TV ROUNDUP: Kanye & MTV’s “Choose or Lose” Give Back To YOUNG War Vets / ‘BLACK IN AMERICA’ ON THIS WEEK

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

In this next installment of “Choose or Lose,” MTV’s ongoing campaign to bring awareness to young veterans issues, MTV News and Kanye West have teamed up to tell the stories of returning veterans in the powerful documentary “Choose or Lose & Kanye West Present: Homecoming” set to air on Monday, July 28 at 10pm ET/PT.

In this one hour special, Kanye, along with Sway Calloway, give recently returned Afghanistan and Iraq war veterans the surprise of their lives by unexpectedly visiting their homes. Viewers will see first-hand the difficult and often painful challenges young vets face when they return home.

“There are hundreds of veterans out there who are falling through the cracks. They make the ultimate sacrifices for us by laying down their lives, but it seems like a lot of them just get forgotten about,” West said. “I know my music inspires and helps a lot of people, but you can always do more. I teamed up with MTV and took the opportunity to share the spotlight with these veterans and hear their stories. I went to their homes to listen and get their firsthand experiences. I wanted to hear their stories.”

On behalf of MTV and the Dr. Donda West Foundation, Sway and Kanye gave each veteran a life changing gift. Debts were paid off, rents were taken care of and tuitions were funded. Make sure to tune in.

ANOTHER CLIP FROM ‘BLACK IN AMERICA’

Here is another exclusive clip from CNN’s upcoming ‘Black in America’ report. This clip features Oscar winning actress/comedian Whoopi Goldberg speaking on her experiences as a black woman in America. The special airs tonight and tomorrow night (23rd & 24th) at 9pmET/PT only on CNN..

I’m proud of Mr. Ye and the MTV organization. My husband is active duty and he’s set to leave for Iraq for Sept but will leave as soon as I give birth to our third child in Nov.I’m happy to hear some positive news I get so sad reading about women and men who have came back and things are going terribly wrong and some are committing suicide once home and also while deployed.I will definitely look at it.

OK F*CK HIS MUSIC…THAT RIGHT THERE MAKES ME A FAN OF KANYE WEST…I “HOPE” HE CONTINUES TO HELP THE SOLDIERS IN THE FUTURE…AND HOPEFULLY HIP HOP/R&B STARS WILL FOLLOW

YOU KNOW BLACK CELEBS IN HIP HOP DON’T REALLY STAND FOR ANYTHING(WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A “VERY SMALL FEW) THAT ACTUALLY AFFECT OUR COMMUNITY. IF ITS NOT A PR SET-UP OR FOUNDATION/TAX WRITE OFF/LOOK GOOD FOR THE CAMERA SITUATION

KUDOS TO KANYE…KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! THIS POST MADE ME SMILE

I’m sure this is the legacy his mom would be so proud that he is creating. Now a days people are so about self, and they expect Oprah to do it all, but a young man like Kanye West taking a stand says YES WE CAN, not just through Obama, but each of them can make a difference!!

BLACK AMERICA IS BLACK AMERICA I AGREE but some people still lives under the century old mentality that blacks and whites are different rather than just a skin color difference.
My mom is black and my dad is white AND TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE they are strong and they think the same way above race

Thats great for Kanye…i hope to remember to catch it. But that is a issue in itself. Alot of vets have psycological & health issues when they return from Iraq. Some have to adjust with living with burned skin or prosthetic limbs, having nightmares and having to adjust back to family life where the other spouse pretty much ran the whole household, as well as the spouses & vets dealing with trust issues and sometimes infidelty. I have taken care of vets who got hooked on heroine and other drugs to deal with the things they seen and witnessed over there, some were extremely psychotic and very young.

And don’t even get started on them adjusting back to civilian life and trying to land a decent job if they are retired vets from the military. I’m glad Kanye & Sway are bringing this issue up & making more folks aware. Good for them!

I love love love Whoopi, and her keep it real approach. Black in America is a program needed so that we (americans) can see the diversities of black america…We are alot more then what the media portray. Unfortunately alot of people are raised by the t.v and believe every imagine. (sad but true). So hopefully this program can kill some of the sterio types of our culture. We have all diffrent classes of people. Yet the media choose to focus on the poor or how bad they claim hiphop is, (not in a way to help and uplift, but to exploit and degrade). As this campaign continue to move forward,(Go Obama) we are going to see…how fear..is going to breed ignorance. Were going to be forced to take off the mask of pleasentries and deal with whats really going on in our society. Racisim is still very much alive and growing. Just because a black man Running, doesnt make it stop. I think we need to take it retro, back in the 50′ s and 60’s. We stuck together and fought for the causes we believed in. We were organized and uniformed about social injustice. (though im an eighties baby) I had a grandma and great grandmother. Who told me of the times, and what we had endured. We have to get that hunger back unite, for change.
Im game, Are you?
Ok..lol
My 2 cents….

I respect Kanye West for what he is doing and I often think people misrepresent his sincerity for cockiness. He will tell it like it is and act like it is including when people wrong him and when he feels that certain things should be done. Here is a man that is real with himself and oftentimes people can not handle realness. So I say props to you Mr. West for going out there and trying to make a difference. And be the inspiration that you are always!!!
