POLITICAL ROUNDUP: OBAMA IN AFGHANISTAN / RATHER CALLS OBAMA OSAMA / CLINTON EAGER TO CAMPAIGN
Monday, July 21, 2008

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Sunday as part of his week-long foreign tour.
Following their meeting, Obama told CBS News, “There’s starting to be a growing consensus that it’s time for us to withdraw some of our combat troops out of Iraq, deploy them here in Afghanistan, and I think we have to seize that opportunity. Now is the time for us to do it. I think the situation is getting urgent enough that we have got to start doing something now.”
Earlier Sunday, Obama also met and praised U.S. troops over breakfast at a heavily fortified base in the capital, Kabul.
RATHER CALLS OBAMA OSAMA
On Friday’s Morning Joe, a weekday morning talk show on MSNBC, Dan Rather shared his thoughts on Jesse Jackson’s recent comments about Sen. Barack Obama.
“With Jesse Jackson…I have a great respect for Jesse Jackson, that he was an important figure in paving the way for an Osama bin Laden to appear. But this is one of those things, I think, by the time we get to the conventions no one’s going to remember it. It doesn’t count for very much.”
Rather, who was anchor of the CBS Evening News for 24 years, referred to the Democratic presidential candidate as the world’s most wanted terrorist and no one even seemed to notice.
CLINTON EAGER TO CAMPAIGN
Former President Bill Clinton recently told reporters he’s eager to hit the campaign trail again, this time with Sen. Barack Obama.
He said that he’ll do it whenever Obama asks. He added that he hasn’t given any thought to whether he wants to speak at the convention next month, although former presidents often receive prime-time speaking spots at the party event.

I know that in politics its all fair with the jabs and stuff, but seriously some of the comments that people are making about Obama are down right disrespectful.

Best believe these mistakes are quite the opposite. the executives are enforcing a policy where Obama is ‘mistakenly’ called ‘Osama’ to subconsciouly instill fear and associative anxiety into the minds of white Americans when they hear the name. Pathetic! We shall not be stopped. OBAMA 08
I’m glad Bill has finally sucked it up and decided to do what he should have done over a month ago.
JD or anyone else, do you know if Liz Trotta was ever fired/suspended for her talking out the side of her neck? I hope i didn’t sign that petition for nothing

I don’t trust the Clintons they seem a little to eager to campaign these days.
As for Rather it really is no surprise that they are still on this ish, it’ll only get worst during the comin months but obama is strong as a rock this doesn’t budge him.

Honestly, I just think Dan Rather is old…I don’t think he did it on purpose or even realized it…but the funny part is that at the end he says that “Jesse should be smart enough to know that anything he says wrongs will be the joke the next day.” Jokes on Dan:) Poor old guy:)

I think Dan Rathers is a professional. He probably realized he said the name wrong and just kept going with his flow. I don’t think he was intentionally trying too do that. Considering the Republicans got him fired from CBS I don’t think he is a big fan of theirs.

White conservatives….Is this anything new?! We live in possibly the most racist country in the western world, and even with Obama standing nothing has changed.
Black people in this country may have all kinds of problems, but white folks (in power or not) are no less fucked up, especially with their domineering, conniving mentalities, which can be traced back through history..

————-Lol at all the excuse makers for Dan Rather. I think that his mind is far more
————-lucid than the majority of people. If you think that he said “Osama Bin
————-Laden when he was supposed to say “Barack Obama, I have a bridge to sell
————-you. This “mistake” has happened frequently and it’s obvious that the mass
————-media is intent on sending a subliminal message to the American public,
————-that being: 1)Obama is a Muslim. 2)The black male is a terrorist.

@11 and 21 I think you both are right. At first I thought mabey he just has Alzheimer’s disease, but it was awkward how none of the other anchors corrected him. And if infact he is old and senile, they didn’t make any attempts to take accountabity and make a correction on his behalf after he left. Wow.
That’s actually sad, what happened to the accuracy, truthfulness, objectivity, and fairness in the ethics of journalism?

I’m not even going to lie. I’ve confused Obama and Osama before just based on the obvious similarities but I don’t know about the Bin Laden part…that’s where you can tell it might have been intentional. Or maybe he got carried away after saying Osama…suspicious though

Word on the street is that Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki agrees with Obama that US troops should be out of Iraq as soon as possible. And he also stated that Obama’s 16 month drill down plan is feasible and appropriate. He also, shitted on McCain’s plan to stay in Iraq indefintley saying “it will lead to confusion and serious problem” Who looks out of touch on foreign policy issues, now?

The whole Dan Rather thing is soo weird, i kinda feel it was done intentionally with the likes if it lookin unintentional, its like one of those subliminal shit, if u were just watchin it on regular airtime u probably wouldn’t have noticed but the reason we all noticed it is because its been pointed out to us ahead of time so we know what 2 look 4. Or it could be just a mistake?

dan rather is an idiot……that was no accident….if he said “osama” it woulda bin one thing…he said “osama bin laden”…of course that sounds JUST like “barack obama”, right??

——–@30
——–
——–Brother, Obama is not pulling any troops out of anywhere. He has to say that
——–to make his message sound different from McCain’s. Immediately after meeting
——–with top military brass in Afghanistan, Obama is ON RECORD as saying that
——–he will deploy 7,000 more troops into Afghanistan. If he will deploy more troops
——–into Afghanistan, what do you think he will do in regards to Iraq?

@33 He has always said that we should have more troops in Afghanistan. That is not new. And in Iraq they want us out of there and I think we should ablige them and leave.
Why is it that this post only gets 35 post so far but a certain celebrity couple could photographed spitting and it will illicit almost 500 posts. Priorities people.

I also want to shout out Angel and J.D. I wish more people would show as much interest in informative post such as this one as they do to all the celeb gossip and fashion posts. Please enhance ur intelligence. The media is always more concerned by “so and such” wearing the latest outfit and “so and such” getting pregnant. Get it together. I like fashion too, but I know where my priorities lie. This celeb stuff has no bearing on everyday life or ur futures. Our next president can affect ur way of life. Most people forget about celeb new the next day.

Dan Rather is old but he’s hella smart. He knew exactly what he was saying when he said it. I’m pissed this hasn’t had more attention. I don’t think it should get attention because he’s another hater but rather because he should know better. When in the media, you keep your bias to yourself… not spread it. WTF is up w/ that???? He needs to go back to broadcasting 101!

————Obama is being set up as an archetype. It’s sad that I have to explain this to
————you, but everyone is not quick. While his character gets assassinated, it
————allows white America to continue to make aspersions on the black male.
————Obama is an African but he is viewed as a representative of the black male.
