POLITICS/NEWS: BARACK & HILARY in NYC / JESSE JACKSON APOLOGIZES

Thursday, July 10, 2008

bhil.jpg

Democratic presidential candidate, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., is joined by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., during a campaign stop in New York, Thursday.

Going after the women’s vote, Obama chastised Republican John McCain on Thursday over his opposition to an equal-pay Senate bill, his support for conservative-leaning Supreme Court justices and his abortion-rights objections.

“I will never back down in defending a woman’s right to choose,” the likely Democratic nominee said, drawing a sharp contrast with his GOP rival.

JESSE JACKSON APOLOGIZES

jjackson.gif Rev. Jesse Jackson speaks during a news conference in Chicago, Wednesday, July 9, 2008. Jackson apologized Wednesday for comments he made about Barack Obama’s speeches in black churches during what he thought was a private conversation with a reporter.

Jackson set off an uproar for saying he wanted to cut off Obama’s testicles for talking down to Black Americans.

Jackson hurried to apologize to the Democratic presidential candidate, apparently after learning that Fox News had recorded the remark was going to air it on Wednesday.

“I said something I felt regret for — it was crude,” Jackson told CNN.

Jackson said he was “very distressed” that his remarks have became public because he said he is deeply supportive of Obama’s White House bid.

It happened, he said, when a fellow guest on a Fox News show last Sunday asked Jackson about Obama’s speeches at Black churches.

“I said it can come off as speaking down to black people,” said Jackson, recounting his remarks. “The moral message must be a much broader message. What we need really is racial justice and urban policy and jobs and healthcare.”

While Obama accepted the apology through a spokesman, his own son, Jesse Jackson Jr. publicly condemned him.

“I’m deeply outraged and disappointed in Rev. Jackson’s reckless statements,” the younger Jackson said. “I thoroughly reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric.”

Rev. Jackson has a history of making critical statements about Obama. In November, he wrote an op-ed column in the Chicago Sun-Times that lambasted all of the presidential candidates, including Obama, because they “have virtually ignored the plight of African Americans in this country.”

Last September, the elder Jackson accused Obama of “acting like he’s white” for failing to take an aggressive role in denouncing the treatment of six black teens who were saddled with severe criminal charges for allegedly beating a white student in Jena, La.

I just moved my comment to this post

@vanity6
Jesse is jealous of Obama because he has made it to the actual nomination and he will be the next president. It is truly sad Jesse could have pulled Obama to the side or met with him in private to discuss how he felt. It’s like you know when you don’t like somebody and you wait until they leave to talk about them. Poor Jesse and he was being interviewed by FOX news of all channels he should have known to keep his mouth shut. SMDH

Rev. J. J. is jealous. It’s been apparent in his behavior during this entire campaign. It’s an ugly trait, but no surprise.

What he needs is for every one of us to tell him thank you for the sacrifices and inroads he has made for us.

He needs collective ass kissing and adoration for his contributions to “The Struggle”.

Perhaps then he’ll go sit his ass down somewhere and stop giving Republicans future ad material.

Just a damn shame that black leaders have to hate so hard on Barack! He can’t win the White House by only focusing on black rights, this is not 1950! Furthermore, he isn’t trying to be a black civil rights leader he is trying to be the PRESIDENT… Jesse jackson is just OLD and JEALOUS!

Stop being a crab in a barrel and lift this man up and what he believes in cause whether you agree with Mr. Obama or not what he said is the DAMN TRUTH.

I am so sick of people apologizing because they get caught. And is Jesse Jackson even relevant anymore? What has he accomplished recently other than making a mockery of himself as a minister and old man? Barack is not a “black folks” candidate and if he makes the rest of country think he is, he can forget the Presidency. As Black people, we all have “take on for the team” at times in order to get where you need to be. Why alienate white people and never get the opportunity to lead? Barack knows he’s black, and he doesn’t have to ignore subject-verb agreement to prove it. He is a Harvard educated attorney and does not need to dumb down his campaign so that we can understand. What kind of implication is that to make anyway? Why do Black people question if he’s black enough anyway? He doesn’t have to be a high school drop out with 3 baby mamas to be black. I appreciate what he’s doing for the image of Black men in America and I’m so proud of him, I pray he wins in November because the policies he plans to put forth will benefit ALL Americans, because in the long run, we are all in thsi together. Black people need to stop being so hateful too. We recognize that racism is real and that there is a battle going on, but who is going to put their gun down first? The last thing we need is washed-up, non-effective, fake ministers (I’m a Christian, BTW) trying to tear him down. Jesse needs to sit down!

I’m a bit confused CL? You stated that J. J. Jr. was a Repulican but then go on to say he’s (D. IL)–which is it?

Aside from that, I have to co-sign with a previous comment. Anytime that you have any affiliations with FOX News–their network period you know well aware of what/whom you’re dealing with or up against. He’s not sorry, just sorry he got caught! He’s busted anyway…..people lost faith in him when he fathered that child outside of his marriage! It totally has nothing to do with the current statement but I know that I’m not the only one thinking it.

Jesse done gone and added to the list of ignorant blacks that insist on trying to tear OBAMA down. What a stupid thing to say and in a position where the possiblityl of others over hearing was so great. You can see him mumbling to the guy next to him. And Jesse wants to represent us. No way is he in any way shape or form a representative of me and what I stand for.

Jesse is stupid, his comments, stupid. And he is sorry he got caught. He should have had his balls cut off when he fathered the “other” child. BTW, is he paying child suupport for that baby? That’s something he should be worrying about.

To DO: Its not necessarily blasphemy but one might think that its the age-old expression of Black Americans being “crabs in a barrel”. I honestly don’t think that Jesse Jackson cares too much for Obama despite his alleged support of him. I stongly feel that Black Americans are going to be chastised/criticized no matter what we do but for him to do make a statement/comment as such to a history-making opponent was not a good thing.

33.

Greg_Arious

Thursday, July 10, 2008 /

Its not a matter of not being able to criticize him its about the manner in which he did it and the basis of his criticism. Why did the REVEREND need to say he wants to cut off his nuts?

And who is he to question Obama speaking about Black men stepping up to the plate and taking care of their responsibilities? Thats not talking down to black folks thats the damn truth and it deserves to be spoken about. Especially to Jesse and his bastard child. To me Jesse Jackson is an opportunistic attention loving whore. And a jealous asshole as well. I dont like him or that silky smooth head Sharpton either.

Jesse Jackson is just hurt that he won’t be the first black President. Instead of reinventing himself by strongly supporting Obama he is making these kind of ridiculous remarks.

NO CONVERSATION WITH A REPORTER IS PRIVATE ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE ASKING ABOUT A BLACK MAN WHO IS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT.

Jesse Jackson is an idiot. He is mad that no one cares about him or his name anymore. It would have been smarter for him to speak positively of Obama and make public appearances with him so that he could possibly get some kind of position within the White House.

Obama ain’t dumb. He’ll accept the apology but he won’t forget that. And he shouldn’t.

See God don’t like Ugly, and thats why his mike was still on. Jessie’s true colors came out and he got straight busted. I agree, he is only sorry he got caught. Sounds to me a bit of bitterness towards Obama from Jackson. Correct me if i’m wrong, but didn’t he march with Dr. King representing non-violence then & now is talking about cutting off someones balls? WTH? Come on now Jesse..lol. Repent, then let it go. Wasn’t like Barak was lying in his speech about the high number of single mothers.

Barack Obama is the presumptive nominee of a major political party and therefore breeds jealousy among so called prominent Blacks. It is the Willie Lynch syndrome, crab in a barrel mentally or whatever other cliché you might want to use. But the fact of the matter is Jesse Jackson is jealous of Barack because he sees Barack as someone who is doing something he couldn’t do when he ran for president. Jesse’s problem is that he feels Barack was talking down to Black people when he gave that speech on Fathers Day about the fathers’ role in the family; dead beat dads and all that. It rubbed Jesse the wrong way because Jesse is also guilty of playing down to stereotypes of the Black men…married and yet fathered children with other women and not supporting them. Messy Jesse better watch out because we all know what happens to people who talks bad about Obama, they become pariahs in the Black community. Just ask that coon Bob Johnson.

It has to be hard to accept that your legacy is reduced to this. Never mind the slight on Barack - but Jesse is supposed to be a Reverend, and minister of the word. Even if as you say you felt he was “talking down to Black folk” - why not do the manly thing, the adult thing, the christian thing, and call the brother up and let him know how you feel? No you sitting around talking behind his back about what you want to do - like most cowards.

This is a shame, esp. because I think he did it on purpose just to try and get in the mix only to find out that he is so out of touch and no longer relevant that most people have already dismissed it.

The worst part is that his own son, who didn’t publicly denounce him for cheating on his Mom and having a separate family; has now publicly denounced his father’s comments and his character.

Somebody please get Rev. Jackson back to church.

@7 Lawrence - You speak the truth, with out that other BS. Straight with no chaser…lol. I agree with you 100% A co worker and myself were talking about this this morning. Al and Jessie are opportunist. They can care less about the “plight of black people”. They have NEVER been leaders in my eyes. If anything, they have been more a problem than solution. I don’t speak politics. But Obama has done more for the black people just by running than Jessie and Al together with all their ranting, the past 25 years. I have been seen Jessie’s true colors. Now everyone else will too. Keep hope alive was Jessie’s moto when he was running, how has that changed since he lost? Do we not still need hope? Obama is giving us that hope back. And not only because he is black. He has little kids black, mixed and female believe they too can run for president. Not just run for president, but that their voice can be heard. Giving someone hope is the biggest thing you do for anyone.

One more thing…if Barack’s call on black males to step up and support their families hurt some feelings - too bad. He was certainly correct and its still true that the truth hurts. Perhaps Jesse felt the sting of Barack’s comments because of his own selfish indiscretions?? Perhaps…

And this is very personal because you don’t go around talking about
castrating a man without it being personal. He is jealous and envious on a professional, political and personal level - he admitted himself that his son - his namesake, is very close to Barack - and some men can’t handle that, no matter how old they are.

Barack never cared nor wanted their support. They questioned wheather he was black enough. While I know they fight and have put up good fights for our civil rights both present and past but the mere association with JJ and Sharpton would have hindered Barack! I’m glad he stayed far away from all of it.. While I hope JJ and Sharpton continue the struggle for us they should all steer clear of the more then obvious now public hate for THE BARACK FAMILY!!!

I doubt JJ is regretful for what he said he is more regretful that he got caught being a two-faced ass! on a “hot mic”! The guy he said that two stayed poker-face during the comment!!

Also, he went to the interview on Fox five to discuss the election and he put himself in a negative spotlight. How will that affect his own supporters, his funding? You reap what you sow when the chickens come to roost!! hmmp His character has been damaged while trying to damage another brother!!

This issue is very revealing concerning the nature of the people that are set up to appear as black leaders in America. There’s nothing but jealousy pervading the entire “black leadership” construct and they’re doing nothing but fighting over scraps and camera time. What Jesse Jackson said about Obama is the truth, he does talk down to black people, and furthermore the things that Obama says are shallow and show no understanding of how things will get done as opposed to what he says should get done. But then again shallow rhetoric appeals to shallow people. The only reason why Jackson is saying these things, which are true, is because he wants the crossover appeal that Obama has been able to generate because without watering down the jargon and appealing to white people, no “black leader” will be given the spotlight. Jackson understands that Obama; as an African, is not black and he cares not at all for the black people of America. The funny thing is that had Jackson had the international appeal that Obama has, and had he been deemed worthy enough to be chosen, he’d read off the same script that Obama is reading off with no problem.

Illegitimacy and lack of fathers isn’t just a “black community” problem, all races have to deal with this as well.

But I was upset about the whole cutting off the nuts comment. That was a bit extreme.

Jesse ran for presidency himself so you would think he would be proud that we are close to having our first African American president. No, instead he gets on national TV and pretends that he doesn’t know his mic is still on and makes an ignorant comment. And then turn around and apologizes for it. Why are you sorry Jesse?!? Support Obama. And if you can’t support him at least be quiet and let Obama do his thing. Don’t disrespect him like that. Jesse is the prime example of “crabs in a barrel”.

I don’t care is 100,000 white kids are left without fathers because i feel with me being black that not one of our kids should be fatherless or motherless. We need black men to start talking to black men about what is going on good and bad in our community same as we need a strong black woman to teach these little girls (grown and young) how to be women.

#62 Judah —- Isn’t that what politics and government is about anyway shallow rhetoric? Which is why the Sharpton’s and the Jesse Jackson’s came about! So true or not why can’t the man with skin like mine get in on what white america has been doing it for centuries!!!

America is ready for a change so change has no color in this instance for some! It’s time for someone new and fresh and right now Barack in his black skin is that man!! YES WE CAN!!!

Politics is the one thing that will never change because you can’t really be a politician without making a promise that you won’t be able to keep!!!

It doesn’t matter wheather Barack is black american he is a black man by the color of his skin not the country he was born in or the parents he was born from! It’s about what the human eye sees.

If your skin is white because of bi-racial bonding (lol) and one parent is black you are asked to pick a side because your skin color causes confusion for the eye to see one thing and you to present another!! If you chose for instance the white side then people would holla that person is a fraud “they know they are black” blah blah!!

I agree with your last sentence about JJ reading off the same script…

It was like I’m all for a democrat being president and since its Obama, I dont have any other choice than to suppprt him.

What I’m saying is it doesn’t matter the color of the skin either way someone is reading off a script 99% not their own when it comes to politics . The political process wasn’t designed with me in mind Judah do you not get that?

I’m not stating that Barack is the one that will be this angel of light, but he is the one that pulled the rug from under the naysayers, the people who don’t want change, the good old boys… of course no one WANTS to be lied to but the political process would never change if the same people with the same system and the same pack of lies keep getting elected. A new pack of lies might offer another path toward change but it gives hope and JJ said it best “keep hope alive” …lol…

It’s politics the whole thing is a farce and not you nor I can change that.I’m not accepting black leadship reading from a script anymore then white that is forced upon America. It’s all green in the end so I can have my view and you can have yours and we can go at all day but the people that run the gov’t and the faces that have sat in those chairs some over 20years will be passed down for generations I’m sure Judah that isn’t changing. We can sprinkle a few ethnic faces in the mix and call it diverse if we like however, while you may not vote for rhetoric and shallowness you will live in it every day as long as government exists..

85.

JUDAH

Thursday, July 10, 2008 /

@83

I do understand that the political process was not designed with you or I in mind. Evidently you don’t get that though. Now if Obama is reading off of a script, how can you say that he has pulled any rug out from underneath anyone? Does that make sense to you? The purpose of a script is so that the people who are actually in power can fabricate entire environments and scenarios and thus engender the conclusion and resolution that they want and deem most beneficial to them, and not to anyone other than just them. In the midst of all that they have to package the vessel that they choose to use in as alluring a way as possible to keep the masses bemused. Honestly, your mindset is even worse than those who honestly believe in this man and his “Change” rhetoric. How can a “new pack of lies offer another path toward change”? Do you even consider the things that you think sis? Or why you think them? Why would new lies move toward positive change?

The point is that the so-called black leadership in America is a cesspool of corruption that is no more upright than the caucasian leadership. Jesse Jackson spoke his mind out of jealousy at the POSITION that Obama is in, not out of jealousy of Obama. Jesse knows how this system works and what it takes to be chosen by the people in power. He’s irate that after all the lies and misdirection that he’s been involved in to assist the people in power in keeping black people in darkness, that he will not get the glory. That’s what is it’s about with these negroes. The fame and the acceptance of white people.

#85 Because scripts can be re-written Judah it’s proved thru protests and laws being re-written because of protests because someone caused a ruckus. You re-write as you go along isn’t that how it’s done inpolitics until someone finds another clause or addendum to a clause that states different…

I think you dream in black and white and shades of grey…. I’m not trying to be right and I’m not saying you are wrong but in politics thats all you are going to get is new lies diverting your attention from an old lie or another pack of lies that is what makes sense to me. In politics you have to lie to get people to do what you want, to get what you want however, they call it favors which is the reality of it so yes that makes sense to me….

People have hopes and dreams it creates new energy that’s all we can have and yes that’s why it makes sense to me….

I used te pack of lies comment because that is what you understood from the originally response to my comment.

This is a perfect simile of “crabs in the barrell” and “eating our own” syndrome. Jessie is not the only one that has not been critical on Obama. For heaven sakes, he is half black and half white! He is going to have to appeal to both!!! When the Rev Wright situation comes up…he’s too militant, he’s too black, then when he leans towards his whiteness….he’s being too white!!!!

I am tired of him and Al Sharpton both trying to speak for black people. As most of our CL peeps and other’s have come to the conclusion that Jessie Jackson’s issues are most likely attributed to jealousy and the fact that he won’t be the first black nominee of the DNC/President. As other’s said, instead of getting behind Obama to show professional and historical leadership and sincerity, he could use his position to make sure Obama privately has African Americans/Black issues at heart, instead of making a “media whore” out himself for the sake of publicity. I am glad that JJ Jr. Spoke out against his father…If Dr. King were alive today, he would be ashamed of Jackson’s moral stance…..btw….Isn’t this the same Jessie Jackson who fathered a child out of wedlock while married? A black man (or half-black man if you want to look at it that way) can’t talk about the struggles and missteps of other Blacks but neither can White people. So exaclty who has the right to talk about “our” issues? Certainly not preachers and reverends because they’re just pulpit pimps and certainly not educated Blacks because they’re only doing so because they think they’re ‘better’ than regla Black folk. smh. I am really about sick of this whole “We shouldn’t air our dirty laundry” crap. NEWSFLASH: If your drawers weren’t dirty you wouldn’t have to worry about hiding them or preventing them from getting aired out.

For all of the people that think that Obama can’t produce change, tell me who can? And let’s not pontificate about what the Bible says because clearly everyone doesn’t follow the same Bible or interpret it the same way. And even those who follow the Bible can’t get on the same page because Old Testament folks think they know more than New Tetament folks. smh again.

Is it better to remain stagnant and stay with the status quo because change doesn’t come in the package you’d like for it to come in? I’m not even that big of an Obama supporter but I can’t for the life of me figure out why this man has been so crucified because of his color. Should he be darker? Should his hair be a little thicker. If he looked more like Pookie on the corner would that make him more relatable?

Jesse, like Al, is an opportunist who has become skillfiul in using the media to degrade unintelligent and uniformed Blacks under the guise of uplifting them. Jesse is jealous and it’s evident. It’s just sad that at a time when there are so few Blacks in office or in other prominent political positions, there can’t be some sort of solidarity. No, everyone will not fight for the same cause or settle on the same issues. But why implode? Why create divisiveness when there isn’t even strength in numbers as it is. This is just plain old sad.

No one minds that Jesse challenges Obama or any other black man on the issues. Being a black man does not exempt Obama other views. But, If Jesse would have only said, “he talks down to black people”, this would have been a none issue. “Cutting off his nuts” crossed the line. He went from converse to traverse!

To make it CLEAR I dis like Jessie Jackson and I am not a supporter of Obama. Both I believe will say anything or What is popular at the time to further their career. When Jessie Jackson, Al sharpton, and Shirley Chishom ran for President, it was for show. Neither really wanted to win. Thats fact. Obama is a Serious hopeful. Obama really wants to be the President, but not just for black people, or to change things( people who are not the president change things everyday) The black leaders of the community are seeing what a lot of black people will see the closer we get to November. Obama is for all people. Not just the African American. If he is elected( doubtful) he can not go out and say ” ok today for black people I want to do this” Simple not pulsible in this day in age when discrimantion is more likely based on economic class and not race. ( most often) Lets be clear and I have said this before. Obama cant Identify with the same issues as Jessie Jackson and his peers. These to men know each other and run in the same crowd. I like the fact Jessie was cool with all the bloggers during Jena 6 but now since he called out Obama on the issue ( same thing that happen to Bush and his not attending the 2004 NCAAP fun raiser). People have to understand that four years ago this Jena 6 would have been on the top of Obama’s list. You can get mad at the pot calling the kettle black, they know each other, it’s allowed.

First of all, I just think Jesse Jackson was personally offended by Obama’s Father’s Day remarks in Chicago, when he was talking about men, specifically black men, spreading their seed irresponsibly and not fathering their children. And, you know The Rev. Jackson has like 22 children, so he just takes it personal…

Obama wasn’t talking DOWN to black folks…he was talking TO us. aND, THOSE ARE THE REMARKS OUR COMMUNITY NEEDS TO HEAR. Folks like Jesse are the same damn black folks who got mad at Bill Cosby for his rants about the dire state of black americans. People need a reality check. Keep Preaching, Obama!!! Because, obviously, Jesse Jackson ain’t preaching it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Najee Ali tore into Jesse on another blog stating that J.J. was salty w/Obama b/c of the Father’s Day speech. Anyone offended by Obama’s speech must’ve been affected by it. J.J. is not taking care of the daughter he fathered outside his marriage. Someone else on the blog wrote, “They smile in your face (Jesse is SUPPOSEDLY an Obama supporter), all the time they want to take your place, the backstabbers, BACKSTABBERS! - The O’jays. So true, so true.

P.S. I know permed up Al is probably somewhere going, “Whew, I’m glad it wasn’t me!”

Barack was at a predominately black church when he gave the Father’s Day speech, thus he was talking to black people (did anyone read or hear the whole speech he gave?) He also gave men props who take full care of their children. If his audience were women, he would be addressing his core audience . He wouldn’t be talking to men, would he? What he said on that day was totally appropriate the ones that his speech didn’t pertain to didn’t get insulted. The ones that got mad are the ones that needed to hear it.

ok History Lesson, Martin Luther King died because some white man decided to end his life. El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz ( who you people refer to as Malcolm X) died because he changed his views to that which is more in line with Dr King. I know the education we recieved in school would allow us to believe he died yell by any mean necessary. Which is far from the truth. Most of his latter speaches speak of pease.
And one can not say what someone would or would not support. It wouls suprise all of you to know that Rosa Parks and the NCAAP did not start what we know as the civil right movment. The Freedom Riders did. read you history. Dwight Eisenhower adminstation ( not John Kennedy ) started to progessively intergrate America. Dr King was not a strong supporter of Kennedy in his early stages as President. Mostly because it took so long for Ole John to get around to some of the things he said he was going to do for the black people who helped him get elected( boy that history and repeat go hand and hand) To make a long lesson short, Saying those two leaders died so Obama could be in a position is a little extreme when you think about it. Alot of good people died during those times. and I’m sure that it had nothing to do with Obama runing for President.

Jesse Jackson has always been a mean spirited cowardly, small minded and petty person, going all the way back to the days when Martin Luther King was shot at that motel. When the gunshots rang out Jackson ran and hid.But when the press showed up he lied and said that King died in his brave arms.Jesse Jackson paid a huge price for those shady actions.Because black America never trusted him after that and the Democratic party never let him into their inner circle and treated him like an outsider. That`s the real reason behind his ignorant comments about Obama.Jesse Jackson is angry and resentful of how the Democratic party has treated Obama like the moral hero that he always desired and wanted to be and how they have accepted Obama into their inner circle with open arms and in the meantime treat him like a outsider because of his shady actions on the day of King`s assassination,Obama`s sermon aimed at the black community is just an excuse for Jackson to vent all the bottled up anger, rage and resentment that he has for failing to become the next M.L.King

Jesse sounds like he and Bob Johnson are brunching together. It’s ashame too. Barack is doing his thing in his own arena. He wasn’t coming to Rainbow Coalitions meetings trying to steer the agenda. He didn’t try and program the play log at BET.

He’s running for PRESIDENT of every citizen of the United States. Not just black people. My concern is that these two great (but sometimes foolish) black men fail to understand the significance of this election. Spike Lee said it best. ” They will have to judge time by before Obama and after Obama.” This is that significant. This will change the world. THE WORLD JESSE!!!! Fox news should be ashamed of themselves. FAIR and BALANCE. THis was all out effort to embarrass Barack Obama and his presidential bid. THIS WAS DONE ON PURPOSE by FOX NEWS. They should have taken the high road and never released those tapes. He was off the records and everyone knows that FOX and its so called conservative values, support Republican’s and their bids for office. THAT pathetic news show will do everything possible to allow McCAIN to win the presidential election. Black journalist should boycott that station and black democratic strategists should refused to commentate on Fox news shows. Jesse Jackson has a right to speak his mind; he has earned that right, less we forget what he has done for the AA community. It is okay for blacks to disagree for we are human. Surely, we will not support every decision Barack will make when he becomes president. You can bet your black ass*es that he will do what will be best for the majority and not just a black president. You people are in for a sad awakening if you think he will support all things black. Nope. for success he will first have to be an American and support all things American and not threatened the white status quo. However, we should vote Obama because our middle class standings will continue to falter at the hands of the rich majority if McCAin is elected.

@129, HELLO
You are doing exactly what they want from you. Instead of respecting Jesse Jackson as a black man, whose values and approach to correcting the problems in the black community differs from Barack, we want to be angry at Jesse because he dares to question Barack. If you think for one second that Jesse Jackson doesnt love the Black community, you are delusional. As a professional african american, we talk differently with our people when we are making a point than we would with other white professionals. Analogy: what a baller would say to another player would not be what he would say to the media. It would be wrong of the media, to put a microphone in a locker room and listen to a private conversation between teammates. That conversation was meant to be private. FOX WAS WRONG!!!!!
DIFFERENT POINT: Barack’s speech was equivalent to what Bill Cosby has said time and time again. Black folks need to be pulling themselves up by the boot strings, but Barack saying this is okay but Cosby’s message was not well received. Fox news deserved to take blame in their part of this. It was well constructed by them.

People blaming FOX is exactly what is wrong with black people. BLAME, BLAME, BLAME, BLAME and never take responsibility. WHO forced Jesse to talk about castrating Obama? NOBODY. This man is a hypocrit and that’s not FOX’s fault that he is. If he was so honest he would have never BEEN trapped in the first place. What makes it even more RIDICULOUS is that HE KNOWS good and well more than the average black folk that FOX isn’t “on our side”, so if there’s ONE place where he should have said this, it HAD to be on FOX! What a FOOL!

I had a conversation on the phone one day with an acquaintance that I appreciated, and during our conversation, she “innocently” asked me how I felt about so and so (2 guys I was cool with), and mind you the 2 guys she asked me about were in the room and were listening to the conversation cause she had put the loudspeaker on. HAD I BEEN A HYPOCRITE I would have talked shit about them, but because I’m honest I wasn’t “CAUGHT” or “TRAPPED” talking shit. No, I didn’t appreciate what they did, BUT the bottomline is if I had talked shit I wouldn’t blame them for it cause I wouldn’t have been forced to do it!

I’VE NEVER SEEN WHERE OBAMA HAS TALKED DOWN TO ANYONE, INSTEAD HE ADDRESSES ISSUES WITH TOPPING THEM WITH SUGAR AS MOST PEOPLE ARE USE TO…BLACK PEOPLE IN PARTICULAR HATE WHEN YOU POINT OUT THEIR ISSUES, WHY, CAUSE THEY ARE NOT WILLING OR READY TO EITHER RECOGNIZE THEM OR WORK ON THEM. THIS SAME TYPE OF REACTION IS WHAT BILL COSBY GOT WHEN HE SPOKE THE TRUTH, UNADULTERATED….INSTEAD OF LISTENING AND TAKING IT TO HEART, BLACK PEOPLE BECAME OFFENDED WHEN THESE VERY REAL ISSUES WERE PRESENTED TO THEM WITHOUT A SUGAR COATING. THE FACT IS, WE ALL KNOW WHAT ARE ISSUES ARE, AND WE AREN’T READY TO DEAL WITH THEM…IT’S MUCH EASIER TO CONTINUALLY BLAME OTHER PEOPLE AND OTHER RACES FOR SHIT WE CAN SIMPLY DEAL WITH, ERRADICATE, CORRECT, SET STRAIGHT, AND MAKE RIGHT OURSELVES…..WE REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OR OWN SOME OF OUR PROBLEMS….AND UNTIL THIS HAPPENS, WE WILL NOT MOVE, WE WILL STAY IN THIS VERY SAME SPOT FOR YEARS AND CENTURIES TO COME.

Seventy percent of black families are single parent homes without fathers as compared with 28% of white single parent families. Sure it isn’t just a black community problem but the statistics make it necessary for someone to drum up some awareness about the issue. As far as it being patronizing, how is it patronizing when the son of a black father who was abandoned speaks about an issue with which he has personal experience. @Ms. Mac

Whoever wants to talk about “black issues” can talk about them. Talking about “black issues” or any issues in general has nothing to do with someone sincerely wanting to reSOLVE the issue as opposed to using it to parlay himself into an advantageous position. You can air out all the dirty laundry that you want. It matters not if you don’t know how to clean them. Honestly sis, you’re frustrated because you’re trying to solve a divine issue with man’s thoughts, premises, and ideas so that you can partake in this vain unity amongst all races. It will not work. For example much is made of Obama telling these untrained, effeminized young black men to “raise their kids”. Is that his process of resolution? Is he going to end the wars in the Middle East by telling the white jews and Arabs, “Ya’ll need to stop fighting.”? If you are not addressing the cause of the psychoses and the reason behind the problem, but you still insist on addressing it, you are only doing so for vain purposes.

As far as who will produce change, the Most High and Christ have been producing change, are producing change, and will continue to produce change. You are not supposed to put your spirit into a man. If you don’t want to “pontificate” about the scriptures than that means that you must have a better plan than what the scriptures entail. You do not. The Bible tells us that in the last days the people would be in great confusion, which you admit to having (Isaiah 60:1,2). Anyone that “interprets” the Bible is “interpreting” it because they are too lazy to read it and do the corresponding research (II Pet 1:20). Anyone that differentiates between the Old Testament and the New Testament has no understanding whatsoever and does not see or know Christ at all because Moses and Christ spoke the same message (Luke 16:31, John 5:45-47, Rev 15:3).

The debate or dispute is not the package of the change, it’s whether he sincerely means to produce change. He is on record as saying that he will do what the white Israeli jews want him to do, which is continue and perpetuate the “War on Terror” if need be. This is diametrically opposed to any “change” that black people are alleging he will be the harbinger of. I haven’t seen him be crucified for his color. He’s been exalted as a so-called “new black man” and he’s being used by both the whites and many blacks as a false idol, false hope, and false Christ for black men that he cannot relate to and has no relation to. He will not stop the oncoming war with Iran and the subsequent event that will involve Russia as stipulated in Ezekiel 38th chapter.

There’s never strength in numbers if the doctrine is not strong sis. This is what black people that put their strength and pride in the American political system don’t understand and wont understand until it’s too late. These men snipe at each other because that is what they’re trained to do. If you throw one bone to 10 dogs, they will fight over the bone, they will not share it for the sake of the pack. That is the nature of a dog and that is why these false leaders are referred to as “dumb dogs” in the scriptures (Isaiah 56:10-12, Phil 3:2).
@105

You’re just all over the damn place, lol. The topic is about Jesse Jackson and you’re talking about africans, black women, and blacks and hispanics. You sound “unreal”. Let me ask you something duke, why are you studying my commentary and bringing up things that have nothing to do with the topic? Be a grown man or woman (or both) and state your issue so we can discuss it. If no one remembered what I said about blacks and hispanics, you can remind them because I’m sure you have it saved on your laptop or as your screensaver. I don’t know what it means to be “blacker” than anyone or anything else and neither do you. You could not expound on anything that you believe to be true, and if you tried, I would enjoy showing you how idiotic you are again and again. Now if you want to debate or dispute, I have no problem with that, but do it in order.

yeah okay said: “…70% y’all, yes all races have fatherless children, but the statistics for black people are horribly shocking.”

No one is proud of the negative stats in black communities, but don’t assume that theres a single cause for the high rate of absent father households. Sure, some of it is because of black men who don’t take personal responsibility, but some of it is like Jesse says…”lack or opportunity to raise a family” and some of it is…in other cultures, the girls get abortions, and still some of it is due to the promiscuity of the culture or ignorance to plan parenting. There’s even the possibility that rape distorts the numbers. Certaintly, a large number of black teenage girls are getting pregnant by older men.

I don’t want to point finger at any one reason, but lets not celebrate like we know the simple answer…cause there is no simple answer. And, Obama & Cosby have chosen to attack the issue from a “deflated brother level”.

In Africa, when a man is not able to provide for his children…the child dies. In America, the child ends up in jail, high school dropout, or emproverished. But, some how, most survive. If we are to thrive, we must address all the causes, not just the ones that we are good at. Obama is a good father. But, as hard as he may try, Michael Jackson mey never be a good father. Bill Cosby was an average father, like Jesse and Martin. All three had issues!

Developing…

It’s not “blasphemous” for him to speak against Barack, but he has been vocalizing his support for the man and his campaign; so wouldn’t that be two-faced to get on a TV interview in support of the man, and then turn around and say something so evil?

Some of you young people need to check yourselves. People like Jesse Jackson paved the way for Barak Obama to run for president in the first place. No, I don’t always agree with what he has to say, but who among us is ALWAYS perfect?

Last time I checked, it was Jackson, NOT Obama was stood with King in the 60’s, so let’s not forget those who fought to make sure an Obama could successfully run for president.

@155, who gets to decide who and what a good father is? You’re not the child of either King or Jackson and judging by how their children turned out, I’d say that these 2 are excellent fathers.

Get a few more birthdays, then check back in. ALL men (and women too) have issues!

Well, Jesse Jr. just condemned his excellent father. And, the King children are all locked up in a ulgy court battle against each other. So you’re right, fatherhood is relative. These children all knew or know of their father’s indiscretions. They turned out about normal…given the circumstance under which they were trained.

Yes, vote for Barack, but to believe that he will change the black community is delusional. To believe he will change the world is delusional. Obama’s message is simple: CHange in the black community will not come about unless we make the change. Opportunity is yours for the taking in this great state of USA. He will do what is best for middle America, so bandwagon blacks who cant stand for another black to speak bad about Obama be warned. Your time will come and Jesse’s comments will not seem so out of line. Young people, don’t be so quick to slash Jesse because it is the popular thing to do. Instead blame Fox News :) and that damn Bill O’Reilly.

Its funny how Bill Cosby’s name came into play in this. Bill did say most of the things that Obama is saying. The thing that I found ironic is that when Bill Cosby said it, everyone threw him under the bus. Why? The things Bill Cosby and Obama are saying have been said all along by hard working black folks all along (well some of them ex: that Dyson cat who can sit his ass down too). I do not know when we are gonna wake up and stop blaming Mr. White Folk for our problems. We all know racism still excist. Every black person experiences some form of racism every day of our lives, this is a given. Is it right, NO! I wish we lived in a world where this was not the case but this is real life and it is what it is. Are white folks on welfare, YES. Do white folks kill, YES. Do white folks steal, YES. But we cant be worried about THEM! The reason we are without is cause we are always looking over the fence at what somebody else is doing. We always “bout” to do something or “finna”. How many wealthy black people do you personally know? For that matter, how many rich black people do you know? Why not? We live in a time where if you aint riding clean or you not blinged up, you a lame. I never hate on what anyone has cause you never know how it was obtained. The missing chapter that alotta young blacks fail to see is the value of a dollar and what having work ethic really means. We want the nice homes and the nice cars but what does it take to get those things? Are you in school, have you ever stayed on a job more than 2 years? These are small questions we need to ask our youth to try and break this cycle.
I said all that to say how can you blame FOX news for airing that? They are in the business to get ratings and make money. We act like Jesse was in his house or the grocery store talking like that! The man was on set with a reporter and was talking that foolishness. He ought to know better. To sum this up, BLACK PEOPLE WE NEED TO GET IT TOGETHER AND ACCEPT SOME OF THE BLAME FOR OUR COMMUNITIES…..peace

You’re right!! Obama may not change the world, but a black president in America will confirm that the world has changed. If nothing else, his presidency will be a symbolic first like Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks and Jesse Jackson (when he freed the hostages). And, before you write Barack off, don’t forget we will have Michelle in the White House too. And, judging from the family interview, the girls are already learning how to tell him off about dropping his bag on their shoes and ish!

You know Michelle is gonna invite Oprah and Gayle nem to come and get drunk in the oval office like Jackie Onassis and Barbara Bush nem use to do. Gumbo and greens in the State Room.

Jackson,Sharpton,Obama and Cosby they can all get out my face, because these people are all so phoney and none of their hands are clean. They should all be locked in a cell. They have all traded their souls for money and are nothing but phoneys, fakes, political stans and slaves of corrupt corporations. It was corrupt corporations that bought Jackson with his ratlike whiskers his million dollar mansions in Chicago and D.C.,and Sharpton criticized corporations in the 2004 presidential campaign and said he would not take money from them and today he takes money from the very same companies that he criticized in 2004.Cosby is nothing but a old school womanizer hypocritically trying to preach to black people.Bitter because his son was killed and now he angrily takes it out on poor helpless blacks. And how many of John Kerry`s old speeches are going to come out of Obama`s big lips. The speeches are nothing but the agenda and criminal slang of corporations who rewarded Obama for his loyalty with a multimillion dollar book deal. Not bad for a guy who when he first came to Chicago from college he had holes in his shoes now Obama can sit back and count his loot with his buddy Jim Johnson, who use to work on Obama`s staff and is one of the biggest corporate thugs in the world. They are all going to be drinking Moet and smoking weed with the Devil as their soul burns slowly.

@ Aries…..thanks a lot for the support!

@ MEAT……there are different factors, I’m not disputing that because I’m aware that things aren’t so simple, I totally hear what you’re saying, but nobody’s gonna help us if we don’t help ourselves. I’ve heard far too many blacks refusing to bother doing better because “we’re bound to fail and be jailed because of the white man”. There is a system, but people who think “The Man” is God, which seems to be the mentality of most blacks, are lost.

My dad grew up extremely poor, no shoes to wear at times, nothing to eat at times, facing harsh racism, in a very very unstable home. He got an education, met and married my mom, is in a high position at a big BIG company that I won’t name, took care of all of us, he had it harder than us young black folks today but he made it. NEVER blamed “the man” and always told us he didn’t wanna hear ANYONE blame ANYBODY in his house, regardless of the SYSTEM. I was taught that “The Man” isn’t God. Did he perpetrate the things he saw around him and in his home? No, instead he broke the cycle and did the right thing, many of his friends didn’t because they blaaaamed so and so all day long and did nothing. They hated it when my father made a difference. They didn’t take care of kids, and screwed up opportunities (and YES they had a few). He lost friends because he wanted better for himself. Black people said he was”acting white” because he was educated.

Somehow we have to make the conscious decision to break the cycle instead of always giving a list of excuses, because at this point they are excuses, why? Because we’ve ALWAYS known these things. What are we gonna DO about it? Black folks don’t even WANNA HEAR about it.You can’t cure a fiend if that fiend doesn’t wanna get cured. Can’t get the crack outta his system. What Cosby and Obama said was commendable because even if the problems are a little more complicated than that, we have to start somewhere and they started somewhere. Blaming “the man” doesn’t seem to work, let’s try something else.

Hats off to you and your father! He sounds like a great man. You uped the stakes of this discussion when you coined the phrase, “The Man” isn’t God. You know, the Arabs aren’t God either, but they sholl did cut down on my low ridin’! “The Man” and Obama will have the voice to make decisions that effect jobs, health care and quality of live as we know it. That’s pretty awesome!

I won’t challenge your personal experience, but I’m sure that it was uniquely blessed by God for your father only. There are millions of factors that go into your father’s success. It’s never as simple as being poor and overcoming the man. For every “father yeah okay–”, there are hundreds of “father DuRays” who can’t get it together. Everybody can’t excel in school, but we can all do something. Problem is, most of the good, high paying “do something” jobs are reserved for the decendants of former slave owners. We’ve heard this debate before, so I won’t elaborate!

I’ll just say, the solutions is never as simple as people like Cosby want to make it seem.

@ MEAT, if we changed our mindset we’d solve half the problem. My father has no superpowers, all he had was faith and strong will. And nothing happened overnight. He just dared to see things differently while everyting was chaotic around him. Why do so many black men leave school, cause many are brainwashed into thinking it’s NOT for them/they’re bound to fail/it ain’t “black”. First thing to do, change the definition of what “being black” is. “The man” decides for many things but can’t control everything, “The man” is just that, a man. A man maybe hard to fight - it may take centuries - but never invincible. A system can be destroyed. But if you already lost in your mind, it’s over. The community is doomed if we think we lost. If “The man” didn’t stop my dad, or judge Mathis, or Bill Cosby, it should tell us something. None of them were exceptional to begin with and it’s nothing “unique”, it’s just not exposed enough to us. And “luck” happens to those who fight for it.

I agree with 173 too. My dad grew up in a single parent household in the hood and still managed to earn a degree, work for 35 yrs and is now retired. Not to mention be married to my mom for 36 years. Every doctor and every lawyer did not grow up in PleasantVille. It ought to be a personal goal to change whatever situation you are in to make it better. Bill Cosby painted a picture for us on the Cosby Show that will never be portrayed again on national television. Some people thought it was unrealistic living like the Huxtables but I beg to differ. There are still some families who beleive in eating dinner as a family at least 4 times a week, being involved in their childrens life and not taking family for granted. The problem is we need more families like these. People are saying Obama shouldn’t have had his children on TV doing that interview. Why not? Is it a crime for a black male to be seen on TV with his wife and children just because you are running to be the President of the United States of America. Knowone says anything about Bush’s crackhead daughters or any other of these rich white kids who stay in trouble. We need to support this brother cause he may be our only hope for some sort of change in this country. We dont have time for folks like Jesse Jackson to be on national TV talking the way he was about a man who is running for the same position he didnt win years ago. What we dont realize is white folks that were riding with Hiliary will vote for McCain just so a black man wont win. Now that is what I call loyalty, can we say the same for us?

This might be off topic, but I must address the phrase, “He’s not just the president of Black America.” Since we make up 12-13% of the population, this is a given. We know that, however, let me ask you all something. Why must we apologize for asking Barack, “how can you assist in making our community better?” Now, I know that Obama is not a savior and when he gets into office, he can’t fix our problems. That’s an individual choice, but how come we black folks are somehow afraid to ask about our issues. It’s as though we feel we are not worthy. Women question a politician on abortion rights and other issues pertaining to women. Gays want to know what their take is on same-sex marriages and other issues pertaining to their plight. Latinos want to know what their take is on illegal immigration, but somehow when it gets to us (blacks), we are afraid to say, “how can you help us with the various issues plaguing our communities?” Just saying.

@ MEAT, half is already half the victory. And the other half cannot be solved without a better mindset anyway. Strategy means nothing without an effective mindset (obviously). You can’t fix sh*t with a “victim” mind frame (obviously), too many of US have. If you’ve been a fiend for 10 years and there are 25 factors that led you to this path, maybe you didn’t even willingly put that coke in your veins, but if you wanna get cured, altho factors can’t be denied, solutions and mindset and actions matter more, admitting you got a problem matters MOST. I’m not even “defending” anything, i’m merely exposing my father’s experience to tell black ppl it’s not over til we think so. I know our problems too well, I have some f*cked up relatives who refuse help cos they don’t want to help themselves, I know black men’s situation and struggles, and I’ve seen my dad’s, at least half of it, I never said EVERYTHING happened overnight and he was 100% fixed when he married mom and had us. I’ve witnessed something you seem to take for a “fairy tale” and I’m sorry you see it that way. It’s apparent to me that this was all staged and planned. Being the attention seeker that he is, Jesse wanted everyone to hear his views on Barack and what better way to do it than to team up with Fox news (the extreme right wing, racist, propagandist news outlet).

It was an agreement between the station and Rev Jesse Jackson. FOX wanted to tear Obama apart and in the process help Jackson get his views on Obama out to the nation. A Quid Pro Quo if you will.

FOX likes to let ignorant African Americans use their station as a platform to display the hate and disorganization within the Black community. This is yet another example of that.

Exactly, the problem is, to quote krs-1, we don’t “PUT OURSELVES in the picture”. I’ve heard the same thing about the Fresh Prince. When you have someone thinking “how can I become a Huxtable or a Banks” instead of “black people don’t live like this”, you end up being a drug-dealer-turned-judge Judge Mathis or a thug-turned-entrepreneur Steve Harvey. It’s a hard and long path, not easy at all, it starts with a different mindset. That’s all i’m saying. Let’s give ourselves more credit than that. If you don’t see yourself successful, it will never happen. Many aren’t aware of that unfortunately.

If their historic bids for President was just for “show,” Obama is definitely benifitting from it. We should never forget that it takes the blood, sweat and tears of one generation to make it EASIER, not easy, for the next one. Even Barack knows that. And lets not forget how Blacks AND Whites were ready to back Colin Powell if he were to run for President. yeah okay, m-lew, and Mrs. PT—

Good morning ladies! Breaking the cycle of “misguidance” takes more than a Father’s Day sermon from Obama and a “standup” comedy rountine from Cosby. As long as there is discrimination…there will be tokens.

yeah okay, you kinda proved my point when you misread my statement. I respect you for catching your own mistake and for having the courage to admit it. You have a unique quality. Speaking of “unique”…I see all blessing from God as unique. Even Obama has been uniquely blessed by God to become the presumptive nominee for the Democratic party. The can be said for your and m-lew’s fathers. There journeys are special. God has blessings with each of our names on them. That was my point.

And, to Mrs. Pt…I don’t believe Jesse is saying that “the Man” is holding back black men. Although, he does want Obama and Cosby to be sensitive about what they say, because pointing the finger at black fathers who don’t take responsitility for their children, sends a message that they can all find jobs, and they can support their own, and the government should not be helping single black moms, and the deadbeats should go back to school. Don’t forget, at one time, “the Man” did hold back the black community. Littttterally! And trust me, there’s still some “holding back” on the DL.

Focusing…!

I agree with my mother who says that Jesse doesn’t count. He needs to return under the rock he was hiding under. He’s not relevant, and he’s only sorry he got caught. However whatever he has to say doesn’t count because we know his history and so do we!
