Here’s is the self-proclaimed Prince of Virginia’s new single, “In Ya Phone,” from his upcoming third LP. I was a fan of Trey’s first two albums, for different reasons. I don’t know, I’m a little on the fence about this new single. Trey is in Atlanta working on his third project, so I’m hoping that some good work comes out for him, ’cause I’m not in love with this new song.

Apparently, “6 In the Morning” is Sean’s new single from his album, Turbo 919, which has been pushed back God knows how many times. I don’t know what they’re going to do to release this album, considering that it leaked so long ago – and all the material is floating all over the internet. I knew that this was gonna happen when he dropped that “Grippin’” single. Some people are just best behind the scenes…

Lloyd’s new album, Lessons In Love drops next Tuesday, August 5th. I’m really excited, considering that I have pretty much loved all the material that I’ve heard from the album. His first single, “Girls All Around the World” has been doing really well, and even though “Let Me Know” hasn’t been my favorite of his material to leak, I’m genuinely excited about his project. Lloyd’s delivery has been solid and on point all the way through.

Really Sisqo? I stopped caring a long time ago. I thought that Sisqo was working on a solo album, then that Dru Hill track leaked, and now this again. I’m not sure how Sisqo plans to stay relevant in the industry, considering that even these new artists are having hard times dropping singles (even with great producers and features). I think he’d have better luck with a Dru Hill comeback.

Johnta Austin, who was supposed to release his debut solo album, Ocean Drive some time ago, is still putting out music. I always like Johnta’s material: the stuff that he writes for others, and himself. But it seems like he’s having trouble. The last single, “The One That Got Away” was great, and even had a video but seemed to not hit as hard as they thought.
“Lovin’ U” was produced by the talented Bryan-Michael Cox, who is a long-time friend and collaborator with Johnta. I’m hoping that the album final gets released. His MySpace hasn’t been updated in a while, still with a release date of March 4th (that came and went). I still have hopes of this album coming out, but things are looking a little bleak…

UGK introduces their new single, “Hard As Hell,” featuring hitmaker and hook man, Akon. “Hard As Hell” is the first single from their new album, UGK For Life.
UGK For Life will most likely be UGK’s last album, considering the recent passing of duo member Pimp C. The song was produced by Akon for Konvict Music. Akon is a beast in the game – he is everywhere, on everything. Read the title and just think as literally as you possible can.
I wonder how much material they had finished before Pimp C.’s unfortunate passing. I haven’t read anything about UGK’s album release date, but I think that they’re setting up for an end of the summer release.

I believe that the age of the CDs is dead. There is so much bad music out there that I would rather go on Itunes (and buy a single that i like) or go on Rhapsody (and rent the cd for $12 a month) then spend hard earned money on a 14 track CD that might have 8 actual songs (4 of which are good) and 6 intros or interludes.
And as far as Songwriters turned singers…we don’t all get second chances like Lionel Richie die so maybe behind the scenes are better. Or how about this…if you can write a hit for someone else and not yourself….Write like your writing the song for someone else….DUH!!

Brian you sound like a hater, you big up all these wack ass new artists that send you halfway produced sound a like demo’s every day but when a real song writer like Garret tries to do his thing you hate from jump. Aint nothing wrong with Grippen, and the Turbo 919 album actually had some cuts on it. I think your hate for Garret stems from his appearance.. if he didn’t look like an Orge from lord of the rings..you’d be all over him. Trey’s new song is hot. You have to hear it a few times but is catchy and great for radio. It reminds me of the The Dream’s Shawty – Shawty is a ten mixed with some T-Pain vocalizer feel. This is what’s working on radio right now so big ups to Trey and that new album “Ready” coming this December.

Trey has a nice voice. He’s very gifted lyrically and vocally, but his music is no different than other things I hear on the radio. I want something different. I want him to show us he’s as talented as we know he can be.

I did not like a single one of the songs I was listening to as singles for any of these artists:
The WORST comes from Sisqo who has the nerve to release this crap that sounds like leftovers from “Unleash the Dragon”. The production is extremely dated…but even if the sound was current, who is behind the mixing boards? Sisquo is barely audible. From beginning to end, “Xtacy” is cliche’ class-A crap.
I’m trying to figure out why Rick Ross lent his creative genius to Sean Garrett on this “destined to be shelved” track? Sean must not realize that his voial stylings are an ambiguous blend of The Dream, Lloyd & Akon. He sounds like each one of the artists at a different points in the song. I almost thought that 3 different people were signing at one point. Bag it up and throw it out.
Trey Songz had done a nice job of shaking things up with his latest album and the singles he chose. “In Ya Phone” is a strong departure from the material he has released of the new project thus far. To me, it doesn’t fit with the direction at all. This is bubble gum pop almost…Trey is 22 now and even the younger Chris Brown has more mature sounding subject matter. Let’s re-evaluate this one.
The UGK track would have been fine, sans Akon. Akon’s flow did not mesh with UGK at all…they hook and the verses sounded like two completely different Akon tracks.
Johnta Austin isn’t about to launch a career, an album or anything sounding the way he does on “Lovin U”. And I’m ashamed of B. Cox for having his hands in the mix and not preventing or derailing this train wreck. But for starters Johnta’s voice as a solo feature is not aesthetically pleasing.
Finally, Lloyd does have a nice falsetto and boyish charm about his voice. In this instance something was lacking in the production and the melody of the music. the track definitely sounded empty behind Lloyd’s crooning.

i don’t like Trey’s track, sean garret beat is hot but i don’t like the lyrics and his voice, Sisqo’s X-tacy track is old…i remember that song that was like almost 10yrs ago. Why is he tryin to bring that song back? Im not feelin Lloyd’s track….i don’t think his album will do me any justice. Johnta need to give it up, his album is goin to continue to be pushed back another year. He might as well not do an album. I am so tired of Akon being on somebody else’s music, he kills the mood of enjoyment.

Ok I’m done. Im goin to continue listen to all of my old cds that had more than one songs that i can play over and over. All of these new songs coming out are so boring and doesn’t last long with me. Yeah they might as well just do singles and release them as single like they used to instead of doing a whole album. Its a wrap..I’m not going to pay $9.99 during the week of the release for only 1 or 2 songs i may play more than once and throw the cd back in my glovebox? waste of money. Bring something out so i can keep in my cd changer for a good minute.
