With all the sadness that happened this weekend, it great to finally post some positive news.
24 year-old Cullen Jones (along with Jason Lezak, Michael Phelps, Garrett Weber-Gale) took home Gold on Monday, during the 4X100m freestyle relay swimming final. Jones, who helped set the new world record in the event, is only the 3rd black person to ever make the Olympic swim team. Congrats to Cullen and the Relay team.
In related news, Jones has funneled his love for swimming into a cause for him. He currently assists the USA Swimming Foundation’s ‘Make A Splash’ Program in helping minorities learn how to swim.

I watched the amazing race last night I was surprised they won because the French were heavily favored to win. Take that France taking about they were going to crush the Americans.
@Dame that race was so good they kept on playing over and over again. Im so happy for this men he made history. We can learn alot and achieve alot from this man and other black strong men and women in this world. GO USA.
That was a great race lastnite. I was screaming for them to win and it was so close, but I’m happy and they set a new world record too! Take that France. They will learn not to speak too early next time.
I swear I was screaming at the TV. When that French dude with the scar said that mean thingy about the crushing the US thang and all thang and all.. I was like.. TAKE THAT (diddy style) MEAN FRENCH MAN.. you are a dewdie head.lol
but on the real. I love when someone brings cake for their own premature celebration, only to go home wearing it!!!
Now I am looking forward to the Track, Men’s gymnastics, Shawn Johnson (ladies gymnastics) portion of the games…!!!

I’m sooo glad they won! I’m especially proud of Cullen, he’s trying to encourage more African Americans to go into swimming. (& he’s cute too!)
They said Cullen is the second African American to ever win a gold medal and the 3rd african american to be an olympic swimmer. Talk about making some history.

it was amazing. i was jumping up & down and screaming lezak CHASED bernard down in the last 50 m. he swam in 46:06 which is record-breaking (but doesn’t actually count as a real record). i think the actual record is 47 something. but anyway i’m so happy for phelps. i want him to reach his goal so badly. and congrats to cullen. he seems like one of the most down-to-earth guys in sports.
to be fair to the french, everyone in sports talks smack about others. and remember the USA basketball team and how they messed up in the last olympics. that was pretty embarrassing for the US

yeah mon-the race was great a true classic!! thanks to da french 4 talkin’ sh*t which comes w/ competition but that definitely added fuel for an upset. i was yelling @ the tv-regardless school started 2day i was caught up and in a zone. cullen jones commercial was great as well when he said he hear his mom cheering 4 him in his head-his mom gotta b proud!!! what about the american chick-hoff who got silver when shorty from another country swam her as$ down & took da gold.i felt sorry for ol girl though b/c she was so close. i am actually impressed w/ all the competition i have saw thus far-cats are really battling!!!

Cullen has some webbed feet and hands, that was one of the most incredible feets I’ve seen in Sports. That’s what’s so amazing about the Olympics, and let me say the opening ceremony was incredible. The Chinese put on a show of the likes I’ve never seen before.

Yesterday, a friend of mine (who is not black) said that a black male told her that black men couldn’t swim because their bone density makes them sink. That is the stupidest crap i’ve ever heard in my life!!! Africans were swimmers before they were slaves. I’m glad we have great black people like Cullen Jones, Tiger Woods, Serena and Venus Williams participating and succeeding in sports that were once deemed “white sports.” Makes me proud that we are taking new ground every day and rising above negative stereotypes. The Chinese put on the best Olympic opening show that I have ever seen. That show was beyond words, they definitely set the bar extremely high for the next host of the Olympic games. They did that!!

That race tied with Kerri Shrug doing her vault with a twisted ankle(1996) as the most exciting event I have ever watched during the olympics.
My son is on our local aquanauts team and he is the only black child in his age group. I’m from the Caribbean so everybody I know loves to swim. This “black folks dont swim” thing does not register with me.
I cant wait for track and field!
I am also glad they let him swim in the relay race because he was competing with four three others for the spot. TEAM USA ALL DAY

I would also like to send an extra congratulations to Cullen for realizing another one of his dreams. I just read that due to such an impressive and record breaking win, Bank of America is going to fund the Cullen Jones Tour, which is a series of clinics and swim meets that Cullen is organizing in order to promote more children from minority backgrounds to get in the pool.

It is messed up when USA athletes cheat with steroids, but the USA swim team is clean..
i was cheering when Lezak started catching up and hollered when he won by 46 seconds!! It was awesome, especially after the girls lost by (i think) 26 seconds. So what a good comeback.
