POLITICAL/NEWS ROUNDUP: BEIJING BARS TOLD TO BAN BLACK PEOPLE DURING OLYMPICS? / CONDI PRAISES BARACK & PLANS TO MOVE ON / TAVIS TALKS

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

The 2008 Summer Olympics will be hitting China in a couple of weeks and some disturbing reports are coming out of Beijing.

According to the South China Morning Post, bar owners in the Beijing area were asked to refuse service to black patrons for the upcoming games. The article reports:

Bar owners near the Workers’ Stadium in central Beijing say they have been forced by Public Security Bureau officials to sign pledges agreeing not to let black people enter their premises.

“Uniformed Public Security Bureau officers came into the bar recently and told me not to serve black people or Mongolians,” said the co-owner of a western-style bar, who asked not to be named. [SOURCE]

WOW! The Olympics theme this year is “One World, One Dream” hopefully China will try to uphold it.

CONDI PRAISES BARACK & PLANS TO MOVE ON

When Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice appeared on CNN’s Late Edition earlier this week, she was asked about the historic nature of Sen. Barack Obama’s position as the presumptive Democratic nominee for the presidency.

WOLF BLITZER: One final question. Your immediate predecessor, Colin Powell. I interviewed him many times. But he said this to Tavis Smiley, back in January. About this race and about the phenomenon of Sen. Barack Obama, he said this:

“Let’s enjoy this moment where a person like Barack Obama can knock down all of those old barriers that people thought existed, with respect to the opportunities that are available for African Americans. And my congratulations to him.”

Now, you grew up in the segregated South. You know what racism is in our country. The fact that Barack Obama is now the Democratic presidential nominee, what does that say to you?

RICE: I think it’s great. And I think it’s great for our country.

And I do think it says that we’ve come a long way. But it’s interesting that it’s from Colin Powell. He knocked down a few barriers of his own. He knocked down the barrier of chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He knocked down the barrier to the first black secretary of State. Yes, I’ve knocked down a few too. It just shows that our country has been doing this for a while and it’s great that this last barrier, perhaps, has also come down.

BLITZER: Have you decided who to vote for?

RICE: Wolf, yes.

BLITZER: Do you want to tell us?

RICE: No.

Rice also mentioned that she has no intention of sticking around in Washington following her term.

Look, I’ve done my part. And I’ve got six months to sprint to the finish and then I have other things that I want to do. I want to go back to California, I want to write a serious book about American foreign policy. There are issues that have come to concern me greatly. Some that I was concerned about before I came here, like the state of education in the United States, which I think is at the root of our competitiveness. It’s at the root of our confidence and therefore it’s at the root of our international leadership. I’ll go back and work on issues like that. And it will be time for somebody else to take the stage.”

TAVIS TALKS

( Tavis Smiley speaking at the SOTBU last year )

According to Tavis Smiley, “There is no such thing in America as race transcendence, and Obama’s going to find that out real soon. There’s no such thing as ‘post-racial’ in America, because if you push the envelope too far, you’re going to hear about it.”

And he should know. Following negatively perceived comments about Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, Smiley endured a media firestorm after criticizing Obama for not attending the annual State of the Black Union. In April, he announced he would be leaving the Tom Joyner Morning Show. Although Joyner suggested that Smiley couldn’t take the heat surrounding his remarks on Obama, Smiley contended that he needed time to concentrate on other endeavors.

Smiley says, “Just because Barack Obama is black, doesn’t mean he gets a pass on being held accountable on issues that matter to black people. I’m not an Obama critic or a McCain critic. The term itself is dismissive and insulting.”

Smiley, who owns his radio show and has authored numerous books in addition to creating the Tavis Smiley Foundation to empower youth, will broadcast live from the Democratic convention next month, as well as the Republican convention in September.

“I want to do what I always try to do, which is to be authentic in my coverage,” Smiley says. “I’m an advocacy journalist, not a journalist in the traditional sense. I believe my role in the media is to get people to re-examine the assumptions they hold.”

“This is what I do — asking critical questions,” Smiley says. “Now some of you regard it as keeping a brother down, holding a brother back. Because you regard it that way, you don’t understand that this is the role that I’ve always played.”

no it’s not “fake news”. Asians as a whole do not like or respect Black people…

They believe we are bottom of the barral and that Whites who have done more harm to them should be held to a higher esteem.

Case in point many Indians believe the fairer you are, the more beautiful and richer you will be.

Indian women frequently use bleaching creams and are prepared to kill their daughter if she ever dated a Black man.

Not much has changed in this world.

That is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

I live in Beijing, and as one who has been down to the bar streets frequently, I can say for certain that there has never been nor will be such a policy in place. Since it’s the capital city, African national embassies and black people are everywhere. Some of them speak better Chinese than myself. I have a hard time imagining that bar owners would turn away business from anyone at the peak of China’s coming out party.

Don’t believe everything that you hear, CL!

china needs to fix themselves before they wreck themselves. I don’t care if there are 1.3billion of them over there. CL’s got 60,000 daily readers, I mean soldiers, and we’re ready for war baby.

Dr. Rice (let’s not call her Condi any more) IS ALL THAT and completely has it going on, in my book! Hate if you want to, but she knows how to get in where she fits in, stay there, take a lickin and keep on tickin, and change history! Token or not, the lady is the baddest thing IN the White House, and has been for the past 8 years.

Now… Smiley… save yourself from more shame and just get on the Obama-Band-Wagon! You’re either for Obama or against him. He’s trying his best to do everything right - trying to please the super-elite (Oil barons, Illuminati, his CFR buddies, etc) who will actually get him in office and keep him alive… meanwhile, he’s got to balance merely being ‘black without getting the reputation of forsaking his “brothers and sisters” ‘.

It’s hard enough trying to run for President being half-black. The Obama’s have received threats DAILY - not for any wrong-doing of their own… not from Iraqi’s or Iranians, or militant Muslims - OBAMA’S THREATS ARE FROM AMERICANS! Again, SIMPLY because of his skin color, it’s hard enough for him and his family — so Tavis, MY BROTHA, SUPPORT him. Don’t add fuel to fires, that could risk this history maker from accomplishing his goals.

What wew fall to see is that Obama is not cut from the same cloth as Tavis, Jessie and a feww other so call black leaders. First off when Obama announceed he was running no one in the black community asked what his policy was or what he stood for. They assumed he was running because his is a blackperson, which has been the case for ALL black people who have run. ( with acceptance of Fredrick Dougles) He is running because he wants to help all people. BUT at the begain it indeed appeared to be the voice of the black man. His stance on many issuse that black peoplle have found important have change. Tavis understands now more then ever that Obama will do what it takes to win elected, He has no friends in Congress being his first year and all, Most of all, If he is elected on the fact that he is black and the issues that are vaild in the black community are still issues once he has been in office Two to three years then there is going to be a problem. One of the big issues in the community is that there are an alarming number of us in the Millitary. Obama’s policy went from bring all the troops home, to time table, to as needed, to send them to Afgain to fight terror. So like said tavis Is seeing this and he understands. Just because he is black and running doesn’t mean he is the best man for the job

Off topic, I always thought Tavis was fine!! LOL anyway, he does have a right to be upset at Barack for not showing at the State of the Black Union, it is after all one the most forefront black forums…but I think we all need to keep in mind (and Tavis you especially) that Barack is a politician who happens to care a lot about what he represents. But he is a politician first, just like Tavis is an outstanding journalist first.

Re: Tavis Smiley:

I am so sick of Tavis Smiley and his “I speak for all Black people” monster-size ego. Yes, Tavis, we know that racism still exists in this country, and I don’t think that Barack is naive or egotistical enough to think that his candidacy or his election as President will rid our country of racist attitudes. He knows that he has to walk a fine line in this election when it comes to race. But you, Mr. Smiley, are not the sole representative for Black Americans as you believe yourself to be. Your ego was bruised because Barack was unable to attend your “State of the Black Union” event. I’ve read comments from other Black people about this event, and they say that it’s nothing more than an attempt for you to peddle the next book you have coming out, that nothing really gets accomplished at these meetings. You come back every year and talk about the same topics that Black people talk about all the time amongst themselves, they don’t have to come to your event to do it. Get over yourself!

27.

MYPOV

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 /

Tavis Smiley calling his annual meeting “The State of the Black Union” implies that Blacks live in a separate America, a separate society from the rest of the country, and that notion does not fit with what Barack is trying to promote through his campaign, that we are ONE nation, regardless of race.

@ JA:

Obama has NOT switched his position regarding the war. He has always said that we should have never waged war in Iraq, that instead we should have been focusing on fighting terrorism in Afghanistan, not Iraq because there were no weapons of mass destruction, and we have yet to locate Osama Bin Ladin. You have to be sensible and realistic when making the decision to end a war and allowing military forces to leave, things must be done in a very thoughtful, timely fashion. The U.S. government created this mess, creating chaos in Iraq and making the Iraqi people even less safe than they were before.

To #6, unless you’re of actual asian decent… don’t talk. I’m half indian so I know for a fact its not about ethnicity but rather skin tone. Colonization has left certain parts of Asia (like India) in a “color war” BUT China was that way BEFORE colonization. China has a HISTORY of turning their back to darker tones (regarding to the treatment of their citizens in the Canton region). So altho your comment was correct in terms of example, it was politically wrong. So “NO” its not a “black” thing and shouldn’t be seen as such.

Ask yourself what ACTION you can take to prevent b.s. like this from happening to your nieces, nephews, sons, daughters, grand children, cousins, god children ( I think you get the point)… some of us may not live to see a change but as tupac said we can spark the mind of the child who will change the world (or something like that)

For the first time since I have been acquainted with Tavist Smiley I respect his opinions. In the past I have felt he is a self serving, race bater. Afterall that’s what puts food on his table.

But this time he is SO RIGHT about Barack being tooted as the BLACK SAVIOUR, when he is REALLY THE WHITE SAVIOUR. White rascist love him to death because they are going to use this negro to the fullest to:

Make them look good in front of the entire world, from a human rights perspective. While millions of our young black men are slaving in the prison slave camps, everyone in the world will be staring admiringly and praising white america for lifting
a black man to the highest office in the land. They will be so busy admiring America’s Trojan Horse Obama, that they won’t see the rascist raid the black community, round up our men, and lead them to their death. IF he dare speaks out about it himself, they will kill him. And so the genocide goes on because he is no MLK and he’s NOT BLACK AMERICAN ENOUGH JUST LIKE JESSE SAID.

Are their any MLK’s amongst us? We need some people willing to die to save the next generation. We need the same kind of soldiers who marched in the civil rights movement and faced billy clubs, vicious dogs, water hoses, and jails.

38.

andy

Wednesday, July 23, 2008 /

I don’t know why the fools Condi and Colin act like having a first in this office or that office means breaking down barriers for black people. Every since slavery ended rascist have been lifting up a trojan horse to do their bidding for a season. We had senators right after slavery. Once their jobs to help destroy their people were done, it took more than one hundred years to neglect another one LOL. And these 2 so-called intelligent people aren’t even intelligent enough to know their black history.

One thing that i think its imperative for us to do as Black people is shy away from this unchallenged and blind support of any one candidate. irrespective of their race. Obam’s position already is historical, but people like Tavis Smiley have a RIGHT in fact he has more than a right he has a DUTY to enquire about what it is that Obama intends to do for black people as that is his vested interest. Politicians are first and foremost SERVANTS, servants of you the populus- this is suppossed to be the glory of DEMOCRACY. I am really quite scared right now because i feel that we are gettin into this place of getting caught up in the euphoria of the moment without actually taking the time out to asses, analyse and if necessary critique his policy. We hold the power not any one politician and i urge us to make this presidency one of representation and accountability as opppossed to a near enough dictatorship!! i say carry on Tavis Smiley- one thing this community needs are people that are ready to stand outside the political system and be social wittnesses!!!!!

Bejing has never respected the civil rights of their own people - so this is no surprise. The real issue is that the Olympic Committee should have considered that when awarding them the Olympics. This type of racism and prejusdice is what people have been protesting since they were awarded the Olympics.

Tavis … Just Hush.

Patience

Wednesday, July 23, 2008 /

Thank you #33 DyVINESUN. I am a free thinking adult and that is what Tavis is promoting in this political race. I heard him say similar things when Bill Clinton was running. What’s fascinating is the amount of criticism he gets for saying something we all should aspire to do, not hold anyone up to be our “savior”. I don’t want Barrack Obama under that kind of pressure. For those who think he will be the answer to all of our prayers (no need to respond if you are not one of them), let’s not place him in that position. If, no “when” elected, he will have to contend with a variety of issues and people that will test him in every way possible. He could faill a time or two, like most human beings and like every other president before him. He could be held to a different or changing standard, as has been our experience when dealing with a variety of issues in America. When those occasions happen, time will tell just how supportive the media and the rest of America, particularly Black America will continue to be.

Tavis is to be admired for many reasons. He stands for something that “transcends” race, even though pride in our race is often the topic of his conversations, whether you agree with him or not. He is fairly consistent in what he has asked us to do; respect ourselves, hold ourselves accountable, hold our leaders accountable, hold America accountable. What is wrong with that? IMO nothing.

So what if he didn’t get caught up in Black America’s frenzy over Obama? How disingenuous that would have made him since he promotes accountability, not blind loyalty. That is to be admired. Are we so intolerant that we can’t tolerate one of our own respectfully, objectively questioning Obama’s qualifications for the Presidency?

No 41, Thinkaboutit, what you said about Bejing’s civil rights abuses is so true. Because of its history, several called for the current President of the United States, George W. Bush, to speak out and not attend the opening ceremonies for the Olympics. Conversely, many argued that he should show up and be supportive of US athletes because they worked so hard to get there. I understood that logic but wondered if something else would happen to place Bejing in the limelight again. Whether the article in the Bejing paper is true or not, I find it quite possible that Blacks will endure discriminatory behavior while visting Bejing. I am basing my statement on the research I have done on the net and from reading blogs of those Blacks who have had positive and negative experiences while working in or visiting Bejing.

43.

Lady Architect

Wednesday, July 23, 2008 /

I hope the news about Bejiing isn’t true, but if it is I wouldn’t be surprised because they discriminate against their own as well which is sad. People can’t stand us as blacks because they are so use to us being the under dogs not having anything, but we are dominating the music, sports, and entertainment industries. We have rising numbers in lawyers, doctors, scientists, architects, etc. We age extremely well, can play around with textures in our hair, and mimic almost any other decent naturally. Why not hate us? They can’t be us that’s why.

As far as Tavis goes I have always respected him and continue to do so, but he’s losing fans and I think he should quit talkin or examine his words first. When Obama first anounced he was running, people took him as a joke and automatically assumed he would lose against Hillary. When he started taking those predominately white states people opened their eyes and then the hate mail and media began to clabber at him. Tavis jumped on the band wagon and it was easy to tell it streamed from from the whole missing the state of the black union address. Tavis never talked bad or “began to research his policies” until after that incident. If you are gonna study policies then study both candidates and compare. Don’t study one because he is black and say what’s he gonna do for black people. IT is not only about us, it is about the nation as a whole. Discrimination won’t end but maybe it will lessen. Everyone talking about what’s he gonna do for blacks only makes other races scared to elect him. Tavis how about having a state of the black union address where you talk about some solutions rather than just talk about how uneducated we are, how poor we are, etc. Get some of those black owners to hire poor people, or offer more scholarships to those who can’t afford college, get some stock brokers, architects, etc out there and help people get to the higher level. Talk is one thing, but action is the best.

I cant view many of the posts here completely but let me say that what Tavis is saying is absolutely correct. His concern has been my concern and we both have caught hell for our concerns. The truth of the matter quite frankly is this….BLACK PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY ARE NOT SOBER. We are DRUNK on Barrack Obama to the point of we aren’t even thinking. He is doing the VERY things Hillary Clinton was criticized and berated, and labeled ‘racist’ for. He is willing to do anything and say anything to get elected. He has changed positions on issues. And worst of all he used black men as a tool to get elected. Even staunch Obama supporter Michael Eric Dyson noticed, and wrote a piece on it for time Magazine. Yet the black community was so drunk, we couldn’t see what was happening.

It was clear Fox News set Jesse Jackson up by leaving his mic on on purpose. And if you look at the facts about the situation and how they let it play out, you will see whate was going on. They even later suggested Jackson said other things like calling Obama a mulatto N!gger which the HEAD OF FOX eventually denied but our Black people ate it up and raked Jackson over the coals. We are so drunk, we are at a point where we are blindly believing Bill O’Reilly and FOX NEWS and it is all based in our drunk love for Barrack Obama.

this is the very type of thing Smiley and myself worried about. I questioned Obama’s commitment to the Black community and Smiley wanted a guarantee from him that he wouldn’t abandon the community and take us for granted, which he has slyly already done, without most of us even recognizing it.

I am not telling our community not to vote for him, though personally am not. But I am asking Black Americans to SOBER THEMSELVES to the point where you will at the very least allow Obama to be questioned without labeling the person ‘jealous’ or a “seellout’, or a “crab in a barrel”. Sober up Black folks.

Bejing better get it together cause if they have one bad incidnet of discimination it’ll tarnish their reputation for years. I kinda doubt that story is true though, cause their spending big money on this Olympics, especially on learning and understanding American culture.

I like Condi. The woman is smart and I like the fact that she said that she wants to work on some real issues like education when she ends her term. Most people just go around the country making speeches for big money. At least she’s motivated to help out a cause that definitely needs some help.

I think that as African Americans we do plan on holding Obama accountable if he’s elected president. Just like any other politican that’s elected. Tavis is not giving black people enough credit, and yeah I think his feelings are hurt cause Obama didn’t come to his Black Union think in LA. We all know what’s at stake with this election.

First of all, anyone looking to Obama to be the “savior” of Black people shouldn’t vote for him, because it’s not going to happen that way, and I am a proud Obama supporter. I believe that, if elected as President, he will do what he can for the Black community, for all Americans because he will be representing EVERYONE, not just Black people. But you must understand that “they” will be watching him like a hawk, looking for any opportunity to treat him ten times as badly as they treated Clinton, because Obama is a Black man in the ultimate position of power. Obama cannot just wave a magic wand and make the problems of not only the Black community, but problems that all Americans are facing today, go away.

Secondly, what some of you fail to see is that this is really about TAVIS SMILEY, not about the Black community and holding elected officials accountable. People like Tavis Smiley and Jesse Jackson are frustrated and their egos are bruised because Obama didn’t have to go through them or kiss their a$$es in order to gain support from the Black community. Men like Tavis and Jesse perceive themselves as having a lot of power and influence within the Black community, this is about their own self-importance. So in their minds, how DARE someone like Obama reach this point in the election without reaching out to the two of them, two of the “major voices” in the Black community. Tavis loves Tavis, period. Tavis isn’t stupid, he’s smart enough to know that we don’t live in a “post-racial” society, so he must know that Obama has to “walk a fine line” when it comes to reaching out to the different races in our country.

Lastly, Obama winning or losing the election will come down to people deciding “how ‘Black’ is he?” If enough Whites and non-Blacks determine that he’s “too Black” (i.e. a Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton type of presidential candidate) then he will likely lose. And anything that he could have done for the Black community and for all Americans will be non-issue then, right?

Tavis Smiley needs to get over himself. He is not the only voice of black america. Does he call himself punishing Barack because he didnt attend an event that Tavis Smiley thought was important? Tavis needs to stop behaving as if he gets to determine what is important for Barack to do and what is not. Barack is running for president of the United States, not of African Americans. There are a million and one events that would love to have Barack attend, and they all believe that thier event is the most important. The man simply cannot be everywhere at the same time, so some events have to be passed on. It is not as if Barack has ignored issues relevant to Black America, so what is the problem? He has to run on a platform that makes him a good choice for all Americans, not just blacks. It is sad that some people will vote or support him just because he is African American (in part) and not be well informed on the issues and his positions, but it is even sadder that Tavis isnt following his own advice. Because when you look at the alternative Barack is by far the voice of change in this election.

—————I find this hilarious for black people to get mad that the Chinese won’t let——————–them in clubs and stuff. There are no black folks in Asia and what they———————-know about black folks is from movies and rap video’s. So all of you———————-that say how harmless it is that rappers project a certain image for black——————men and women should just shut up. Do you now understand how media——————influences not just people here in the US, but all over the world? We are——————–reaping what we have sowed. I have been to Japan and experience this———————first hand. Most of the Japanese there thought all black women were super—————–sexual and acted like ghetto chicks. In the past the white man exported——————–racisim to the east, but now “black” culture has ruined it for a lot of us.

There some truth to that Story from China. Truth is stranger than fiction, As black people we need to raise our awareness and not think, that this sort of thing doesn’t go on any longer. Do you use it as a crutch? No. but you have to be aware of the playing field in order to play the game of life properly. If you’re not, then you set out to loose.

Racism doesn’t exist in actuality, but it does in the minds of people of all races. That is just as dangerous as if it did exist. The only difference, is you don’t have to let it affect you. It was created to keep people from working together in a common goal to achieve things as a people. If the powers that be can keep you focused on things that don’t matter or things that you have no control over. Then you will never be bothered to change things that do matter, or things that you have control over.

Bite on that for a second.

57 while on the right track you’re misguided, by anger of your own culture. While yes it is some black people that are rapping and portraying these negative images, there are some who are not, but the negative ones get portrayed by the people with the money, to make more money. Think before you speak, and make sure what you speak is truth. Never speak out of emotion,

It’s sad that Chinese, Whites, and many more races hate blacks. My sister is a teacher and she said that many of the children she educated are from another race. 60% of the staff is African American. The same people ’s children she educated hates the educator. These are the same children who can’t speak English and the governement has so many programs to help them reach their highest potential. But think about it, were Blacks giving the same oppotunities many years ago? We were spit on and called derrogatory names. When comes to us, race will always play a factor.

We as black people need to come together and rise up against all the hatred people bestow on us. We need to especially help our young males. We need to stop point the fingers and deal with the issues at hand. We used to be the number 2 race in American, but our numbers are decreasing tremendously. Our children are suffering for what the so called media portray us to be (look at the no sagging law). It really makes me upset when people get in these high places forget where they come from and what to tear each other down. We never stick together and try to help each other when we are on top. That is why we aren’t strong like we use to be.
As for Obama, I am a supporter. If he gets office, the first term he going to have to do what the democrat expect for him to do so that he could win the next election. Even if he can get the economy back the way it use to be, that a plus. Then when he get to his second term, he will do what ever he wants to do (for us hopefully) since it would be his last term. Isn’t that what Bush did?

Once again, Tavis thinks that Black Americans are supposed to bow down to his opinions just b/c he puts together the State of the Black Union…ahem…naw….and black people are not stupid and we are the last to vote for someone b/c of race. Hence…black people not jumping on Obama’s ban wagon until after HILLARY..proved not to be the right person for America.

Also, I wonder what is up with Condi? She keeps acting as if she woke up…

#26 Well said, black people do need to wake up but unfortunately they won’t. The black experience (slavery, racism, poverty, etc) is something blacks will NEVER recover from. The black race is at the bottom of the barrel, and ignorant blacks fall right into the bafoonery trap when it comes to the media, lack of education, etc. I am so disgusted where we are as a race in today’s society.

As far as China, wake up people banning blacks from their bars are just the beginning.
In a few years don’t be surprised if we see white only, or colored only signs on bathrooms and water fountians.

Watch CNN tonight @9pm, WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!

It’s really bothering me that some of the comments in this post about the issue in bejing are extremely racist. I fully understand the upset but why respond with racial slurs against all asian people? It’s makes us look just as bad. And if you read the post carefully, it’s the establishment owners in the area that are complaining about being forced to refuse black people. Just my opinion. I’ve lived with discrimination my entire life as pretty much all of us black people have, but just because in general a group of people may seem racist doesn’t mean all of them are.

Question??

Wednesday, July 23, 2008 /

I have a question. What the hell you’ll want Obama to do for Black people? Get us out of jail? Give us reprations for slavery? Hold our hands and sing kumbuya? Just exactly what is you’ll want? He aint God, he cant stop racism, he cant make everyone love each other. Obama can come to the black community and give speeches on how we need to change, but dosent that usually go in one ear and out the next. So what is you’ll want him to do for us?? The man aint perfect, he’s going to make mistakes. Is it because he is a black man that he has to hold our hands and help us along the way? The man is running for United States of America not the United States of Black America. Their are other races living in this country besides blacks, he has to be for all the people. Obama is working hard to fulfill one of MLK dream which is blacks will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by content of their character. Obama has been dragged thru the fire but yet maintains diginity and intelligence, now that says a lot about his character. And today he is proving to whites that we blacks are not as ignorant as they may think. The man is just a man, not the saviour of the black community. If you want to be saved, seek ye first the kingdom of God. If you’ll really ready to do somthing as a black community read Malcom X speech The Ballot or the Bullet, it provides a great guideline.

I doubt the Olympics story is true. As someone who frequents China’s biggest cities, I’ve never seen this happen. In fact, i will often see the OPPOSITE happen, as in people want to talk to you because you’re so “rare” there. And wtf, Mongolians??? Did they just throw that in for good measure?

Tavis: so everyone is overlooking everything tavis said….but hey its the truth
. so obama is black
. so he has it hard
. so he might make history

but just because all of that is might happen or the color of his skin…it doesn’t mean he gets treated different than any other politician…b/c obama is black he should have came to the state of the black union..because it wasn’t for his color trust he wouldn’t got this far….and u know…b/c half his voters are ppl who are my g-ma age and up who think they should vote for him just b/c of that and i admit some do actually think for a minute if he is okay for the position of president…but not many…and then the other half is yes ppl he has actually gained rightfully b/c of his views, character, and just because he is great for the postion…however as black ppl and as young black ppl we need to stop lending our voice just because and ask quesiton about everything b/c if we don’t someone who doens’t give a shit like some racial chineese….lol…or white american are….and they gonna kick him down…if ask the hard question maybe he might just make into the white house…so tavis doesn’t need to sit down he need to continue b/c yes the world has changed but not that DAMN much and obama prolly has seen the real deal….ppl want him dead…and he knows that some of those old ways are really old…

I was not saying that rap music and “black” culture represents all black people, but we know now that that is what sells so why try to make that the overwhelming snapshot of black american. white companies are making money hand over fist by putting that image out there, but we have to be responsible. I’m not saying that all rap is bad or that it is wrong to see strippers, but come on. There is a serious lack of diversity in the images people see about black folks and somehow most black people defend the same insane sterotypes as gospel.

Why is china getting away with banning blacks and mongolians from bars in beijing. I don’t hear enough people being outraged about them getting away with placing the band on just two groups of people. Once again we are Asia disrespecting us when will we learn that the world has very little respect for blacks. I’m sad that the games are in that country. The committee that selects the country to hold the olympics should work like hell and dig deeper to make sure that racist banning of particular group of people from any race won’t come out weeks before the games start. Please do a better job next time. This is suppose to be a time when the world comes together and celebrate its best athletes and now we are dealing with racism in the OLYMPICS. I’m just real sad.
