POLITICAL ROUNDUP: MICHELLE IS STAYING HOME / WHAT ELSE JESSE SAID / MCCAIN AT NAACP CONVENTION
Friday, July 18, 2008

According to published reports, Michelle Obama will not be accompanying her husband, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, on his upcoming trips to Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel and Europe.
Additionally, she does not plan to deliver policy speeches during the presidential campaign nor will she have a policy role in the Obama administration. Instead, she’ll be raising their daughters, and three media stars will travel with her husband.
Katie Couric of CBS, Charles Gibson of ABC and Brian Williams of NBC will accompany Obama overseas. Obama’s first visit overseas since becoming the party’s presumptive nominee would be an opportunity for voters to see how he handles two of their major concerns: national security and foreign affairs.
Why all the attention? Paul Friedman, senior vice president of CBS News, said “This is Senator Obama’s first trip — his positions and the public’s perception of him on national security issues are important.”
WHAT ELSE JESSE SAID

Earlier this week on the Open Line show, which airs in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut markets, James Mtume announced that not only did Jesse Jackson say he wanted to cut off the testicles of Sen. Barack Obama, he also called the presidential hopeful a “ni**er and a half breed” and “f*ckin half breed ni**er”.
Mtume announced:
“Hey family, I got it on high authority, and the most respected source, that Jesse said a whole lot more than just the N (nuts) word. You know when Fox says that have more on them tapes. Well my sources say, that Jesse went off, and called Obama a Ni**er, he called Obama a no good half breed Nigger, and showed total discontent and animus toward Obama, amongst other things. Yeah it’s deep yall!”
Jackson has apologized and mentioned that “I said something I felt regret for — it was crude.”
MCCAIN AT NAACP CONVENTION

At the NAACP Convention on Wednesday, Sen. John McCain said that he will expand education opportunities through vouchers for low-income children to attend private school. He also praised Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama and his historic campaign, but added that he is wrong to oppose school vouchers for students in failing public schools.
McCain told the crowd, “Whatever the outcome in November, Sen. Obama has achieved a great thing, for himself and for his country, and I thank him for it. … Don’t tell him I said this, but he is an impressive fellow in many ways.”
McCain said vouchers and merit pay for teachers whose students perform well are two important ways to help kids in failing schools.
“After decades of hearing the same big promises from the public education establishment, and seeing the same poor results, it is surely time to shake off old ways and to demand new reforms,” he said. “That isn’t just my opinion. It is the conviction of parents in poor neighborhoods across this nation who want better lives for their children.”

Like D.L. Hughley said. . . “Jesse Jackson is just mad, because he realizes that if Obama wins the presidential race, Jesse Jackson will have to get a real job! . . .
Jesse Jackson should be ashamed of himself. . that’s what’s wrong with us (black people) always hatin’ instead of building each other up!
I’m soooo disgusted with J. Jackson. . .let Obama get his shine.. geez!

Am so over Jesse and his crap, why dont he just leave the man alone and find something useful to do, like taking care of his illegitimate kids. I strongly believe that we as black people can at times be our own worst enemies, just take a look at the mess that this so called reverend is creating! People need to recognize Jesse’s mess for what it really is the rantings of a jeallous man with a tainted legacy. Am glad that you guys at concreteloop continue to update us about whats going on political but please am begging you guys dont report about anything Jesse has to say again, I mean its just fueling the entire thing and we all know that what he has to say should be ethe least of Obama’s problems right now. Am so sick of this man.
On another note, am not even worried about Obama’s overseas trip he is going to prove once and for all that he as the best international policies and that he is the consumate diplomat that will get the Iraqi situation under control with apt analysis and honesty. Unlike Bush and trite McCain how seems to think that America as the right to stay in Iraq for 100 years. Not that he is going to live through the first 10 years of that 100. Please!!!!!
As for McCain and is NAACP appearance whatever! And as for him talking about Obama, that is just too random for me to even take him half seriously. Next!

I AM SO TIRED OF IT, HEARS A KICKER HIRER SOME BLACK PEOPLE WHO WILL HELP YOU IDENTIFY THE ISSUES WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY ITS NOT JUST EDUCATION AND POVERTY. SOME OF US ARE JUST LOOKING FOR THE SAME OPPORTUNITY TO DO WHAT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DO EVERYDAY, MAKE A HONEST LIVING FEED OUR FAMILY AND RETIRE WELL.

Is anyone slightly suspicious of these allegations/revelations about Jesse Jackson…It sounds all too suspect to me…is this man dumb enough to create not only political but social suicide by saying all these things…cutting of his nuts was bad…but all the expletives are a bit too far fetched to me…Additionally the fact that FOX news….yes FOX..I live in London and even I am aware of how much FOZ “loves” black folk…. have refused to release teh tape or the transcript….before you hang him I think more evidence than just the word of a close source/Fox representative is needed!

@ #14 I was kind of skeptic as well. I want to hear these tapes.
If he did infact say what they’re alleging than Jackson is a serious hypocrite because he was one of the main ones attacking NAS for the title of his song, and here you go actually using the word on national tv. Dumbass.
Is it just me or is the font on this post extra small and the numbers for each comment headed right as opposed to the left? Im just curious, my eyes are hurting.

I never had respect for Jesse Jackson to begin with, so this just solidifies my thoughts that he is a rambling idiot. He’s simply envious of Obama. I mean, no one wanted him as President, and when you look at him now…and the things that he’s saying about Obama, thank heavens he didn’t get far enough to do any damage. Hell, this man is supposed to be all “pro-black”, yet when we get the opportunity to have a black man, a well educated, well spoken black man who is about change in office, the real Jesse Jackson comes out. A jealous, hateful man. I think he’s done. I think he’s dug a hole he’ll never be able to climb out, and I’d surely never throw him a rope.

I’m really skeptical about those so called Jesse Jackson comments. The media has been known to create and stretch the truth a lot. Be very aware of who and where you get information from. These days, the truth is hard to find.

Jessie Jackson wanted a black president he just wanted someone that he could have taken the credit for getting them their. He didn’t want it too be Barak because he told Barak it wasn’t his turn to wait until 2016 it was Hilary’s turn. He are good friends with Hilary and we he couldn’t deliver the black vote he felt that he was loosing his so called power over a community he never had power over in the first place. He and others like him make their money from making black people constantly feel like they are victims while he and his crews go around and take up all the business and get all the corporate deals. Name one thing he has done for black communities. And, he does not like the fact that Barak is telling black people pull yourself up don’t wait for nobody to do it for you do it for yourself. And that cuts into Jessie profit.
The reality of it is Jessie knew that mic was on. He is just having a different kind of reaction that he thouoght he would get. He thought blacks were going to be like yea Jessie you right he is talking down too us and trying too act like he better than everybody,. You know how alot of black people responded to Bill Cosby when he said the exact same thing. But black people are not having it we are starting too realize the only person th at can hold us back are ourselves.

I’m not going to believe anything from Fox until I hear the tapes myself. BLACK PEOPLE, WE ARE DEALING WITH FOX NEWS!!!!!!!!!
There is nothing, they would like more than to see Black people turn on Jesse, Sharpton, etc…..people who have given them hell over the years. Jesse made some mistakes (although I believe Fox left his microphone on purposely), and he has apologized. Get over it. DROP THE OBAMA KOOL-AID and move on. The moment a high profile Black person says something that isn’t ABSOLUTE PRAISE of Obama, Black folk turn on them faster than a lion on a gazelle. Black folks as a whole, had nothing to say when he used the chastisement of Black men to try to garner votes from White Conservatives (Actually Michael Eric Dyson caught it, and wrote a piece about it in Time Magazine).
Obama is not the person he is pretending to be and I am going to be the first to say I told you so.

I think that is the best solution for right now with Michelle Obama, to decrease the risk of more criticism. The media is attacking Obama by getting at his wife because they know how much he loves her. Funny how they won’t provoke McCain or any of the others in the same way.

STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPP! Black folks, WAKE THE HELL UP! Your Blind support for Obama is eating our community alive and it is making me furious. My fears are coming true day by day. Don’t you people see they want nothing more than to have the black community turn on Jesse Jackson? They are trying to bring them down ONE BY ONE and black folks are eating it up. We are so drunk on Obama we are even believing and trusting FOX NEWS!!!!!
Concreteloop, please post a seperate follow up to this latest story and that Jesse calling Obama a half-breed etc., is a lie. Check out the headline from 2 days ago:
Fox News CEO Denies Jackson/Obama Rumors

Black People, support Obama if you like. Vote for him in November if you like, That is all good. But I sincerely ask that you shake yourselves out of this state, to at least be able to see a bit more clearly. Don’t let your support for Obama blind you to the things that are going on.

VelvetJ:
I’m not bothered by Jesse Jackson’s statements because they were critical of Obama. Jackson as well as any other Black person has every right to disagree with Obama on an issue or anything he says or does. The fact that Obama’s candidacy is historic doesn’t mean that he is above any criticism. However, if Jackson had any issues with what Obama was saying, he should have talked to Obama himself, he had easy access to speak with him because his son Jesse Jackson Jr. is national co-chair of Obama’s Presidential campaign. Going on Fox News of all places and then talking to a reporter when he “thought his mic was off” was a very big mistake. And to use the crude language that he did when referring to Obama and his statements was also a mistake and it was unnecessary.

And anyone who thinks that if Sen. Obama becomes President that all the problems of African Americans will go away is incredibly naive. We all know that racism, discrimination and injustice will still be problems in this country. However, that is not to say that Sen. Obama’s intentions for wanting to be President are not sincere, nor that he will do what he can to address issues concerning not only the Black community, but all Americans regardless of their racial background. I am Black, and I don’t want a Black president who will only serve Black Americans, I want a President who will serve all Americans.
