♫ ALBUM REVIEW: LLOYD - LESSONS IN LOVE ♫
Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Lloyd released his new album, Lessons In Love today, August 5th. The R&B crooner had a great round last time with his sophomore album, Street Love, so I’m glad that he kept going and got this album out.
Lloyd made his first splash onto the scene with his single, “Southside,” featuring Ashanti. His first album, of the same title, dropped in 2004 and released two singles. Although it was an impressive effort, Lloyd left his real imprint in 2007, with the singles “You,” featuring fan favorite Lil’ Wayne and the hugely infectious “Get It Shawty!” produced by Usher’s little brother, James Lackey. This is when Lloyd proved his staying power. He needed a new single for his new album that was really going to match that song’s intensity. When “How We Do It In the A,” featuring Ludacris dropped as a buzz single, I was little disappointed. But Lloyd gained my confidence back when he dropped the Lil’ Wayne featured “♫ Girls Around the World.” I knew he was onto something.
The rest of the material that began to leak from Lessons In Love was really intriguing me. The new project was shaping up to be a mature third effort, with great production and wonderful vocal delivery. Although Lloyd isn’t known for belting, Lessons In Love is the perfect canvas for his his soft falsetto.
Lloyd taps Bryan-Michael Cox, Tricky Stewart & The Dream and Polow Da Don to bring us myriad of mid-tempos that are sure to teach you a little something about finessing a situation. I think that this time around, Lloyd has shown a since of maturity that wasn’t necessarily present on his first two albums, and has given us near immaculate vocal delivery. The songs are believable and solid. Stand out tracks include the songs mentioned above, as well as the third single, “Year of the Lover,” and the J. Lack-produced, “I’m Wit It.”
Check out Lloyd on MySpace and show him some good CL love, considering that he’s done the same for us. And make sure you pick up your copy of Lessons In Love, online and in stores today!

Am I first? Well ok then. Im really feeling LLoyd. When he came out first with ashanti, i just thought “corny.” But im loving his 2nd effort (street love) still and this album sounds like its shaping up to be the same. Loving “Girls all around the world”

I liked the album.. For one I’m glad stayed in house and did most of the production with his crew “Street Love” they aren’t as polished as the BMC’s, Powlows (ghost producers) or Eric Hudson but they have a nice simple sound that suits Lloyd well and Its nice that he didn’t let all the usual suspects do the whole album, making in no different than 95 % of the rest of the R&B albums out there. The less Clutch the better !
Now Eric Hudson is a BEAST and delivered a nice song in Treat U Good. The producer Oak,(I can change your life) just seems to do the same track over and over again. This sounds like anything from the Stearling Simms leaks or the last Mario Album.. Mr. BMC changed up a little on “Year of the Lover”…actually it sounded like a left over Day 26 track.
In my opinion my boy J-Lack…(Ushers baby bro) .ONCE AGAIN….had the best track and song on the album.. Sounds like he could submit a track or two for MJ..
Speaking of MJ, I like Lloyd..he “reminds” you of MJ but has his own voice.. and he’s come a long way from the skinny dude in the video with Ashanti to were he is today. He just needs to leave the big name producers alone.. ALL THEY DO IS REHASH THE SAME TRACK OVER AND OVER AGAIN FROM PROJECT TO PROJECT MAKING R&B ONE BIG BLUR.
His best songs… “I’m Wit It” and Get it Shorty” come from a teenage producer.. SAD

I haven’t gotten a chance to preview the album yet, but I’m really impressed by the tracks Brian posted. All of them are fire. The first two are single worthy. If the rest of his album has heat like this, I’ll support it.
ALL THEY DO IS REHASH THE SAME TRACK OVER AND OVER AGAIN FROM PROJECT TO PROJECT MAKING R&B ONE BIG BLUR.
^^^
That statement is so true. That’s why R&B has gotten so stale. You could say the same for hip hop, with the exception of a few rappers.

I became a convert after the last album I was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED….”Get it Shawty” was the jam….it deserved to blow up…I know it was on all the radio stations over her…..All the songs I have heard of this recent effort have been brilliant….what I like about Lloyd is that he knows his voice…and knows the songs that suit him..take for example the song both he and Sterling Simms did..Lloyld made that song his own..I was blown away and had it on heavy rotation…He needs to upgrade his marketing team because he has the look and the sound…seriously he deserves to do well…i find him so much more interesting than Chris Brown..not too take anything from CB but he seems stale and so much older than he is….
I wish Lloyd all the best with this effort but I fear it wont sell many units as the promotion has not been that great….

Well, I hate his voice and hate his music. I only like one song from him and that’s “Girls Around The World”. He’s VERY unattractive to me, but I adore his hair. And his album cover = not cute.

I just bought it and I’m listening to it for the first time right now, I’m on the tail end of “Lose Your Love”. I’m really feeling it. Street Love is flawless, so he had alot to live up too. And I’m not disappointed!

Sounds like it will do well, I just can’t get into the promo pics and album pictures. I did vote for the album cover, but they did not say lessons in love….either way the music is solid, and that is what counts

awww…Lloyd won me over with Street Love. I actually liked This Is How We Do it in the A, and Heart Attack is my jam too. The overall cd is a winner and as long as he keeps dropping solid albums, I’ll support him!

All 3 of those songs are hot. I was surprised, didn’t think he could outdo his first cd. His vocals even got better. I might have to get this.
He should’ve used that pic with the heart as his album cover. Isn’t it titled ”lessons in love”? It looks natural, and orginal. The real album cover looks forced.

Lloyd never disappoints with his sexy self. I have been feelin him since his Southside days. There were lots of good jams on Southside but Gotti’s legal woes hurt his artists. However, Lloyd kept it going and it is paying off. I love his silky sexy tenor and of course his exotic looks and long hair don’t care. I hope he finally gets the props that are long overdue. He is much better than most of the artists out there. He ought to be on the cover of Ebony magazine alongside of C-Breezy. I think this CD will finally put him over the top.

I love this young man’s music. He is totally underrated. I hope he continues giving good music and don’t give up. The music industry is a beast these days.

I picked up “Lessons In Love” yesterday and the whole CD is FIYAH!!! This CD really showcases Lloyd’s amazing vocal abilities and he shows us much more of his sexy, sensual side with tracks like “Year Of The Lover”,”Party All Over Your Body” and “Have My Baby”. The “Streetlove” CD sealed LLoyd’s image as a ladies man but LLoyd has really stepped up his game on “Lessons In Love” and has now boiled over into Hotsville since he traded his signature long braids for the silky, loooooong tresses he sported in “His Girls Around The World” video. I wish Lloyd had sported his “long and silky” look for the CD’s cover too

I’m really feelin Lloyd this time around. Street Love was really solid but the production of this album is much improved and surprisingly very good. I’m glad he stuck with his in-house producers as well. They did a great job. Although I must say I haven’t gotten past the first 5 songs cuz I keep listenin to them in the car! Great CD Lloyd!
