of JIGGA but damn you gotta be dumb to be a 40 year old rapper cos that only works of rockers well at least he is RICH unlike wu-tang which got 60 year olds

I’m tired of JAYZ. How long does he plan to rap….until he’s 80 years old? There comes a time in everyone’s career, when you truly RETIRE and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
He’s trying to get this international flava out there like he trying to take over the world or someting…. but no matter what you try or how good your music is, there will always be a vast population of people who will not like it. You simply can not, nor will you ever, please everyone.
Legends like Run DMC, Sugar Hill Gang, Dug E Fresh, and etc. have retired when they were at the top of their game. JAYZ is being greedy and trying way too hard now. He has nothing more to prove. SIT DOWN!!!!!!

…….I really enjoyed the American Gangster CD. Jay lost me as a fan after the chaos that went down with the Roc and that he has too many character flaws as a person. Kingdom Come was some garbage but he did his thang on AG.
…….I do not like Timbaland. People always comment Kanye’s ego but no one mentions how arrogant Timbaland is. No matter what interview he is in, he’s talking about how he is the greatest, how no producer in the game can touch him, taking verbal shots at others, but no one points this out. I don’t like his steroid taking azz.
…….I’ve always loved my Luda. He is one of the most underrated rappers in the game. It is time for him to switch up his flow because come on now Luda, even 50 switches up his flow well so I know you would spit fire if you did.
…….I don’t think I know any other Bobby V song outside of Blackberry Molasses and Slow Down. Next!!

I want Jay to stop right about now. So basically he’s releasing a POP album. That’s basically what “international” is. When you try to go international as an R&B artist or a rapper you’re basically going pop. I guess.
He’s probably trying to outdo Lil Wayne’s first week sales. Which I doubt will happen, unless he pulles a big publicity stunt, which he’s notorious for.

Can we PLEASE stop with all of the hating?!?! Hip-Hop heads, I know you’re out there….so feel me on this one. Why is Hip Hop music the only genre that have these ignorant fans that are always crying “….sit down….he’s too old….?” NO other genre of music has such feeble minded fans. The man is making albums for TRUE Jay Z fans. Ice Cube does the same; he continues to make music for ICE CUBE fans. You find out who the TRUE fans are when they release albums that may not be CRITICALLY acclaimed, but reach the fans that appreciate the craft of true MC’s. Do U2 fans ever cry about Bono being too old? How about Elton John fans, or Aerosmith fans, for that matter? No….only black folks have that crab-in-the- barrell mentality that tries to limit the TRUE artists of the hip-hop genre. THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX.

American Gangster “awful” What??! Are you on some kind of …. Nevermind, I
digress… and regardless to what scientific studies have concluded, opinions are going to out live the cockroach by 5 billion years! Whatever.. C-EST LA VIE… But and however, American Gangster is an incredible album!! From top to bottom.. period! American Gangster “awful” The F outta here!
Yo for real… and I say this with the most sincerity, I AM TRUELY AFRAID OF THE FUTURE!.. Based on comments like that and the release of the majority of the music over this last 5 yrs or so, It’s a WRAP!!
:PSA: To everyone who truely appreciates and values good music, while you still have a chance, burn a cd better yet, find a way to make a cassette tape to remind you of when music was good, of your favorite artists past to present with an emphasis on ‘past’. Snatch up as many Marvin, Luther, Whitney, Sade, Stevie, Prince, Coltrane, Aaliyah, Maroon 5, A Keys, Jay, Biggie, and a select few other albums as you can. Pack the basic necessities for survival, look down, jump in a car, plane, boat, or whatever that can get you the heck outta dodge and don’t look back! CUZ IT’S A WRAP!!

I guess that Jay z and Timbo finally settled this thing they had going. It probably took Timbo to recognize Jay has one of the best rapper ever and Jay to acknowledge that Timbo is the one of the best producer ever. Only Timbo has THAT sound. That man is a genius. Static Major could have done great things too (Rip), Lollipop
has “interresting” lyrics but the “riddim” is hitting the target.

The only people that could dare think that JAYZ is an icon for rap music has to be about 20 years old and under. You probably were no where around to hear real geniuses like Tupac, Biggie, Curtis Blow, Run DMC, Tribe Called Quest, etc. and just about all the cats in the late 70’s and 80’s that pioneered rap music.
I give JayZ his props, but legendary, in my opinion HARDLY. The other rap geniues have either left the game to do bigger things, or are no longer with us. JayZ is in your face so all you can see is him. Don’t get it twisted, he’s a product, not a prodigy.

He has one more album to do with Def Jam and that’s why he keeps making all these albums back to back. He ain’t not fool. That man’s about his money! And who gives 2 shits about his age if he’s making better music than niggas half his age? Tina, Aretha, Patti, Prince, Anita…all of them are still touring/making albums and no one seems to care about that when they’re all over 60! REAL MUSIC HAS NO AGE LIMIT!

JAY IS EASILY STILL THE BEST RAPPER IN THE GAME. He still spittin’ on any subject better than all these rappers out - they admit it themselves. Jay should never leave rap alone because there aren’t like him out. Nas spits knowledge - my many, whereas Jay combines knowledge with poetry, party and lifestyle. He’s a beast on the mic. I think he has 1 more album after this that’s due on Def Jam - I’ll be glad when he finishes with them.
Also, people kill that retirement talk. This is the only genre and race of music that calls for their people to retire. Beastie Boys are 50 and still rapping and their fans would never call for them to retire. Nor would rock or metalists fans and they’re old as dirt.
Appreciate good music as long as the artist can give it. We’d be stuck with all those 1 hit wonders or country whack rappers if it weren’t for the heads like Nas and Jay holding down rap for real.

@ # 58 ummmm…no. Speak for yourself alone because there are PLEANTY of people 20 plus yrs old, that feel that Jay is and icon and or one of the best.. And most of those people who feel that way about Jay, have similar feelings about other great rappers and emcees like Run DMC, Biggie, Pac, Tribe, and many other great rappers and emcees. Just because YOU (What’sGoingOn) just so happen to be over 20 and YOU feel differently about Jay, doesn’t mean the majority of the people in the 20 plus age group hold your point of view. Usually it’s the younger people saying things like that. Anyway…
That’s the problem right there. AGE and a host of other frivolous superficial entities. People make age such an issue, when age should be the last issue of importance when it comes to music. As a matter of fact, age shouldn’t enter the equation AT ALL when it comes to music. However, labels are constantly pushing music towards certain age demographics, for various reasons, most having nothing to do with the music itself, just a bunch of superfical b.s. Music is music! It has no predjudices! It doesn’t discriminate against age, race, appearance, or any other superfical iteams.
Society tries to place music in a box by bringing superfical stipulations into music such as: age, appearance/beauty, race, and etc. When that happens, thats when music suffers.. and right now in 2008 music sure as hell is suffering! Thank God that when Micheal Jackson was 6 years old, he shared his gift. Thank God that when he
and his brothers were 10 yrs old & etc.., someone over at Motown appreciated their music and believed in them enough to allow them to make music regardless of their age. Thank God that in 1969 the general public was more intereted in their music, than interested in their age and skin color. If left up to closed minded people like we have now days running around yelling, this one’s too old, that one’s to young, there never would’ve been a Jackson 5!
I believe in allowing music to speak for itself. The only way that can happen is if artists are unhibited by superfical b.s. such as age, physical apperance, etc, and are allowed to create the music that they want to create, when, where, and how they want to create it. However, record companies don’t allow artists to create freely… But I’m not going there because the record label subject alone is another 50 pages. The point is, and it’s not limited to the subject of music, society as a whole, has to get over all of these prejudices if we ever want to see a thriving..productive world.
I don’t care what you do, how old your are, or what you look like, all I care is that you do what makes you happy without bringing harm to others. If Jay and any other artists wants to make music until they die, let them! Who is anyone, to say they shouldn’t! The beauty of a democracy is, if you don’t care for a certain kind of music, you don’t have to listen to it. There are MANY artists who’s music I don’t care for and a few of them are the “most popular” artists out right now. I share my opinion about their music from time to time. However, you’ll never hear me knock them because of their age or any other superfical reason. You’ll also never hear me say an artist
should quit their career.. because no what I feel about them, they have the right to make music no matter what I or anyone else feels.
Live and let live! Peace.

Everyone needs to let go of Jay’s “retirement.” It was five years ago already, he’s back, it’s old news. Let the man do his thing, he’s still by far the best lyrically, though his flow has certainly deteriorated (but that’s the case for everyone).
Yes, there’s no doubt he’s past his prime which ended with The Black Album, but I really liked Kingdom Come, and American Gangster wasn’t too bad. He’s still the ONLY rapper I get excited about these days, even if he’s not as hot as he once was. Let him do his thing. I can’t imagine a Timbo and Jigga collab turning out to be bad.

To #58…
You obviously haven’t listened to very much Jay. I’m sure you’ve only really heard his huge hits, which are typically shallow bangers. I’ve been around a long time too, I loved Pac (who didn’t?), he touched so many people, but nobody dead or alive can touch Jay lyrically. Look deeper into Jay’s albums. Listen to the songs you’ve never heard of before. If you still can’t see his genius it’s either over your head or you just don’t want to see it.
As far as him not being legendary? That’s just ignorant. He’s the biggest hip-hop trend setter of all time. That alone makes him legendary, regardless of his music quality.
Yeah, we all miss/praise Pac and Biggie, but I don’t think either of them could have carried on as Jay has. If anyone had a shot, it was probably Big L. He was a serious monster lyrically, I think he just lacked image or something. it’s a shame we couldn’t hear more from him.
RIP to the greats, and let Jigga keep doing his thing. He’s been the best out since ‘96. I’m pretty pumped about Em’s return too, but I donno if he’ll be able to bring it like he used to.
