Democratic presidential candidate, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., is joined by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., during a campaign stop in New York, Thursday.
Going after the women’s vote, Obama chastised Republican John McCain on Thursday over his opposition to an equal-pay Senate bill, his support for conservative-leaning Supreme Court justices and his abortion-rights objections.
“I will never back down in defending a woman’s right to choose,” the likely Democratic nominee said, drawing a sharp contrast with his GOP rival.
JESSE JACKSON APOLOGIZES
Rev. Jesse Jackson speaks during a news conference in Chicago, Wednesday, July 9, 2008. Jackson apologized Wednesday for comments he made about Barack Obama’s speeches in black churches during what he thought was a private conversation with a reporter.
Jackson set off an uproar for saying he wanted to cut off Obama’s testicles for talking down to Black Americans.
Jackson hurried to apologize to the Democratic presidential candidate, apparently after learning that Fox News had recorded the remark was going to air it on Wednesday.
“I said something I felt regret for — it was crude,” Jackson told CNN.
Jackson said he was “very distressed” that his remarks have became public because he said he is deeply supportive of Obama’s White House bid.
It happened, he said, when a fellow guest on a Fox News show last Sunday asked Jackson about Obama’s speeches at Black churches.
“I said it can come off as speaking down to black people,” said Jackson, recounting his remarks. “The moral message must be a much broader message. What we need really is racial justice and urban policy and jobs and healthcare.”
While Obama accepted the apology through a spokesman, his own son, Jesse Jackson Jr. publicly condemned him.
“I’m deeply outraged and disappointed in Rev. Jackson’s reckless statements,” the younger Jackson said. “I thoroughly reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric.”
Rev. Jackson has a history of making critical statements about Obama. In November, he wrote an op-ed column in the Chicago Sun-Times that lambasted all of the presidential candidates, including Obama, because they “have virtually ignored the plight of African Americans in this country.”
Last September, the elder Jackson accused Obama of “acting like he’s white” for failing to take an aggressive role in denouncing the treatment of six black teens who were saddled with severe criminal charges for allegedly beating a white student in Jena, La.

jesse blew it yet again. it’s sad because at one time jesse was relevant and highly regarded in the black community. now he appears to be an old bitter and jealous man who can’t savor the strides and contributions he made when it was his “time”. Instead he begrudges the sucess of Barack, who’s time it now is.
isn’t it REVERAND JESSE JACKSON, you supposed to be for the Lord and shit(shit and lord in the same sentence, not good)and you want to cut Baracks family jewels off??? You such a hater cause you couldn’t make to the white house, You really gon shit when BARACK is president…..BARACK FOR PRESIDENT!! Oh and Jesse………THESE NUTS!!
Just one line is all I have. Jesse Jackson is very ignorant period! Stop hating, stay at home or go find a church to preach in!!! Who’s REV are you any ways. Are you paying child support and why is your wife still with you!!!!
VOTE OBAMA!!!! Young black people let your voice be heard. We are all somebody.
@ MEAT, half is already half the victory. And the other half cannot be solved without a better mindset anyway. Strategy means nothing without an effective mindset (obviously). You can’t fix sh*t with a “victim” mind frame (obviously), too many of US have. If you’ve been a fiend for 10 years and there are 25 factors that led you to this path, maybe you didn’t even willingly put that coke in your veins, but if you wanna get cured, altho factors can’t be denied, solutions and mindset and actions matter more, admitting you got a problem matters MOST. I’m not even “defending” anything, i’m merely exposing my father’s experience to tell black ppl it’s not over til we think so. I know our problems too well, I have some f*cked up relatives who refuse help cos they don’t want to help themselves, I know black men’s situation and struggles, and I’ve seen my dad’s, at least half of it, I never said EVERYTHING happened overnight and he was 100% fixed when he married mom and had us. I’ve witnessed something you seem to take for a “fairy tale” and I’m sorry you see it that way. I wish you could talk with my dad, maybe he’d tell you about change and possibilities better than I do, especially coming from where he’s from.
maybe jesse needs to suck obamas nuts…. instead of cutting them off ..hater.lol
It’s apparent to me that this was all staged and planned. Being the attention seeker that he is, Jesse wanted everyone to hear his views on Barack and what better way to do it than to team up with Fox news (the extreme right wing, racist, propagandist news outlet).
It was an agreement between the station and Rev Jesse Jackson. FOX wanted to tear Obama apart and in the process help Jackson get his views on Obama out to the nation. A Quid Pro Quo if you will.
FOX likes to let ignorant African Americans use their station as a platform to display the hate and disorganization within the Black community. This is yet another example of that.
I SINCERELY HOPE YOU ALL SEE THIS
@ 175 M-LEW, thank YOU for the love! These stories aren’t unique.
“Some people thought it was unrealistic living like the Huxtables but I beg to differ. There are still some families who beleive in eating dinner as a family at least 4 times a week, being involved in their childrens life and not taking family for granted. The problem is we need more families like these.”
Exactly, the problem is, to quote krs-1, we don’t “PUT OURSELVES in the picture”. I’ve heard the same thing about the Fresh Prince. When you have someone thinking “how can I become a Huxtable or a Banks” instead of “black people don’t live like this”, you end up being a drug-dealer-turned-judge Judge Mathis or a thug-turned-entrepreneur Steve Harvey. It’s a hard and long path, not easy at all, it starts with a different mindset. That’s all i’m saying. Let’s give ourselves more credit than that. If you don’t see yourself successful, it will never happen. Many aren’t aware of that unfortunately.
181#-AFRICAN PRINCESS-first of all, please get out your feelings! I came at you cause I thought that was a senseless thing to say about someone who has had their child murdered. I am far from slow or retarded! LOL! Here is exactly what you said, all I did was copy and paste: “Cosby is nothing but a old school womanizer hypocritically trying to preach to black people.Bitter because his son was killed and now he angrily takes it out on poor helpless blacks.”
Readers, she calls herself an “AFRICAN PRINCESS” then says a man is bitter cause his son got murdered????? How Has Bill Cosby taken is anger out on “poor, helpless” black people? That dude spat the truth and it irritated you probaly cause you have to visit Ray Ray every other Saturday or you in line for your WIC voucher! I know the truth hurts! Its cool and all luv boo boo! Stay out your feeling though when you post things. MUAH!
i dont think jesse should apologize

What kind of “Reverend” talks like that? SMH, he needs to remove “Reverend” from his name ASAP!
Jesse Jackson is a hater!!! Typical old head hating on younger heads.
Jesse and Al Sharpton are so jealous. Obama is ready to change the world, not just America. They can’t stand it..lol
If you really think about it, what JJ said is a blessing to Obama because the public will see the difference between them now, instead of making them look similar. Obama is one of kind and Jesse just proved that.
Janice #106 said: When Jessie Jackson, Al sharpton, and Shirley Chishom ran for President, it was for show. Neither really wanted to win. Thats fact.
….
If their historic bids for President was just for “show,” Obama is definitely benifitting from it. We should never forget that it takes the blood, sweat and tears of one generation to make it EASIER, not easy, for the next one. Even Barack knows that. And lets not forget how Blacks AND Whites were ready to back Colin Powell if he were to run for President. Which leads me to the belief that it’s easier for blacks that have the complexion of a Powell or Obama to actually go the furthest for such a bid in America.
Jesse needs to give it up, his time has passed. He’s just a jealous ol’ has-been, who needs to go play with the grandkids.
P.S. : I think I read “defending your situation” instead of “defending your position”…….or something……..but I didn’t read “defend your position”……..that’s why I replied “I wasn’t defending anything”……….my mistake LOL.
Some rev. Why is it that people that claim to be so holy and heaven bound are always the first to judge a person and their beliefs? This is not the first time Jackson has said some ignorant sh*t(excuse my language) to or about a person. He should read the bible again and memorize that saying “he who casts the first stone….”
Just because Jesse Jackson is black doesn’t mean he has to support Obama. Being an African American women call me crazy but I still want Hillary to win.
Seems I was totally appalled when I heard this news, and then I realized how Rev. Jesse Jackson is a strategizer do he actually make those comments to separate himself from Obamma? Jackson has always been known to be for Black Power, he is non-other than a radical!!! Jesse Jackson knows without a doubt that his was talking singling out black people in his speech, he was referring to people in general. Jesse has made negative comments about White Americans, Jews, and who knows who else, with that said, in my eyes those comments made people look at our BLACK nominee as a man not a man of color.
Nuadenda, I think you’re right on poit about that color thing (and I would know because I’m lightskinned). In fact, I’ll take it a step further and say that one reason white folks are so supporitve of Obama is because he’s half white, but this is the story no one, black or white, wants to talk about.
I have to raise the b.s. flag on all you guys that are claiming that barack is in his position because he is half white or has a lighter skin tone. are you kidding me?!? that’s is the most ignorant statement i’ve ever heard. your claims have no merit.
@ Yeah Okay, you are speaking the truth esp. in your # 188 post. You’re saying what my husband and I have talked about on numerous occasions; “It starts at home”. but its a shame that what you are saying isn’t gonna make a difference (no disrespect to you) because there are already too many that are lost. Unfortunately for some there’s no turning back because this same misguidance is passed down to the next generation. As for Jesse Jackson, i think that his leadership to a certain extent perpetuate that, that’s why I’m not one of his supporters.
Let me clarify my statement about Jesse Jackson. I think that he perpetuate the idea that “the man” is holding back the african-american community. for that i’m not a supporter of his.
@ #201,
Truly you must be uneducated and beyond the poverty level to say something as asinine as that.
Girl STOP
If anyone else is in a position to talk about irresponsible fathers it is Barack. The man speak from personal experience. I hope Barack keeps putting all deadbeat dads on blast. (Rev.) Jackson is dead wrong for the comments he made. What is it with this Boomer generation, are they so afraid to let the younger generation take over?
this is sooooo crazy

GO SUCK AL SHARPTON’S DICK!
BARACK KEEP DOING YO THANG! Go hard on em’!
Jesse is a hero for speaking the truth.
You would think he would know better than that, anfter spending decades on national tv
yeah okay, m-lew, and Mrs. PT—
Good morning ladies! Breaking the cycle of “misguidance” takes more than a Father’s Day sermon from Obama and a “standup” comedy rountine from Cosby. As long as there is discrimination…there will be tokens.
yeah okay, you kinda proved my point when you misread my statement. I respect you for catching your own mistake and for having the courage to admit it. You have a unique quality. Speaking of “unique”…I see all blessing from God as unique. Even Obama has been uniquely blessed by God to become the presumptive nominee for the Democratic party. The can be said for your and m-lew’s fathers. There journeys are special. God has blessings with each of our names on them. That was my point.
And, to Mrs. Pt…I don’t believe Jesse is saying that “the Man” is holding back black men. Although, he does want Obama and Cosby to be sensitive about what they say, because pointing the finger at black fathers who don’t take responsitility for their children, sends a message that they can all find jobs, and they can support their own, and the government should not be helping single black moms, and the deadbeats should go back to school. Don’t forget, at one time, “the Man” did hold back the black community. Littttterally! And trust me, there’s still some “holding back” on the DL.
Focusing…!
@ # 153 JUDAH:
(1) You are jealous of African Men in a really effeminate way
(2) You feel thretened by black women
(3) All your corny rhetoric can never mask your insecurities
LMAO @ #165 AFRICAN PRINCESS… tell us how you really feel
I saw many hot video at a black bbw dating site called blackbbwmeet.com. You can even check out more sexy and beautiful photos, videos and blogs there.
Wow…Obama is running for president. However my brother told me he saw he and his lover’s photo at a black dating site called ………………………Blackcentury.com……………………………… I have seen their photos, blogs there…maybe you should have a look
I agree with my mother who says that Jesse doesn’t count. He needs to return under the rock he was hiding under. He’s not relevant, and he’s only sorry he got caught. However whatever he has to say doesn’t count because we know his history and so do we!
did anyone offer to cut his balls when he committed adultery??
