Check out the official second single from Ne-Yo, “Miss Independent,” from his third album, Year of the Gentleman. The new album is set to hit stores August 5th, after a couple of push-backs. I thought that the first single, “Closer” would have been a lot bigger over in the United States than it was, especially with the video getting so much play.
Perhaps “Miss Independent,” despite its mediocrity to the first single, will give the album the push it needs. Hopefully, Ne-Yo has some stronger material to release from the album, because if “Miss Independent” is all we had to look forward to, I’m losing interest.

I thought this album was supposed to be a recreation of his sound/style? I only see a recreation of his style (dressing more grown up…?) but his music is still the same. which by all means isnt bad, but not great, nahmean?…but people/fans expect to see/hear growth in an artist they enjoy. If they dont see/hear that growth…those fans find it somewhere else…you gotta grow, Ne-Yo…

Disappointing because I am HUGE fan. He needs to read the songs he write for himself before he records them. I am seriously leaning towards not buying this cd and I own the other two. The music is the same he needs to switch it up work outside the box get some new producers.

I Love it. The lyrics is something that independent women need to hear from our man. It’s Neyo’s voice of appreciation that we (women) usually don’t hear enough from the man that’s in our life. Men say that they want an independent woman, but get one and try to walk all over us. Most times men fail to respect our independence or become threaten by it, so they avoid acknowledging us (women) and our significance for being independent.
Thank God I’m done with unappreciative men who are threaten by my independence. If anyone has something negative to say about this song, most likely it’s because they can’t relate. Hearing this song, felt like a song from my man to me : )

I digs. I liked it from the first 5 seconds. “Closer” didn’t too well because its has an international sound to it. The US isn’t ready for that yet, although that seems to be the trend in R&B right now. Chris did it with “Forever”.

I LOVE it! I love the reggae vibe! STARGATE does it again…they are so talented. And them together make an awesome combination. I think an artist can grow and stay true to their roots at the same time. This sound is what makes Ne-Yo unique. The subject matter alone shows maturity in itself. Good luck NeYo!
