NEWS: NAS TO to deliver petitions to Fox News / CITIES CRACK DOWN ON SAGGING / JONES ASK FOR COMMUTED SENTENCE
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Rapper
Nas will join members of ColorOfChange.org & MoveOn.org on Wednesday to deliver 620,127 petition signatures demanding that FOX end its pattern of racist attacks against Black Americans including presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. The group will make the delivery Wednesday, July 23rd at FOX in Manhattan.
Over the last several weeks, FOX has had a string of incidents that many believe are a veiled attempt to prey on racism and intolerance and cast the Obamas as “outsiders”: an on-screen graphic referred to Mrs. Obama as “Obama’s baby mama,” a pundit “confused” Obama with Osama and then joked they should both be assassinated, and an anchor called a loving fist bump between Barack and Michelle a “terrorist fist jab.” In February, Bill O’Reilly talked about calling a “lynching party” to deal with Michelle.
Nas recently released a single and accompanying video entitled, “Sly Fox” to bring light to Fox’s unprofessional antics.
CITIES CRACK DOWN ON SAGGING

Various cities across the United States have been cracking down on youngsters who like to wear saggy pants.
Eugene Williams is the mayor of Lynwood (in South Chicago), says young men walk around town half-dressed, keeping major retailers and economic development away. He calls the new law a hot topic. The American Civil Liberties Union says the ordinance targets young men of color.
Young adults in the village, like 21-year-old Joe Klomes, say the new law infringes on their personal style. He says leaders should instead spend money on making the area look nicer.
In Flint, Michigan, Flint Police Chief David Dicks (pictured above) has said he will not back down from his policy of filing disorderly conduct or indecent exposure charges against those whose saggy pants allow too much underwear or their bottoms to show on city streets (view video).

In response, the American Civil Liberties Union’s Michigan chapter told the Free Press on Monday that it is now looking for targets of the policy to talk with the organization. The ACLU has called the city ordinance unconstitutional.
“We are confident that young men in Flint will contact us now that the chief has announced that he won’t budge,” Michael J. Steinberg, legal director of the state ACLU, said Monday. “If they do, we’ll sue. We may have the dubious distinction of being the first saggy pants lawsuit in the country.” [ READ MORE ]
Detroit and various cities in South Carolina are also jumping on the ‘no saggy pants’ bandwagon.
JONES ASK FOR COMMUTED SENTENCE
Disgraced Olympic track star Marion Jones has asked President Bush to commute her six-month prison sentence for lying to federal agents about her use of performance-enhancing drugs and a check-fraud scam.
Jones, a former Olympic gold medalist, was convicted in January of lying to federal agents investigating the use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs in track and field. She was sentenced to six months in prison and 400 hours of community service and began serving the sentence in Texas on March 7.
The Justice Department reviews all requests for pardons and commutations and makes recommendations to the president. A pardon removes a conviction from someone’s record, while a commutation only reduces or eliminates the person’s sentence, according to the Associated Press. It was not clear when Jones made the request, AP reported.
Jones, 32, has been stripped of her medals won at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Kudos to Nas for using his celbrity for a good cause. Fox news, no words for them. I won’t let their negative energy turn my positivity sour. They will get their’s soon. Karma is a mofo
Wow on the sagging pants thing. I personally don’t care for it, but they know they are infringing on people’s personal rights with this one. It will be interesting to see how far people will go with this issue. I’m sure this will get much press and many law suits, while important issues get tossed to the wind. Next…
I really do feel bad for Marion. I wish it hadn’t have had to come to this. I hope that from this issue springs some positivity. God does not put more on us than we can bear.
Great post as always CL.

We all know what comes with wearing saggin pants and what they represent. And it’s nothing nice. So it’s time someone did something about it. I don’t care about what other races are doing. But us blacks need to play our position. It takes a village remember… Too bad the law had to get involved.

If we focus on their $ source, they’ll pull out, leaving Fox dry and in deep shyt.
Regarding the saggy pants, its a ridiculous trend that only the impressionable “sheeple” follow. Making arrests on the basis of “style” is wrong though. It’s not like these fools who dress that way are exposing bare ass.

I respect Nas for taking action and demanding change, FOX is media and thus is protected under the Constitution, but when they went after Michelle , that was wrong because she’s not running for President, Obama is. But, everyone knows that FOX is controversial. Nas is correct, but shouldn’t he address the issues in the Black Community, you know the ones that Rappers endorse.
The no sagging pants policy is a good thing. When a person wear sagging pants, it means that they want to be known for something negative and not posititve. When a person respects themselves and their environment they will act and dress as such. And the ACLU needs to stay away from this, they protect any and everybody, no matter what. This is the same group that will protect the rights of child molestors. Also, why would the ACLU care about inner cities anyway, most of them are probably white surburban liberals, who really hav no idea about the dilemnas of the inner cities.

NAS: Two words - Sagging sales.
SAGGIN JEANS: Oh well, you bring that penitentiary mentality out to the streets and 5.0 is gonna call you on it. Whatever. It’s time grown-ass black men grew up and started dressing like serious adults anyway. To paraphrase what Gabrielle Union’s character said in Daddy’s Little Girls, any man above 25 rocking a du-rag, throwback jersey (unless you’re at a Saturday BBQ), saggin-ass jeans or still thumbing a Playstation EVERYDAY ain’t a good look.

#25 To justify your sagging pants and fining and jailing is wrong you attack sistas, blk women did not make the law but some of these dumb women will be standing behind self and sista hating negros like you, to defend blk men because of the law. Dont belittle the blk women and say they are the ones who need to be fined because basically when your jailed who will you be calling (mother, sister, aunt, girlfriend, etc.)
On another note fox and its number one Bill O’reilly has always said negative things regarding minorites so why today is the day you decide to do something about. things should have been done awhile ago. I mean come on everyone knows Fox is conservative so it should not be surprising when they bash liberals though they may take it to some extreme

THIS SAGGING THING IS MOTHERFUCKING RIDICULOUS…BECAUSE THEY KNOW ITS A EVOLUTIONALLY LEARNED BUT BLACK CULTURAL ADAPTATION FOR PEOPLE TO SAG THEIR PANTS…ITS GENERATIONAL.
AND I BELIEVE THT SHIT IS WRONG BECAUSE WHITE PPL CAN WALK OUTSIDE WITH WHATEVER THE HELL THEY WANT TO HAVE ON AND ITS NO PROBLEM, WHOS OPINION IS THAT IT IS INDECENT….? WHOS TO SAY YOUR CLOTHES HAVE TO FIT THE WAY SOMEONE ELSE WANTS THEM TO FIT?
IF THERE IS NO OVERT SEXUAL REPRESENTATION IN THE TREND THEN LEAVE THESE KIDS ALONE, YES ITS SOMETHING THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE DONT LIKE, BUT HELL THERES ALWAYS GONNA BE A GENERATIONAL DISCREPANCY. OLD PPL GONNA SAY OUR MUSIC AINT SHIT, WE GONNA SAY OLD PPL ARE OLD FASHIONED. THEY SAY OUR FASHION IS RIDICULOUS, WE SAY THEIR STYLE IS DATED. IF ONE IS WALKING ON THE ST WITH HIS ASS OUT, SO THE HELL WHAT…LET HIM DO WHAT HE WANTS. THERE IS A TIME AND PLACE FOR EVERYTHING - IF HE CANT GET THE DRIFT THAT IT IS INAPPROPRIATE FOR THE CORPORATE WORLD, THATS ONE THING…BUT IN A COMMUNITY, A CULTURE, HOW MOTHERFUCKING DARE YOU DEFINE WHAT IS “RIGHT”…..BECAUSE OPINION DOES NOT MATTER IN CULTURAL DEVICE!
FUCK AMERICA, YALL DONT KNOW HOW THEY HAVE HELD US BACK SO LONG. MOST PPL WILL JUST SIT BACK AND ALLOW AMERICA TO DICTATE TO THEM THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE BUT BEFORE YOU ACCEPT THE IDENTITY THEY GAVE YOU RECONNAISSANCE YOUR OWN!

@ number 17 how does an anchor calling Obama’s wife his baby mama reflect his negative side when the are married or “mistakenly” callling him a terrorist have anything to do with portraying all of his characteristics. Now certainly they are entitled to their opinions of the presidential candidates, but I would they would want to present factual information and not resort to public slander. sadistically, this is also their opinions of african americans as well.

————-After Nas delivers that petition to FOX, he should deliver Kelis to a detox

————-that rapper jumpoff, Ms. Info, in the video. You can see that her chink-ass
————-had no attachment with the sentiment that the two brothers were bringing
————-out. This is why I maintain that if black people think that hip-hop will bring
————-all races together, they are sadly mistaken. She could care less and it

I think they are cracking down because they were sneaking weapons into places in those big pants. What’s a shame is that the parents let this style get so out of control. I mean I literally see guys having to hold their pants up with their hands while walking down the street. That is just stupid.
I don’t think anyone should get locked up and get a record for baggy pants, but, they have to find a way for these young men to stop killing each other and innocent people also. If they are hiding weapons in those big pants then hey they should crack down. But I think if anyone is going to serve jail time it should be the people.

Bravo to Color of Change. This type of activism is what is needed (Jena 6 marches was a beautiful site to behold). The blaming “the white-man” shit is a joke, boots on the ground is the only way to go. I hope some of this activism looks inward as well. We’ve got a gang murder epidemic in most of our major cities. AIDS is killing our women, we are dropping-out of high school at an alarming rate, we need to help ourselves, and not project it onto othere races.

AND IF YOU NOTICE EVERYONE WHO AGREES WITH THE LAWS CREATED FOR SAGGING VOICES AN “OPINION” ON WHY ITS NOT A GOOD LOOK….
ONE PERSON SAID, THESE KIDS NEED TO START DRESSING LIKE SERIOUS ADULTS…
WTF? WHO ARE U TO TELL SOMEONE HOW THEY SHOULD DRESS, OR THAT DRESSING LIKE A “SERIOUS ADULT ” IS WHAT WILL GET THEM AHEAD IN WHAT THEY WANT TO DO? NO EVERYONE DOES NOT WANT TO FOLLOW THE CORPORATE WORLD STANDARD. I FEEL AS THOUGH WHEN YOU ARE REPRESENTING A WHOLE FOUNDATION (SUCH AS A COMPANY) THAT IS ONE THING TO RECONSIDER, BECAUSE YOU SIGN TO ADAPT THEIR POLICIES, BUT WALKING ON THE ST IS FREE, AND WHEN IF EVER IS ONE ABLE TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES THE WAY THEY CHOOSE IF SOMEONE IS DICTATING WHAT THE HELL THEY COULD WEAR?! I AM TOTALLY TOTALLY AGAINST THAT, BECAUSE UNLESS YOU ARE REALLY EXHIBITING A BEHAVIOR THAT CAN POTENTIALLY HARM SOMEONE BACK THE FUCK OFF! IF A GUY HAS HIS PENIS OUT, THAT IS A CLEAR SEXUAL OVERTURE…THAT CAN BE DETRIMENTAL, BUT BECAUSE HE CHOOSES TO SAG IS NOT A SEXUAL OVERTURE….ITS JUST AN “EYE SORE” TO !!SOME!!….
AND WHAT THE GUY WAS SAYING AT #25 WAS RIGHT, (THE EXAMPLE HE USED WAS MUCH ) BUT HE’S SAYING THE GOVERNMENT IS GIVING THEIR OPINION ON WHAT LOOKS GOOD AND WHAT DOES NOT, BASED ON A NON SEXUAL TREND….WHO ARE YOU HURTING TO SAY THAT YOU CAN SAG

Don’t really like sagging pants. But this is ridiculous for a number of reasons!
1. The saggy style is on it’s way out.
2. This amounts to racial profiling (Rockerfeller Laws, etc.)
3. This is a publicity stunt, not a substantive issue.
4. We were saggin’ back in the 90’s. Why now?
Fashion trends come & go. Let the community decide on their own. Let businesses, schools, churches, etc. decide what decorum they want. That will change attitudes. This law is a publicity stunt.

That sagging pants issue is downright offensive… and not in the way you think… wearing your trousers ludicrously low is a personal choice and is how people feel comfortable dressing, if a woman was wearing a low cut top showing her breasts, will they arrest her for that… or if she wears a short skirt where she hardly hides anything on a night out, will she be thrown in jail?!?! didnt think so… that could be considered lewd behaviour if this system wasn’t so STUPID
everybody talking about overcrowding in prisons and they want to put somebody in jail for something like this… the police need to do their job and catch some real criminals, like rapists, murderers, child molesters… the fashion police will catch the rest and put their pics up on the “Slippin” group on Facebook!!! Good for Nas, I do not support Fox news.
Personally, i hate the saggin’ pants like past the butt saggin’ pants where you can actually see their draws. They’ll have on their tee shirt, jeans, but the jeans are actually below their butts and u can see their WHOLE draws they have on. I have seen boxers, but one time dude had on some of those like boxer briefs ya’ll men wear and that was just soooooo ridiculous to me. The guy was so young and I know he did not leave the house like that, cuz i would of wacked my son across the head if I caught him wearing his pants like that! My question is this to anyone here in the comment section who wears their pants that way–why? Is below the butt a way u think girls will want you? Or am I way off? I just really would like to know why and why u think that look is appealing?

Out of all the crime, open cases, missing children, drugs, and so on that’s all they are worried about is “sagging pants”. Now Don’t get me wrong I don’t like to see a man with his Ass hanging out but it aint that deep for them to make a LAW about and waste TAXPAYERS money by putting them in jail. While this cop is stopping this dude cause his Drawers are showing a couple of blocks down somebody is getting shot or raped. Are they that bored? Don’t they have enough to do? II’m glad to see Nas doing his thing because FOX has always been blatantly racist, the other networks too. Their views are a perception of the black experience as if they know.
It’s unfortunate that the pencil pushers found another way to document and penalize the youth. It’s even more sad and unfortunate that our youth don’t realize that this fad is a suggestion —that you’re ready to be duked in the butt. ewww This trend started in prison with inmates being forced to expose themselves for ready-access. Prayer is needed. (also belts –hehehe)

Women on this site (some of them anyway) are hypocritical with the sagging pants thing. They won’t comment on guys that have their butts hanging out exposing their “male lingerie” but are quick to say men that wear fitted jeans are somehow gross or feminine. Ladies….please make up your minds, lol. As a man i’ve never understood the craze with sagging pants, especially since youngins don’t halfway wash their asses….but whatever.
It’s nice that Nas wants to expose Fox News for what he sees as an attempt to slander the black race as a whole, but wasn’t he the one who wanted to title his album Ni&&er as an attempt (in my eyes) to stir up controversy for his project until we petitioned his ass? How ironic is that? He needs to let someone else lead this brigade cause he’s not legit enough to bring serious commentary to the issue. Sorry Nasir.

I’m proud of what Nas is doing. It doesn’t even start with Obama they have been doing it for years which is why I don’t support Fox network.
As far as the sagging pants thing goes, it is disgusting that a law must be made to cover up what parents didn’t enforce. It is borderline of going as rights though. I’m sick of nthe saggy jeans especially when you’re surrounded with it everywhere you go. Both black and white boys thinks its cool to do and we can say look the other way but it’s sickening.
As far as Marion Jones go I think she should stick it out although I do think it is unfair that Mcguire, Sosa, and other baseball players have been exposed yet they are still on ballots as possible inductees to the hall of fame.

Fox is taking the freedom of speech for all it’s worth and then some. I’m glad to see people in the Hip-Hop community standing up for what’s right. Hopefully they can get something done at Fox because it’s just outright racisim. Nobody talks about Cindy McCain, so why is Michelle Obama being targeted. She is trying to raise women, black women at that, and at every turn she is criticized for every little thing she does. She beleives in her husband and supports what he does. More power to them, and they can bump fist all day.

Wow, I guess these various cities are crime free to be so worried about the way people choose to wear their pants…Get the fuck outta here. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.

Such bullshit and waste of money that needs more to be spent on more useful issues than some boy saggying. Yes sagging is really wack, ugly, and makes a boy looks plain foolish waddeling because he’s trying to keep his pants from falling; but no need to arrest him for it.
How can no sagging (or just changing the way people dress) make a citiy look nicer?? Explain that one, please. If u want to make the city look nicer maybe someone i mean just any fucking body should tell, Joe Kolmes, to use the money thats going towards the arrest to clean the damn city.
Its just another unneccessary task for bored cops to do.
but on the flip side. boys and Escpecialy the Grown ass Men that needs to grow up, do need to put the sagging to rest. Showing boxers is just old as hell.

Yoooo, sagging thing is not fair! My weight fluctuates, so I can’t keep buying new clothes/belts every couple weeks/months. This law is stupid! What are they going to do, administer belts now? This make absolutely no sense!

JUDAH

———–@55
———–Yes I am, of the tribe of Judah. All our people brought here are (Deut 28:68).
———–Let me ask you a question. Do you think that it justifies how one dresses if
———–it draws attention? What are you saying about yourself that you need to
———–dress provocatively to get someone to look at you (not saying you per se)?
———–If that’s the case, go naked. I gurantee you that men will look. It always
———–entertains me when sisters try to justify how they dress based on how it is
———–perceived by men and then they’ll next say that they dress “how they want”.
———–Well are you dressing how you want or dressing to attract men? If a man
———–decided to join a gang to attract women and started to wear rags in his back
———–pocket, that will also attract police and rival gang members. My point being
———–that when you lust for attention, you will have to accept the good with the
———–bad.
