MICHELLE SPEAKS ON ALBUM PUSH-BACK
Michelle Williams, former Destiny’s Child bandmate is speaking out about her album push-back. She doesn’t seem too pleased. But then again, why would she? She reference’s Solange’s song, “F*ck the Industry (Signed Sincerely),” so, yeah, that should tell you something. The singer’s third solo project, Unexpected, which is a departure from her other gospel projects, has been pushed back from an August 12th release to drop on October 9th.
This is very unfortunate, considering that a lot of the material from Unexpected has already leaked. Michelle has a pretty solid project to deliver, so I hope this doesn’t mess anything up with her.
CASSIE’S ALBUM DUE OUT EARLY ’09
Bad Boy has exclusively revealed to our good friends at Rap-Up.com that Cassie’s sophomore album, which is still untitled, is set to drop early next year, when we were previously promised a fall release. I think that’s what’s best, considering that “Official Girl” didn’t jump off as they’d hoped.
A sneak peek clip of the “Official Girl” video, featuring Lil’ Wayne, will debut on MTV’s FNMTV on August 22nd. I’m glad, but meanwhile, they need to be choosing a second single for Cassie to keep the buzz going, considering these Diddy relationship rumors haven’t even been able to keep her afloat.

Didn’t her single get leaked months ago, and the album has been done for months so why hasn’t the promotion began yet. Why a few weeks before the album they tell her this? Why didn’t her manager Mr. Knowles stay on top of the record company and the marketing team. It’s his job to monitor them and make sure his artists are receiving everything within contract. I like Michelle’s song “Break the Dawn”. I really think it’s good and is radio-worthy. Of course, I thought the same thing about Kelly’s last album, especially that song “Comeback”, that was a hot track and I NEVER heard it on the radio. I don’t know if Matthew Knowles is managing Michelle and Kelly’s careers, but if I was them, I would be looking for someone else to promote my work. Don’t get me wrong, Beyonce is the sh*t and has that star power, but I think her father put a lot more into her career than the others. BEFORE ANY ONE GOES TALKING THAT SHIT, what’s happening to Michelle is the same thing that happened to Kelly. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MATHEW KNOWLES. Music World, which Mathew has to run aside from Managing duties, MANAGES A LOT OF GROUPS AND SOLO ARTISTS – Destiny’s Child, Beyonce, Kelly, Michelle, Trini Tee 5:7, Lyfe Jennings, Johnny Cash (yes, still in death), etc. Check the roster at http://www.musicworldent.com/artists. What he does is WHAT ALL Record Execs and Managers do with a roster of artists – THEY ASSIGN TEAMS OF SUB MANAGERS to artists/groups. Unfortunately, when you’re not a top dawg like Mathew, L.A. Reid, Benny Medina, etc. or a top artist like Beyonce, Jay-Z, etc., it’s hard to get your artists on shows. Mathew was doing Solange because she was first up (and his daughter) while the sub was doing Michelle – even though he does manage all 4 (Bey, Solo, Mich, Kels). It’s like you’re heading a project at work, but since it’s a lot of work, you delegate certain people to handle certain jobs, but it’s your overall responsibility. What will happen is what happened with Kelly – the subs didn’t do a good enough job and Mathew will step in 3-4 weeks before the album drops to pump her as much as possible by getting her on t.v. shows (she said she’s doing The Morning Show), etc. to give her album the needed push before it comes out. It’s a decision made by Music World, but not directly Mathew’s fault – more of a business decision. He assigned them their teams, but the teams either didn’t grind hard enough or did the best they could with the reach they had. Michelle clearly sounds disappointed at the push back and is clearly choosing her words carefully, but at the same time, it doesn’t seem like she has a problem with Mathew – it’s more with the company that has more than just Mathew making the decisions, but I’m sure he has a lot of weight and say. I think it’s best to push it back too. It’s only a 2 week difference and to come out on Solo’s heels, who’s bringing heat, will only overshadow Michelle who’s lukewarm but #1 on the dance/club chart along with Solo still being #1 on two charts.
It’s up to you people to support her when the album comes out. Kelly didn’t get the support in sales, but yet everyone was like what happened. What happened is you didn’t buy her album! You know they’re dropping an album, so make sure you pick it up and not download it.

Thank you for that breakdown because it makes much sense. You proved exactly what people were saying, but had a few facts wrong. “Mathew was doing Solange because she was first up (and his daughter) while the sub was doing Michelle – even though he does manage all 4 (Bey, Solo, Mich, Kels). ” Michelle was actually first in line because her album was done first, but you were correct in saying the key term which was “his daughter.” Why didn’t she get the subs if she was 2nd in line? How come Bey didn’t get the subs and Kelly did eventhough Kelly’s album was done before Beys? Getting her on those shows is just a way to keep Michelle’s mouth closed to me. By the time Oct. come which is nearly 2 months after her original release come, Beys single will be out and pushed all over radio stations and Michelle’s album will end up like Kelly’s. Yes it is up to the consumers to buy, but if the consumer has no knowledge of the album or no hype over it then they will not buy it. If pepsi didn’t have so many commercials they wouldn’t sell even if people loved it because not enough people would know about it. It’s all about marketing which is one of the most important things in the industry besides timing. Both Michelle’s marketing and now timing will be terribly off.

Number 47 pretty much got it. Haven’t you realized that certain songs are constantly played on the radio. There are some songs where I’m like this is garbage and it sells because it is played so often. How is that? Many of the radio stations have ties to conglomerates that have multiple record labels under them. Therefore, the DJs really don’t have a say in what to play. They just play what is given. If the record company never gives the song to the DJ then how can the public hear it? The major companies want fast money for the quarter goals which means they are going to push what they deem marketable ie Justin Timberlake and Beyonce. So basically, JT and Bey can put out garbage songs, which they both have and still get a ridiculous amount of spins which will bascially force the music down the publics throat.
As a fan, I think she needed to push back. Her name isn’t out there that much yet. I didn’t even know her album was even coming out this soon.
She needs to put on a publicity stunt or something cause her album execs are right.
