♫ NEW MUSIC: JAY-Z’S “JOCKIN’ JAY-Z”

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

jay.jpg

JAY-Z - JOCKIN’ JAY-Z (produced by Kanye West)

A little while ago, we posted a Timbaland-produced track entitle “Ain’t I?” that was produced by Timbaland, and rumors swarmed that the new song was coming from Jay-Z’s new album, The Blueprint 3. Although it was just a fluke, and the track was previously recorded, Jay-Z announced that he is, in fact, releasing a new album, titled The Blueprint 3.

Here’s his new track, “Jockin’ Jay-Z,” which he premiered last week at Kanye West’s Madison Square Garden show. The track is produced by Kanye, and it also seems that Jay-Z has tapped his labelmate and mentee to helm production over the album.

Thanks to our homies at NahRight.com for the mp3!

Check out Jay-Z on MySpace and be on the look-out for more information on his new album.

1* I give you absolutely right! Jay deserves every respect and I hope his new album will sell 1 million first week! I hope Timabaland produces the album as well, Timbo makes good tracks for other people and kanye just for himself. So, I hope the production team will be Timbo, Mark Ronson, Sweaz beatz etc.
>
Can’t wait for the album! Does anyone know if there will be a Heart of the City DVD!

New VIBE Cover is also dope! Best magazine this year so far.

BOOOOO!!! I really need Hov to exit stage left, to the left…everything he’s rappin’ is stale and wack….to the left, to the left

Who’s house….it’s still Run’s house.

I’m Dead Gone

and how long must we have this discussion little boys and girls….NAS is the greatest rapper and that’s why he blew Sean Carter out the water when Sean tried to test him over the radio. in the words of pac “all these old rappers looking like a camel and sick…..it’s all over take it like a man”

I heard this song on the radio this morning & I like it! It sounds like something from the 80’s. Something u can do The Wop to…all my 80’s babies know all about that dance..lol.

Thats a nice pic of Jay.

Good but certainly not the best rapper. This album will do just like the other ones…start out big and then fizzle around 1.3 million. That’s respectable, he should be happy.

Go ahead Jay. Nice track, it bring me back to a time when rap had that authentic quality. Can’t wait for BP3.

To all the people saying Jay should sit down, exit, or whatever word for quit you want to use, you should STFU. Why don’t you tell The Rolling Stones to quit, how about Sting, Tina Turner. He’s a living legend and he’s already proven himself if he wants to put out an album every week he can. Jigga keep doing you boo boo. You and Bee didn’t make the top ten Forbes list for nothing!

I really like Jay Z and I’m a fan of his work for sure, but I don’t like this single! Mabey it has to grow on me, but at this point I think he’s trying to hard to be different . . . And it just doesn’t work. I miss the Big Pimpin days . . . .

Truth be told

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 /

Genius?! What defines the man as a genius? To me he cannot rap… You’re a 40 year old man (damn near) and you still dress like a 20 year old… just stop it… not feeling the song… and even if I was I would not buy the entire album, nowadays it just isn’t worth it… Also, Jay Z use to sell drugs for a living last time I checked that isn’t a genius that is a person feeding off of the helpless…. He just needs to get into something else, I mean honestly people what can he rap about…he’s married now? At least with Pac he rapped about other things, life, death, things happening in the world, he was not restricted to just one aspect of life like Jay Z is…Jay Z should try to go back to school, I mean he cannot rap all his life about the same sh*t… he tried being the President of Def Jam and we see by not having an education did for him with that position…Honestly, Jay Z got nothing else, no one really wears his clothing line or his sneakers…he cannot act because truth be told he isn’t good looking (in my opinion), 50 Cent face is an a**hole but at least he’s cute…we’ll all see in a few years that it’ll be Mrs. Carter paying the bills, bills, bills…

Educate the mind, feed the soul

@ 12, no whats even worse is that on the unecessary and not as hot as Kanye’s Put On verse he’s still bringing up the whole Prodigy/MJ Summer Jam thing. Jigga, that isht is OLD as hell, LOL, I’m talking what 5, 6 years ago? LMAO

30.

kaykay

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 /

the beats okay, i guess whats old is new is where its at. i really hope this isn’t going to be an 80s concept album. that would be totally whack seeing as though the 80s have been “in” for like 6 years now-WTD?

@22

..What does it matter if he sold drugs as a child? thats his past and right now hes making money so no matter what u like or dont like, hes still making money as we speak, as the haters increase, his money increases when fires back. Jay-z is intelligent he doesn’t talk about his relationship and hes good at it. Even if the album didnt make a lot of money, it’s still money is it not? As you say he raps the same stuff, SO he’s still getting love from his fans and money is still filling his pockets. go tell him how much you dont like him and dont be surprised if he gives you a shout on his next track. Not everyone that famous is gonna look cute, thats what the stupid media does to you, gives you this whole image that everyone is supposed to have…whatever. 50 cent is ugly as hell ahah.

HEART OF THE CITY AND THE GLOW IN THE DARK TOUR ARE THE BEST EXPERIENCES EVER!

Jay Z style is fresh no matter what he’s rockin’ Suits and shoes or jeans and sneakers. Who says you can’t where sneakers after a certain age? come on thats just ridiculous! My husband is 36 and he still wears sneakers from time to time and he looks good doing it too!!!

Jay dissed Prodigy again because he said something about him before he went to jail.

Jay does his thing no matter most people commenting probably don’t have all Jay cds and only know the singles from the radio. He gets deeps and personal on alot of his cds.

people always wants to bring up his past but he is beyond that now and he has managed to do a lot of positive thing in his life. No one has lead a perfect life and has done some thing they are not proud of.

Let me get off my soap box again it is my opinion

oh okay then dame (re. prodigy), i guess it makes sense then. well jay brings up his drug dealer past in literally EVERY song he does so that’s why ppl still bring it up. he brings it up as street cred even though that was well over a decade ago. others bring it up as a fault.

@ kaykay I admit he does talk about it alot but he may feel like that what people wants to hear he tried a different route will Kingdom Come and it wasn’t well recieved. The he back doored with American Gangster about people ate it up.

As a stan of his I think he should try to go on the grown phase of his life and talk about more current things and let the past asat in the past.

47.

kaykay

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 /

yeah dame i guess if that’s what sells then that would make sense. i think it’s more than that tho.

i think he wants to still be considered cool by this stereotypical definition of what a young (not that he is) black man should be into…he’s obviously evolved from ugly shawn from marcy but he’s still proud that he was supposidly such a good drug dealer and it would be hard for him not to be proud of it in this industry b/c current mainstream rap (minus ye and lupe) is about; misogyny, money, luxery items, violence and drugs.

there’s an over all sense of immense insecurity and immaturity centered in this type of rap music to me and every time i hear jay rap about cooking this or bundling that i just roll my eyes-not b/c i hate drug dealers but b/c it’s OLD jigga-we know you’re story; keep your lyrical prowess + ear for ridiculous beats but dig some new ish to talk about-dayum!

he’s ill with metephors, right? why couldn’t “I know” be about a male/female relationship w/out the heron addiction double meaning? and the same w/all other double meaning songs from his umpteenth album focused on drug dealing…

in closing i am and will likely always be a big fan…it’s hard not to like him.

48.

Dame( I loves it)

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 /

I loved talking to you Kaykay we didn’t call each other names and debated with cursing each other out.

I understand his struggle and Ye is one of the best rappers out because he thinks out side the box and better than Weezy (yeah I said it) and that’s why I wish Jay would take the more mature way he is trying to fit into the Weezy market in my opnion and that what’s make him look like a fool.I am 27 and I been listening to Jay since Hard Knock Life I fell in love with him and purchased all his others before and after.

I remember in H to the izzo I thought was a great way to end the drug talk but he didn’t. Oh how I wish he would he is a business man and I don’t think he still rap for greed he does because that is his passion.

I am going to always been a fan too stan let me say it right, but I don’t agree with all the music he puts out but it is still better than half the songs on the radio now.

aww Dame I don’t like fighting with annonymous strangers on blogs either :) i’m 29 and going through my first acknowledged period of internal development/growth/change so with that said i can imagine how challenging if not frightening it would be for Jay to up and flip the script totally–although I totally see the value in reinvention now.

for all the issues i have with him i still love him. vol 3 is like the soundtrack to my college days, the same for the blueprint and grad school. he was the icing on the cake that had me HATING Beyonce from Crazy in Love right until Get Me Bodied dropped, lol…but now I love her and them and i must say loving people is much funner than hating them…

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 /

I don’t understand Jay Z’s motivation, honestly… Why is he still rapping? It isn’t like he needs to…usually when people insist on doing something and it isn’t about the money, it’s about the art. And it would be quite difficult to convince most reasonable people that Jay Z’s recent stuff amounts to art. Anybody heard the “Put On” remix? He’s retrograding himself…and isn’t his whole story about a street kid becoming one of the wealthiest celebs in the world? Okay…so why is he tarnishing it with all this?

@Meeshuhh anyone else who I might have ticked off…

I am not going to get into an arguing blogg but in my opinion he (Jay Z) is not a great rapper… to me a great rapper is when they give you something to think about…Pac sold drugs as well but he came back with the experiences from what he did to tell others hey don’t go down the road I took… what song does Jay Z talk about that in? Pac gave people something to think about…just listen to him rap about “Brenda’s Got A Baby”, “Unconditional Love” hell even “I Get A Around”…Jay Z should not have the status he has because he is always in the media…. It shouldn’t be the years that you spent in the game it should be what you put into the game… which is why you’ll always hear about Pac…if something should happen to Jay Z (God forbid) his legacy will not be where Tupac’s legacy is… Jay Z did his dirt like some have as well, but what does a 40 year man rap, about when he hasn’t been in the streets for about a minute… He even said it himself “I use to beat the block and now I Bee’s the block”…

Society expects a baby to stop sucking on the pacifier after 3; the baby needs to grow up. If that child is still sucking on a pacifier at age 9; we have a problem…

Jay Z needs to man up and stop the non sense of trying to relive his 20’s. Whether he likes it or not, he is a role model, teenagers do buy his music to get his spin on what is cool… Question: why do we support a man who doesn’t support his community? I’m from Bedstuy Jay Z hasn’t been around for a minute, only to do videos ands even then he is surrounded by bodyguards, last time I check if you so loved why the extra beef? Nelly goes to Wal Mart’s to buy things WITHOUT bodyguards…

He portrays something (at least to me) that he is not… Young Buck talks about all the money he has in his songs, but we al know that to not be true, just rewind and listen to him pour out to 50 Cent about how broke he is… it is an image that should not be upheld… Jay Z is not the best and could never be the best… how could he when the best rapper is gone…

Educate the mind, feed the soul

OMG why are people arguing back and forth in the first 5 posts??? Damn, who cares if someone thinks he’s the best rapper alive or the worst! This posts is supposed to be just about the single. Like a lot of people, I got tired of Jay-Z. His last few albums haven’t done as well as his albums from his previous years because he’s already reached the climax of his career and has gotten older. It happens with all the once famous singers/rappers. Why can’t people accept that and why do y’all choose to get on others because they aint feelin the man anymore? Anyway, this track is wack. You can’t dance to it and it really isn’t radio friendly. Rap is going downhill. Hasn’t anyone noticed that yet?

A rapper raps… A actor acts… It’s interesting how a post about a song turns into he needs to stop this or stop that. The man is entitled to retire when he wants too. A lot of people may need to do their research. What he doesn’t give to the community lyrically; he gives back in service. He was one of the first to give to the following: Katrina, Columbine, the water to life campaign in Africa, Team Roc, The Shawn Carter Foundation and I Will Not Lose Campaign.

I’m not a Jay Z stan but of course he can rap.

I don’t understand why people come on here and constantly try to make this man somebody that they want him to be all the people that come on here telling him to hold his wife’s hand ,or dress this way,or talk this way,or rap this way…what the hell!.. half yall don’t even like the man half yall don’t like nothing about dude so why tell him what to do with himself it’s not outta love it’s not to better himself it’s not because you honestly care…it’s out of pure hate

let me let yall IN on something

1.jay is making albums because it’s in his contracts(def jame 1 more album, live nation/roc nation-3 more albums) that he has to make albums he has 4 more albums to make … so the retirement shit is long gone

2.jay is lyrical a very great rapper with over 350 classic songs and 4 classic albums ..he does have introspectives songs there on all and I mean every album all 13, (10 studio albums,3 callabo albums) and all of them have songs like that jay is one of those rapper where you CAN NOT ,can not!! judge him on his singles ..because his albums sound nothing like his singles

3.people snaked him,not the other way around.

@60 So true.

I respect Jay to a certain extent because of the fact that he’s been around for a minute, but with the same breath I dont care too much for his music. A lot of it is the same. The thing that irks me about him is the fact that he still feels the need to brag about his hustling days and make it seem cool. If you are in fact the best rapper alive you wouldn’t have to prove yourself by rapping about the drugs you sold over 15 years ago. Sounds like a little insecurity to me.

We already know what you did back then, be creative, come with something fresh. Most of all stop rapping about crack/cocain. Look what it’s done to our communities, it’s not in the least bit cool. The impressionable youth are the ones who find it cool, and are the ones who will ultimately mimic what you put out to look hot.

Essentially he’s still selling drugs. This time it’s in the form of music. If it’s not uplifting, and or prolific it’s distructive.

LOL…Ya’ll are a trip! I don’t believe anyone is “jocking” Jay Z and even though the title of the subject was Jay Z’s new song, we should still be able to comment about him as a rapper, he does rap right? People are just stating give it up man… try something different…again at a certain age a man has to become a man and same for a woman, or child it’s called LIFE…The swagger is that of a child, mentally he hasn’t grown as a person if you still on the same bs…

Every person has a right to his or her opinions… Again in my opinion Jay Z is not the greatest rapper he is like a Nelly, Nelly don’t rap he talks about girls and break ups… tell me in 20 years who people bump to Jay Z or Pac? I just heard the other day some guy blasting Pac’s “Hail Mary”… I haven’t heard Biggie in about a minute, but people said that he was the greatest rapper but Pac is bumped more than any other artist dead or alive…

Maya, Ashanti, T.I. just to name a few have all said just to on a song with Pac is priceless

If there is no age limit then I guess it would be okay for Diana Ross, Tina Turner, MC Hammer, Teena Marie to all start dressing like in their 20’s and singing and cursing Right? Hell maybe even New Edition should come back and start all over or should they leave their legacy alone and ride on something else?

Its funny b/c people diss Mariah Carey for not acting her age BUT talk about Jay Z and ya’ll start acting crazy…Its just OPINIONS people

I can respect the man’s fans…I didn’t mean to offend, but from where I sit he’s doing nothing new… In fact, everything he’s done recently has really really been subpar. He’s a guy people will pay to see in concert because they remember what he was to them…but what he’s doing now you all will see is going to be his undoing. People want to dance and remember the stuff that was reasonably good…nobody is interested in the guy as some new relevant artist and he’s acting as if they are… I don’t know how it will all go wrong for him, but it will…maybe people will grow bored of his “game,” his trying to push this new shi* off as unique and awesome. The guy has made tons of money and has a certain status in the music world…so why is he frantic and grasping for air in a stream that’s just not flowing backwards?

“I Iet you do you, why you riding my shit?” Hov runs rap, point blank end of discussion.

To whoever it was who said that Jay-Z wasn’t a good rapper, than who the hell do you listen to? Lil Wayne? Jay reigns so God damn hard on these rappers today that it’s not even funny. Lyrically Jay is a monster, but you probably just can’t understand what he’s saying. And how else is he suppose to dress? LL is not a younging but he dresses like he’s 20 too, don’t even get me started on Flavor Flav. Should Jay be wearing highwater pants, with white socks and church shoes because he’s 38? Like, y’all need to get it together, and stop trying to find every little thing to complain about.

Anyways the song was fly, like always. I def will be picking me up the Blueprint 3.

AWW s**T!!!! I cannot wait for Blueprint 3, it’s going to B FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!! and 4 those of u that say Jay-z is NOT the best rapper alive listen to Reasonable Doubt, In My Lifetime Vol1, Vol 2…Hard Knock Life, Vol 3….Life And Times of S. Carter , Dynasty Roc La Familia, Blueprint 1, Blueprint 2 The Gift and the Curse, The Black Album, Kingdom Come, and American Gangster. I mean really sit and LISTEN, analyze and think about what he is actually saying. There are so much more in the lyrics that are much deeper than girls, p***y, guns, money, drugs, cars, liquor, designer clothes, sneakers, etc. I’m not saying he DOESN’T rap about that shit , but there is so much more.

THEN AND ONLY THEN.. can you tell me what you think.

Get off it… there is no “Pac” Stan fan here… I listen to it all from Naughty to DMX, Daz Dillinger, Twista, Nas and the legendry Face…. I just happen to think that enough is enough… give me something more than the same ole bs…you almost 40 Jay Z you got to have some other type of life experiences in there… which is why I wanted to listen to his “new” song to see if there was hope….my fault for being optimistic

Billie Holiday been dead for over 40 yrs and her music still got substance…Where the substance at? It is not an attack on the man (personally), I didn’t say I don’t like him (I gotta know you before I dislike you) I just don’t like the “music” he puts out

Everyone comes out with all their egotistical rap, rhymes and whatever else and HE being the best rapper in the game, that is being JOCKED by YOUR favorite rapper can’t make word play on it? KANYE is the one that came up with the chorus and it’s a sample from a Run DMC song. Get off Jay’z nutz and go hug some other post. This one is being rocked by his fans.

Get off it! Ya’ll act as if no one else can say anything on this “subject”…. Read my other comments before you open you mouth to speak or attack me…. (And an educate, clam, sane person does not have to use curse words to get his/her point across)

1.) It is MY opinion
2). I came to the post hoping to here something different from Jay Z, realized I wasn’t and “I decided” (I’ll take his sister in law title song) that I would leave a comment on it
3). Good comments go with the bad comments

Also, people get luck & street smarts confused….tell me will it be okay for your momma to wear a tube top and short shorts or how about your daddy in skin tight jeans and a rip shirt? Come on…Some people pick their noses, and some people use a napkin… get off it!…it just annoys me when I see grown men or women for that matter dressing as if they are a kid… I guess if you saw an over weight person wearing a tight dress you aren’t going to comment to a friend of yours about it, huh? Get off it!

And it sounds as if you are taking it personal because of how you called me a fool for speaking my mind, the real fools are those who cannot respect some else’s OPINION… I haven’t used disrespectful language towards you so why are you?

And once again it was just MY opinion emphasis on MY

The Best Man

Thursday, August 14, 2008 /

Damn Jay looks good.

I love him for his style and his rap game. Others come close, but he is the King of this and he is because not only is he a prolific rapper, he has swagger and leadership. You have to cover all grounds - not just lyrics (which he has for dayzzzzzz). Anytime he doesn’t have anything current out DJs will spin his old stuff or put old raps of his on new stuff to make a remix. He’s a legend for a reason - rap needs him.

Damn He looks good.

Gabrielle Isra

In regards to the song:

I don’t like the beat. It sounds like “A Milli” 80’s throwback. Ironic also that “The Blueprint 3″ is coming out right after “The Carter 3″. I think the “best rapper alive” title that he is so often attributed to is making him thirsty to outdo the other rappers who are selling a milli in a weekend. This song is about other people jocking him. It’s finny when people make a song about “haters”. If they really had no merit of influence in your life, then why are you making an entire song dedicated to them?

I don’t like it. However old you are … best rapper alive or whatever you claim to be … back it up.

In regards to his career:

It’s not up to us to determine what he wears, says, or does. But if he is near 40, and he is as successful as he is, why not help the community you came from and write up some lyrics that will uplift and encourage, and lift us out of this mental enslavement of money, sex, cars, drugs, flashing, etc. to where you are …. unless, of course … you haven’t been lifted out yourself.

Something to think about …

111.

Real Talk

Friday, August 15, 2008 /

#110 - It doens’t sound like “A Millie” by a longshot - Kanye did the beat which is a sample from Run DMC Raising Hell. He’s the greatest rapper alive - confirmed by your favorite artist when no confirmation was needed.

It’s only fair that a PRODUCER thought he’s being jocked and thought it appropriate to make a song about it. Can’t hate on Jay for that.

There’s nothing wrong with still being a certain age if you’re the best at what you do. If so, Madonna, U2, Sting, Patti Labelle, Beastie Boys and so on wouldn’t exist.

Jay’s done more than enough and counting for his community and others - QUIETLY. Some stuff gets broadcasted, others don’t. He’s done tributes to Sean Bell as well as established college funds for his kids, his lengthy charity work, saved a village of people by supplying water, did the Opening Song for Barack Obama for his MASSIVE Ohio gathering, annual scholarship funds and x-mas drives. And so much more…..

Unlike these other mc’s who are chasing his name, fame and fortune and doing nothing. Yeah, I’m Jockin Jay-Z - he deserves to be jocked.

There’s nothing to think about. Only research to be done before you speak.
