Solange Knowles has exclusively sent Concrete Loop her new “freestyle”, a Dear John to the big wigs at the labels. She did it over Kanye West’s “Everything I Am” and here is what she said about the song on her blog, HADLEY STREET JOURNAL:
“Unfortunately I’m in an industry where diversity is not celebrated the way it should be. When some people see and hear something different it feels foreign to them and they don’t like that. Everyone has a choice of what they like and that’s a beautiful thing! But record labels, managers, publicist, journalist, media etc… have a tendency to see something work and try to reciprocate that with another artist thinking that’s what makes success. To me what makes success is letting people be truly who they are.
When I heard Kanye’s ‘Everything I Am,’ I instantly fell in love. I felt my story somewhere in his. I felt his frustration yet acceptance of who he was. So I decided to put my own little twist on it!”

This is the first time I listened to of any of her work since her song long ago with Bow Wow. She has a sweet voice. I don’t know if it’s Kanye’s beat that pushes this song for her but I like it. Maybe I should check out some of her other work…

WHO CARES!!! Solange is just trying to get all the attention that she needs to get the next best check for her upcoming album.
People need to get smart and listen to the celebrities music through youtube and take advantage of concreteloop along with the other sites that allow you to preview music. If you want to help people succeed. Support the ones that need the extra help and help yourself stay out of debt. The Knowles and Carters are already past success and overly rich. Get smart and stop idolizing people to the point that they make you broke and hinder the chances of creating wealth within your own families and communities. Our black community is in shambles and blind for the sake of someone eles’s riches.

I was feeling Solange’s new song, but she is coming off pretty obnoxious. That freestyle is so immature and self absorbed. Especially considering there is nothing incredibly unique about Solange’s look or sound. There are so many truly unique underground artist working hard to put out quality music independently. Solange didn’t exactly have to claw her way into music industry thanks to her sister success so forgive me if her rant is lost on me. She would be well served to exercise a little humility. AGREED!!!! Solange is JUST as talented as Beyonce! I think Beyonce is more impressive vocally, but that is not all that being an ARTIST is about. It’s about every facet of the craft, yet sadly we’re in an age where people no longer think creativity is talent. Solange is a better writer and storyteller (I list that separately because while storytelling consists of writing, it’s also the performances and the image…and the IMAGINATION) than her sister, in my opinion.
Solange is expressing herself through her music people, I’m sure all of us have wanted to say things but didn’t know how to say it or didn’t because we were worried about what other people where going to think, And I’m also sure some of us have brothers and sisters maybe even best friends who people compare us to or SECOND us in line to them, just because they came first, so just be OPEN MINDED about her freestyle. Shes talented, pretty and determined to make her MARK in the industry let her do her, REMEMBER your criticism will only make her more famous, she really don’t need to freestyle, I think we talk about her enough…..
