Keri Hilson’s debut album, In A Perfect World…, originally slated for September 23rd release has been pushed back. The debut from thei singer/songwriter is now October 7th. I have to admit, I’m a little disappointed, but everything happens for a reason. I’m sure Mosley Music Group/Zone 4 and Interscope just want everything right for the release of the project. I hope this doesn’t happen again, ’cause it’s been a long time coming for Keri.
RIHANNA SCORES #1 WITH “DISTURBIA”
Rihanna has snagged her fourth #1 spot on the Billboard chart with her pop/dance hit, “Disturbia.” Admittedly, I hated the song at first, but after the video, I got hooked. According to Nielsen Soundscan, the track jumped from #3 to #1 this week, surpassing boyfriend Chris Brown’s “Forever” which is still riding high, remaining at #2 for a second week on the charts.
I’m not hating, but it’s funny to me that 3 out of 4 of Rihanna’s #1 singles all came from her latest album, Good Girl Gone Bad, even after releasing two albums (Music of the Sun and A Girl Like Me) just a couple of years before. It really just goes to show that after this “image change,” people completely forgot about Rihanna’s dancehall/Reggae roots and really have clung to this trendy, pop image.
I really wish that Rihanna would have saved “Disturbia” for the first single from her fourth album. I think that sound and video would have been a really good way to reintroduce herself. She probably just couldn’t wait, so she dropped it on Reloaded.
USHER PREPS 2 NEW SINGLES
Looks like your boy Usher is doing everything in his power to keep his latest LP, Here I Stand afloat. After the single “Moving Mountains,” we haven’t heard much from him, but it seems as though he is dropping two new singles at the same time.
Although it was previously reported that “His Mistakes” was the forthcoming third single from the project, radio is being serviced with the album’s title track, “Here I Stand,” as well as the Prince-influenced “Trading Places.”
I actually like the song “Trading Places,” regardless of how silly I think the lyrics are. I think it’ll be a good move for him to release that, just not sure if it will revive the album. I can see it getting radio spins.
It has been rumored, too, that Usher has already begun recording a new album, and that it will be more up-tempo than the lukewarm Here I Stand release.

they feelin us out with these singles, albums gettin pushed back so much because of sales and radio plays aren’t what they used to be. People downloading, myself included, radio people playing favorites and brainwashing with all these mainstream artists, back in the day we used to hear west coast, east coast, north and south music, but nowadays you may hear mostly southern and northern music (unless it’s hit the big mainstream) and I stay in the southeast …you know Joe said R kelly was telling people (radio people) not to play his music…the industry is very dirty…

KERI – With or without the writing credits, she’s very overrated. I mean she’s pretty and has the look, but I think that she’s too commercial for me. I may get ran out of CL for this but I love The Jonas brother song Burning Up I listen to it on The Disney Channel with my god children. They are huge on the Disney channel and the girls love them they have been all over t.v. this week.
I haven’t been checking for Keri too much. I think she writes some good music at times, however her voice does nothing for me. Hopefully she can get it together for her release. I’m sure she has osme fans out there. I do like her on the Nas hook though.
Rihanna…interesting. I also agree with you Brian about how none of her singles from her past two albums went to number one. Noone was checking for her, except for a few dance hits. So what does she do? Sell her soul, cut her hair, and start taking on a rock image that’s completely NOT her. I can understand artists change, but they generally keep most parts of their signature sound/look. Now all of a sudden she change sher hair, outfits, and is selling? It just goes to show how fickle the public can be. Other artists get by on MERIT, by their VOICE. And their albums continuously crank out number one hits from the beginning. They keep the same hairstyles, change up the themes for the albums and STILL sell, albums not SELLOUT. Noone checks for her performances of those same songs, because they are all the same,; and her voice shows no growth. Humming on a tune, doesn’t equal being able to sing to me. Stylish she is, an entertainer, singer, not. Connections and stylists do wonders. People will find her out someday, until then songs that can’t even be performed live, or make no since will continue to be number one.

I personally feel Rhi and Ashanti are on the same level. Neither are naturally talented singers, but sell an image.
I can sing all their songs with no problems. They are what you would call in the bathroom voice singers….NOT too talented…but they do sell an image.

We all know you cant shift albums like you used to. Rather than selling 3m copies- u sell 3 mill in digital sales and ringtones and have 40mill hits on youtube. It is what it is. Even a great album like Nas’s didnt sell like Usher’s or Lil Wayne’s.

Wasn’t SOS a big hit on rihanna’s second album. Anyway, people are always saying rihanna changed her image and is fake. What is so hard in understanding that the girl could honestly like different genre’s of music, and that not because she first came out with dancehall/pop she had to stick with it. Some people just like experimenting with different sounds and music . I can hardly call that a crime. Also when you are in the music business, you do have to change your style and image ever so often, to connect with your fans, and not seem too predictable and boring. The girl is still young, so it is okay if she is still trying to find what works best for her. Leave her alone, she is blessed and if she is destined for success, no hater can change that.
