In response to the social commentary, as a wife and mother of a 9 year old young daughter, I don’t rely on or allow music videos or any other external imagery to shape my daughter’s views on herself. Nor does she look to that to define herself. We, as in US as a “people” need to take more responsibility for our own and stop blaming every external factor possible on the fact that we are self-destructive. I certainly am not saying that videos such as this and the media and aaaall of the many industries don’t play a part. The question and fact of the matter is, how big of a part will you allow them to play in your life and in the lives of your loved ones? Sidebar: My hubby and I barely allow our daughter to watch music videos. That’s us taking responsibility for our own.

So, I am also concerned about what my neighbor’s child is viewimg or listening to on the radio and TV. Lisa…I feel you. It certainly takes a village to raise a child but the rearing starts at home. My daughter has such a strong foundation at home that regardless of what she sees, she knows who she is. She is shielded from nothing - we simply don’t allow her to constantly watch imageries and have it marinate in her psyche. Hence, my using the word ‘barely’. We are frank and upfront with her about anything her beautiful mind can conjure to ask us. I studied Psych with a minor in Sociology so I certainly am aware of the statistics and implications and I don’t refute them. What is unanimously agreed upon is the fact that the proper foundation of love, self-esteem and self-worth at home combats external factors. My daughter knows who she is because we teach her. I tell the kids of my friends, and my nieces and nephews the same things I tell my daughter. I even talk to my 15 year old sis-in-law about these things. Yes, stars, celebrities and such have a responsibility. You just can’t leave it up to them.

Jason PREACH! I mean seriously it’s JUST a video. And it’s not like Ashanti woke up and said let me degrade women. THE DIRECTOR, who by the way is a FEMALE, came up with the concept and it worked with the song. Lmao Ashanti doesn’t even do anything sleezy or revealing in the video so wth? PLEASE let this BE ANY other female and the shit would of gotten praised. Lil Wayne has a video with HALF NAKED ass girls in “Lollipop”. The song/video went straight to #1 on 106 & Park, TRL and went straight to the top of the billboard charts. Now that’s a perfect example of degrading women. Every GIRL including the ones who made a comment on here, was singing that song. Yung Berg made RACIST comments about dark skinned women, yet his video is still being played on BET and is still on 106’s countdown. So PLEASE stop the hypocrisy. Give the women a break. If you don’t like her or her music that’s fine, but to make ignorant ass comments and then continue on and on about it, is old and it’s sad. Instead of sticking behind our black women or our race in general, we sit there and criticize them for every little thing and then wonder why we can’t get ahead in society today.
