Serena Williams, who is currently over in China for the Summer Olympics has been doing her thing this year. After winning numerous sports titles, Men’s Fitness names her as one of the ‘sexiest female athletes in the world.
In the September issue of Men’s Fitness, she says that she doesn’t think twice about being given this title. She’s a tennis athlete first and foremost. “I have large boobs and a sizable a**, so I guess the title comes with the territory. But I just play tennis. I always try to look my best, even though it’s hard to look your best when you’re sweating, grunting, and making faces. I never look my best when playing.” The September issue of Men’s Fitness hits newsstands August 18th nationwide.

On finding guys who can keep up with her fitness level…
“I’m attracted to guys who are really athletic, so it’s never a problem. To be honest, I absolutely hate working out, I hate going to the gym. I do it only ’cause it’s my job, and I think about it like, OK, other people’s jobs are to go to the office nine to five, and my job is to go the gym and look sexy. That’s the only thing that gets me through it.”
On her favorite physical part of her body…
“I love my smile. My smile and my cleavage. [Laughs] I think they go really well together.” [Laughs]
On guys being intimidated to date her because of her athletic status…
“It definitely makes it harder, which is not really cool because I”m like the girl next door. My attitude is so relaxed and so chill, and what you see is what you get. I guess sometimes people get intimidated, not by my being Serena Williams, but just more or less by the things that I’ve accomplished and the things that I might have in my life. I think for any woman who is strong and supports herself, that tends to be a problem.”
On what she looks for in a guy…
“I’m a sucker for gentlemen, I’m old fashioned. I’m a girl who believes that a guy should take the lead. They should open doors, close doors. I also look for someone who has a good relationship with their mom. My mom always said, ‘Look for someone whom you can laugh with, ’cause it means you can have fun with that person.’ ”
On major turnoffs…
“Guys should never grab me. I hate when guys grab girls. I think it’s so rude. I’ve been grabbed numerous times. Don’t touch. I”m not your property. I absolutely hate that.”
On what she’d be doing if not playing tennis…
“I love acting and writing, so I would probably either be a struggling actress or a writer.”

Ok I don’t comment often but I have to say something here. Now, I think that Serena and Venus are great tennis players….but they have said that they could not vote in the upcoming presidential election because they are Jehovah’s Witnesses. Is it just me or does JW celebrities just pick and choose what they stand for. Wouldn’t being dressed in a seductive manner go against that same doctrine you claim to hold dear. I’m not a JW but I can’t believe you won’t vote in the first black president but you will lay on a couch with your butt in the air in a bathing suit.

Well in this statement Serena said that she would not vote in the election because as a JW they do not get involved in political affairs, they remain neutral because its not about GOD. I also have a friend who is a JW and she said relatively the same thing. I’m not well versed on all of their doctrine …..but I do know some things that they will not do. I just find it odd that you hold firm on voting and will ignore that we could possibly make history and have our first black president (something I never thought I would see in my lifetime) but you can take booty shots (lol)

But #10 has an excellent point. My man of 10 months is Christian, but his Mom is a JW and raised him that way. He is 25 and has never voted. He’s intelligent and open-minded and I have talked to him relentlessly about the importance of voting in this election… being a registered voter period and his response is that voting is like choosing a politician (man) over God.
I can’t stand his Mammy, it’s like she’s brainwashed him. She, by the way, is a staunch JW and has been sleeping with a married man for 14 years..

I think that Serena looks simply gorgeous in these photos, but I believe that she would be more stunning without alot of the airbrushing and photoshopping. On a different note, what I found more interesting is her interview. The questions about her favorite body part was a bit much, and contradicted the validity of the more important questions. But from some of her responses one can conclude that she is a self-respecting, strong black woman, who carries herself with that same worth.
On her political stance, it’s regrettable, but it’s her prerogative. It is amazing that we all might live to see a black, educated, and overall decent man take office; but just because she is black, does not mean that she is obligated to vote for Barack Obama. Please don’t get me wrong, I definitely voted for Barack, but I subscribe to the school of thought that the world is diverse and the African-American community is equally diverse. We’re diverse in shade, size, religion, and beliefs – and her choice is indicative of that.
Additionally, I think that a lot of people are giving themselves a badge of honor for voting for Barack, which in terms of the political process is fantastic for our country, but in terms of our day to day life does not change who we are one way or another. There are people who voted for Barack one day, and robbed someone the next. We shouldn’t hold ourselves to a certain standard based on who we voted for alone, we must also take it upon ourselves to improve the black experience for ourselves and our peers; and in that sense Serena and Barack are definitely worthy of such honor.
So we shouldn’t be quick to persecute Serena for being a religious black woman proud of her body, nor should we penalize her for her religious beliefs despite how politically adverse it may be.
Do black men read Men’s Fitness magazine? *crickets*
