NEW MUSIC: Raphael Saadiq - “OH GIRL”
Monday, July 28, 2008

New music is slowly being leaked from multi-talented Raphael Saadiq’s newest project, The Way I See It (due September 16th on Columbia Records). The new album definitely has a throwback Motown feel (with new promo photos to match).
Saadiq on the inspiration for the album:
“I was cooling out and surfing in Costa Rica and The Bahamas,” recounts Saadiq, “and ran into people from all kinds of places. I noticed everybody was listening to classic soul music. When I came back home the music for this album flowed organically, naturally. Since I have my own studio, I was able to perfect it, take my time to make it right. I was able to live with it, day after day and that had a lot to do with how the album turned out.”
Shout out to Dope Joints for sending this one over. For more info on Raphael’s newest project, click the link above..

Raphael Saadiq is one talented man. His music is meaningful and filled with emotion. This sounds like a throwback to the Motown days. He has never disappointed me with his cds.

@#1: I feel ya.
This is what we, ol` skool, call “real music. Man this is the jam and I luuuuvvvv it. Raphael really know how to write and has a good instinct on how to reach the best human emotions. This song is so on point from the vocal arrangements to the production. It definitely has that ol` Motown vibe and that what we ol` heads have long for. I grew up in the 80s when real talent was showcased, unlike today, and artists really brought it. Raphael brought the heat with this jam.

Damn, this song was definitely old school influenced. It immediately reminded me of:
“Betcha By Golly, Wow” by The Stylistics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-tqo06pLXE
What do you ya’ll think? He sings in a similar key too, to the lead in this song.

Raphael is shaping up what looks like the most memorable project of his solo career. I am awe-stricken with how aptitude for blending the sound of the late 60’s with early 70’s artists such as Stevie Wonder (see first leaked track 100 Yard Dash) Smokie Robinson, The Stylistics, Marvin Gaye, etc. I am extremely excited about this album and I’m glad to see all the goos feedback. This is the kind of music we need to get behind.
P.S. If the Grammy voters have any grip on reality, they better start rolling the carpet out for Mr. Saadiq right now…

I will have to include his album to the fall selection. That would be Jasmine Sullivan and Raphael Sadiq. I’ve been waiting on good music for awhile now. I’m what many would consider an “old soul”.

Love this guy. He makes good quality music. Loved him when he was with Tony, Tony, Tone.
Unfortunately, like so many underrated artist, this won’t get played on mainstream radio stations. The big executives only promote music with violence, music that lacks substance, bubble gum lyrics and sex. The music industry has really gone to the dogs.
