She did have a tour where she headlined Ciara and toured by herself overseas so technically you’re correct, but Akon was the bigger star for the North America leg at the time selling over 3 million in the US alone, therefore he recieved top billing (which were 25% of the total dates). And those sellouts you are referring to is going a bit far. The 40,000+ sellout was a FREE concert. And how many 20,000 seat arenas did Bat Girl sell out? How could she have gained inspiration from a song that she or the public hadnt even heard yet?

Why are people in this post so bitter? There’s no excuse for anyone who swagger jacks in the industry. Every star, yes every star has done it. That “well they took styles from who ever and revamped it into their style” is a bunch of BS. They took a style and added their name to it. I think people are angry because Rihanna was more successful with the black rockstar look than kelis and fefe dobson. Both ladies were good, but for some reason were unsuccessful and were not something the consumers wanted because after all the consumers are the ones who determine the popularity of an artist. Both Kelis and fefe dobson got their styles from people like Sheila E., Pebbles, and Paula Abdul so they too were not original they simply utilized an old style which is not a problem. If you don’t like what Rihanna is doing then don’t be a consumer plain and simple, but if she is famous there’s obviously a number of consumers who determined that she should be. Gwen Stefani also hugely successful because of her style taken from Cyndi Lauper and Gwen actually admits it. Nothing wrong with that because it made her successful.

@75 There is no way that Beyonce and Rhiana are alike, they are totally different, Rhiana is more of a Pop singer who has a large crossover audience and she really does not perform she only sings, no dancing, while Beyonce started in R&B, she only really went kinda of Pop with the release of B’Day, Beyonce has a crossover appeal put Beyone is an established performer, and she also acts and has her own clothing line, so Beyonce is in a different arena than Rhianna, the only thing they have in common is that they are Black females that are both successful in their singing careers, and they are both very attractive.

@mzc2u riri said she admired fefe like 2 years ago (or maybe one yr ago) and after that she started cutting her hair shorter. fefe even cut her hair boy length and riri did too afterwards. she may not be jacking fefe though (they sing completely diff music b/c although both pop, fefe is more rockish and riri is more dance-ish) but it’s just too much of a coincidence considering that there aren’t many females in hollywood with boy cuts and she clearly knows/notices fefe. i think she looks at what other ppl are doing, likes it, does it herself, and then everyone says she’s edgy and original.

music is music. this is a business. you do what you gotta do to make yourself relevant. whether its staying true to your roots (alicia keys) or going pop (riri) or “swagger jacking” u do what you have to do. nothing now a days and i mean NOTHING is original. there is always inspiration/imitation in everything.

the only thing is that rihanna’s inspiration/imitation is obvious.

@ashleigh ppl can comment on blogs if they want to. i mean i go to school (shout out to my pre-meds) and have breaks. i study the rest of the day so i use my breaks to surf the web and to see ppl’s opinions on things. i’m not a huge fan of hers but i want to know what other ppl think. it’s like when you see a new trend and say “hmm i wonder if ppl will actually follow this”. it’s just curiosity. plus ppl like to argue lol

This is the reason there are magazines in every beauty shop. You sit in that chair with a pic of a celeb saying you want your hair to look like that. This is the reason Tianna posts the “What They Rocked” section and you all flock to it…looking to cop your favorite celebs looks. So if Rihanna is a biter & swagga jacker for gaining inspiration from artists who have come before her…so are you…and so am I.

I take her for what she is. “Good Girl Gone Bad” is a great album. Her voice may leave much to be desired, but the songs…the production was stellar. It was a fun R&B/Pop/Rock album. I didn’t expect much from it….I didn’t hold her to any type of standard. I like it for what it is. I still bump that album till this day. “Say It”. “Rehab”, “Sell Me Candy”, “Good Girl Gone Bad” ALL really good songs.

I can’t hate on the girl…she’s making more money than I have…she’s living a life I wouldn’t mind leading…she’s in a profession I would LOVE to be in.

I agree with 142. Also, I read (#141) that her hair was cut real short in a pixie cut before she was signed and she was forced to put the brown weave in because that’s what was in style at the moment. Who knows what really goes on in the “business”. If you like it support it, if you don’t, well, don’t. I’m very excited about the video. I think it looks hot.

(sorry for these questions lol) but why does someone making more money than you mean that you can’t “hate” (or really just give an opinion) about them? ppl do it all the time to kim kardashian, britney, meagan goode, etc. so why not riri? i don’t really understand that logic. i highly doubt that anyone on this site is ready to kill someone for liking riri (if so, i’m be partly dead- not huge fan but i don’t hate her). ppl are just stating their opinions. if you want to be around ppl who love her, you could go to a fan site. that would make more sense

@cece no her hair wasn’t cut b/c there are high-school pics of her 16,17 yrs of age and her hair was medium length, i think a little past her shoulders. i think she started singing professionally at 18. then again maybe she had a weave in those pics too idk

at 146. her hair was short. she cut after her first album. they made her put weave back in for a girl like me because the label didnt like it.

it wasnt until good girl gone bad that she cut it again and dyed it black. no one saw ity until the video shoot so they couldnt do anything about it at that point.

But alot of people’s comments make NO sense up here. There are very FEW “original” artists out now. People are downing this girl for gaining inspiration from elsewhere. I didn’t say I love her. I don’t worship her. I simply said I like her album for what it is.

As for not hating. I don’t hate on anyone. What they eat don’t make me shit. So why bother? I have my own life to lead. She’s doing her…why fault her?
