Jesse is jealous of Obama because he has made it to the actual nomination and he will be the next president. It is truly sad Jesse could have pulled Obama to the side or met with him in private to discuss how he felt. I am so sick of people apologizing because they get caught. And is Jesse Jackson even relevant anymore? Barack is not a “black folks” candidate and if he makes the rest of country think he is, he can forget the Presidency. As Black people, we all have “take on for the team” at times in order to get where you need to be. Why alienate white people and never get the opportunity to lead? Barack knows he’s black, and he doesn’t have to ignore subject-verb agreement to prove it. He is a Harvard educated attorney and does not need to dumb down his campaign so that we can understand. What kind of implication is that to make anyway? Why do Black people question if he’s black enough anyway? He doesn’t have to be a high school drop out with 3 baby mamas to be black. I appreciate what he’s doing for the image of Black men in America and I’m so proud of him, I pray he wins in November because the policies he plans to put forth will benefit ALL Americans, because in the long run, we are all in thsi together. Black people need to stop being so hateful too. We recognize that racism is real and that there is a battle going on, but who is going to put their gun down first? To DO: Its not necessarily blasphemy but one might think that its the age-old expression of Black Americans being “crabs in a barrel”. Barack Obama is the presumptive nominee of a major political party and therefore breeds jealousy among so called prominent Blacks. It is the Willie Lynch syndrome, crab in a barrel mentally or whatever other cliché you might want to use. But the fact of the matter is Jesse Jackson is jealous of Barack because he sees Barack as someone who is doing something he couldn’t do when he ran for president. Jesse’s problem is that he feels Barack was talking down to Black people when he gave that speech on Fathers Day about the fathers’ role in the family; dead beat dads and all that. It rubbed Jesse the wrong way because Jesse is also guilty of playing down to stereotypes of the Black men…married and yet fathered children with other women and not supporting them. It has to be hard to accept that your legacy is reduced to this. Never mind the slight on Barack - but Jesse is supposed to be a Reverend, and minister of the word. Even if as you say you felt he was “talking down to Black folk” - why not do the manly thing, the adult thing, the christian thing, and call the brother up and let him know how you feel? No you sitting around talking behind his back about what you want to do - like most cowards.

This is a shame, esp. because I think he did it on purpose just to try and get in the mix only to find out that he is so out of touch and no longer relevant that most people have already dismissed it.

The worst part is that his own son, who didn’t publicly denounce him for cheating on his Mom and having a separate family; has now publicly denounced his father’s comments and his character.

Al and Jessie are opportunist. They can care less about the “plight of black people”. They have NEVER been leaders in my eyes. If anything, they have been more a problem than solution. I don’t speak politics. But Obama has done more for the black people just by running than Jessie and Al together with all their ranting, the past 25 years. I have been seen Jessie’s true colors. Now everyone else will too. Keep hope alive was Jessie’s moto when he was running, how has that changed since he lost? Do we not still need hope? Obama is giving us that hope back. And not only because he is black. He has little kids black,mixed and female believe they too can run for president. Not just run for president, but that their voice can be heard. Giving someone hope is the biggest thing you do for anyone.

One more thing…if Barack’s call on black males to step up and support their families hurt some feelings - too bad. He was certainly correct and its still true that the truth hurts. Perhaps Jesse felt the sting of Barack’s comments because of his own selfish indiscretions?? Perhaps…

This issue is very revealing concerning the nature of the people that are set up to appear as black leaders in America. There’s nothing but jealousy pervading the entire “black leadership” construct and they’re doing nothing but fighting over scraps and camera time. What Jesse Jackson said about Obama is the truth, he does talk down to black people, and furthermore the things that Obama says are shallow and show no understanding of how things will get done as opposed to what he says should get done. But then again shallow rhetoric appeals to shallow people. The only reason why Jackson is saying these things, which are true, is because he wants the crossover appeal that Obama has been able to generate because without watering down the jargon and appealing to white people, no “black leader” will be given the spotlight. Jackson understands that Obama; as an African, is not black and he cares not at all for the black people of America. The funny thing is that had Jackson had the international appeal that Obama has, and had he been deemed worthy enough to be chosen, he’d read off the same script that Obama is reading off with no problem.

I am in no way defending Jesse’s comment

But I do have to wonder if maybe…MAYBE…the basis of Jesse’s comment wasn’t really that off. I mean Barack’s comment about black men not taking responsibility does seem a bit patronizing. Illegitimacy and lack of fathers isn’t just a “black community” problem, all races have to deal with this as well.

But I was upset about the whole cutting off the nuts comment. That was a bit extreme.

Jesse Jackson was jealous of Martin Luther King back then. He just mad because Obama getting all this attention from the white people and Dr King was getting alot of attention too. I actually watched FOX news (The O Reilly Factor & Keith Olberman show) just to see the comments scroll across the screen.

I was completely outraged by what Jackson said. Going along with majority of the posts, Jessie’s just mad he got caught. What he said just proves how he really feels about Obama and the bitterness he exhibits for his own bid and presidential failure.

I wonder how Dr. King would feel to hear Jessie speak with such crudeness.
Barack is head strong and doesn’t need some two-faced democrat in his corner.

Jesse and other like him need to stop this “crabs in a barrel” nonsense. How can Jesse attack Obama for trying to uplift the race of his people? I’ve heard some crap from some of these so-called black leaders before, but this one took the cake and the whole dessert tray. Jesse needs to step aside…a real leader has emerged! I hear you. But it’s also patronizing because Barack is basically stating the obvious. And as someone who is the presumptive Democratic nominee his concern shouldn’t primarily be the black community. As I said before, I ain’t defending Jesse by any means but he does have a point.

Jesse Jackson’s comments about Barack Obama is not helping the plight of African Americans. Unlike, Jackson Obama understand’s that certain issue’s have to be addressed and that the way to improve conditions in the African American community is by action, not just about trying to make everything a race issue. Barack was at a predominately black church when he gave the Father’s Day speech, thus he was talking to black people (did anyone read or hear the whole speech he gave?) He also gave men props who take full care of their children. If his audience were women, he would be addressing his core audience . He wouldn’t be talking to men, would he? What he said on that day was totally appropriate the ones that his speech didn’t pertain to didn’t get insulted. The ones that got mad are the ones that needed to hear it.

ok History Lesson, Martin Luther King died because some white man decided to end his life. El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz ( who you people refer to as Malcolm X) died because he changed his views to that which is more in line with Dr King. And one can not say what someone would or would not support. It wouls suprise all of you to know that Rosa Parks and the NCAAP did not start what we know as the civil right movment. The Freedom Riders did. read you history. Dwight Eisenhower adminstation ( not John Kennedy ) started to progessively intergrate America. Dr King was not a strong supporter of Kennedy in his early stages as President. Mostly because it took so long for Ole John to get around to some of the things he said he was going to do for the black people who helped him get elected( boy that history and repeat go hand and hand) To make a long lesson short, Saying those two leaders died so Obama could be in a position is a little extreme when you think about it. Whoever wants to talk about “black issues” can talk about them. Talking about “black issues” or any issues in general has nothing to do with someone sincerely wanting to reSOLVE the issue as opposed to using it to parlay himself into an advantageous position. You can air out all the dirty laundry that you want. It matters not if you don’t know how to clean them. Honestly sis, you’re frustrated because you’re trying to solve a divine issue with man’s thoughts, premises, and ideas so that you can partake in this vain unity amongst all races. It will not work. For example much is made of Obama telling these untrained, effeminized young black men to “raise their kids”. Is that his process of resolution? Is he going to end the wars in the Middle East by telling the white jews and Arabs, “Ya’ll need to stop fighting.”? If you are not addressing the cause of the psychoses and the reason behind the problem, but you still insist on addressing it, you are only doing so for vain purposes.

As far as who will produce change, the Most High and Christ have been producing change, are producing change, and will continue to produce change. You are not supposed to put your spirit into a man. If you don’t want to “pontificate” about the scriptures than that means that you must have a better plan than what the scriptures entail. You do not. The Bible tells us that in the last days the people would be in great confusion, which you admit to having (Isaiah 60:1,2). Anyone that “interprets” the Bible is “interpreting” it because they are too lazy to read it and do the corresponding research (II Pet 1:20). Anyone that differentiates between the Old Testament and the New Testament has no understanding whatsoever and does not see or know Christ at all because Moses and Christ spoke the same message (Luke 16:31, John 5:45-47, Rev 15:3).

The debate or dispute is not the package of the change, it’s whether he sincerely means to produce change. No one is proud of the negative stats in black communities, but don’t assume that theres a single cause for the high rate of absent father households. Sure, some of it is because of black men who don’t take personal responsibility, but some of it is like Jesse says…”lack or opportunity to raise a family” and some of it is…in other cultures, the girls get abortions, and still some of it is due to the promiscuity of the culture or ignorance to plan parenting. There’s even the possibility that rape distorts the numbers. Certaintly, a large number of black teenage girls are getting pregnant by older men.

@ MEAT……there are different factors, I’m not disputing that because I’m aware that things aren’t so simple, I totally hear what you’re saying, but nobody’s gonna help us if we don’t help ourselves. There is a system, but people who think “The Man” is God, which seems to be the mentality of most blacks, are lost.

My dad grew up extremely poor, no shoes to wear at times, nothing to eat at times, facing harsh racism, in a very very unstable home. He got an education, met and married my mom, is in a high position at a big BIG company that I won’t name, took care of all of us, he had it harder than us young black folks today but he made it. NEVER blamed “the man” and always told us he didn’t wanna hear ANYONE blame ANYBODY in his house, regardless of the SYSTEM. I was taught that “The Man” isn’t God. Did he perpetrate the things he saw around him and in his home? No, instead he broke the cycle and did the right thing, many of his friends didn’t because they blaaaamed so and so all day long and did nothing. They hated it when my father made a difference. They didn’t take care of kids, and screwed up opportunities (and YES they had a few). He lost friends because he wanted better for himself. Black people said he was”acting white” because he was educated.

Somehow we have to make the conscious decision to break the cycle instead of always giving a list of excuses, because at this point they are excuses, why? Because we’ve ALWAYS known these things. What are we gonna DO about it? Black folks don’t even WANNA HEAR about it.You can’t cure a fiend if that fiend doesn’t wanna get cured. Can’t get the crack outta his system. Why must we apologize for asking Barack, “how can you assist in making our community better?” Now, I know that Obama is not a savior and when he gets into office, he can’t fix our problems. That’s an individual choice, but how come we black folks are somehow afraid to ask about our issues. It’s as though we feel we are not worthy. Women question a politician on abortion rights and other issues pertaining to women. Gays want to know what their take is on same-sex marriages and other issues pertaining to their plight. If their historic bids for President was just for “show,” Obama is definitely benifitting from it.
