Part of the entertainment business is about image an rih has it! She’s got the right songs, the right image and enough vocals to pull it all off. Personally, I don’t think of Beyonce or Rihhanna or Ashanti as big time singers. I think of Jennifer Hudson, Whityney Houston, Fantasia, Faith Evans, kelly Price and women like that as true singers, you know people who were influenced by Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle. As someone else said, Beyonce nor Rihanna can mess with a Fantasia or J-Hud vocally,…what they can do is bring their entertainment value, image looks, and moderate vocal ability to the table. I am not dissing them, but I am saying none of the younger chicks with weaves and style, and sexy clothes can mess with true singers. Alicia is a prolific writer but her vocals are not ground-breaking to me. I think its all relative to how old you are and what kind of singers you use as a frame of reference. The old school singers is the gauge I use to determine what a great singer sounds like to me.
