♫ NEW MUSIC: MONICA FEAT. LUDACRIS - “STILL STANDING”
Friday, August 15, 2008

Monica is back on the scene after a two year hiatus with her new single “Still Standing” featuring her boy Ludacris. Monica revealed earlier this month that she changed the album name from Lessons Learned to Still Standing, because it was more fitting. The release date is still TBA, but it will definitely be coming out before the end of the year.
So far, the singer has worked with producers Bryan Michael Cox, Babyface, Drumma Boy and Stargate. Her team also is in negations with Keyshia Cole, Ne-Yo, Polow da Don, and R. Kelly to contribute to Still Standing.
Make sure you check out Monica on her MySpace page and show her some love.

@ MANICA…it’s ok if you dont like the song..everybody doesnt like the same thing..but what i dont understand is why would you say that if she go the “beyonce route” that she would be succesful ? see this is what kills me..cause if she was trying to take the “beyonce route” then you’ll be running your mouth saying that she’s trying to be like beyonce. but no she’s a her own..and wants to stay monica and stay true to herself..which i dont blame her. i like monica because she lets her fans in….she dont try to hide ish….i like her and keyshia cole for that…there like hey it’s not always peaches and cream. i like beyonce too..but to me she puts on a front like everything is perfect in her life…i dont see her personality thru her songs…she says when she performs she’s not beyonce she’s “sasha”. I dont know if i was a artist i would want to connect with my fans on so many levels besides shaking my azz
@flylike…no keri hilson didnt write the song..some guy name adonis

Listen this sounds better than any umbrella song or any disturbia ish or what ever you call it, if Monica sells 1 record I will support, its not all about album sales every damn time. Some artist are in this industry to look cute and have no substance, Bra
ndy and Monica is the real deal and deserve there spot, people go through shit, should they fold their ahands and give up or keep trying, some of you act like you want them to go away and not do shit, let people live their lives and do them, I hope when your favourite artist start going through shit you keep it real because their is a lot of fakeness going on and aritst trying to give the impression that they are god and are prefect. This is not fantasy this is real shit.

Bayby my favorite young artist has and is going trhought shit right here on this blog and my older artist that i adore and support have gone through shit..and are still standing and by the way I for years I have worked for one of those old artist and we are familiar with this game….like I previously said can’t no one tell you young folk anything..my point is these young artist need to humble themselves…and just thank God for the opportunity and you all need to stop swelling their heads up about how great they are especially in todays market and all the competition…like I said mainstream is where the money is. Not just with urban America approval.

one of the most distinct young, black female vocalists of our age. unfortnuately a problem when it comes to marketing
monica, brandy, and other r&b singers who have been with us for so long have a problem of shaking their former images/sounds because we as the consumer are not willing to embrace their shifts in focus and creativity. we pigeon-hole them and blast them for anything that contrasts how we have come to know them.
i work in music and the biz model has changed. if you’re not going to buy, at least leave feedback on their websites so they can get their page visits, profile views, or plays up so the numbers prove their is a base out there. otherwise, you’ll be stuck with the “shit” you’re complaining about.

The people who don’t get the message of this song are obiously young, and have not experience turmoil or change in your life yet. This song speaks to those people that have been backed into a corner and had to fight they way through that shit. This is real and I’m not even mad at the people who dont feel. It, one day, if God blesses you, you will see the beauty of this song… Keep standing people.

So this is the single? What is the point of her show then? I like what she says in the beginning of the track. This reminds me of Pollow the Don. Nice message and nice sound Monica. This is like a female R and B version of T.I.’s “No Matter What.” Only a lil boring. I mean nice message and stuff but Luda saves this song. I thought she was gonna come w/ some heat. Track is nice but it seems like something else could be added. Idk. Good luck Monica.

Why people fronting like there aren’t any smart “hood chicks” granted they are a dime a dozen, but they exist. Monica has always been Monica from the beginning to the end. It was the media and record company who made her seem too sweet. Monica is that Ryde or Die Chick and she’s grounded, which is most important. Hood chick does not equal dumb people!

WTF? Did you even listen to the song or are you just talking out ya a$$?
@ #72 & #75,
Please STFU with that youngin bull$hit. I am not a youngin and I enjoy almost everything Monica puts out. If you don’t like it, state your opinion and move da f^ck on. No need to waste space, energy and time on something you don’t like right? And how about your old a$$ take some grammar classes cause I have seen several
“youngins” on this post who can form a complete and correct sentence better than you.
I love the song and I am so glad Mo and Brandy are back in the game. I wish them much success. I will be supporting Mo as always.

Monica held the song down completely on her own - Ludacris’ verse was kinda distracting…
Her gift is that she really is who she is in her music…just very REAL and I love that about her.
However, her last 2 albums have not been that great - not her vocals, but just the cohesiveness of the production of the albums. I hope this next one is better, even though based on who is working on the album, it seems like it’s going to be all over the place. We shall see…

First Brandy and NOW Monica back woooooooooooo. If only Aaliyah was still here, these three were the original young adolscent R&B girls who always brought the heat.
Awww damn! The batch of female singers right now cannot compare to those ladies right there! Would’ve been perfect if Aaliyah was still here…*sad*

Monica is doing something that is hard to do in the music bizz. She is staying relavent. She is staying true to herself and her fans. Not selling out making radio friendly music because that is what is expected.I am a fan of soul music and Monica delivers that and more on this track.
****Great year for music…Jennifer Hudson,Jazmine Sullivan,Monica,Michelle Williams,Solange. The ladies are representing.

Monica’s ‘Still Standing’ « Solowe’s Weblog
Saturday, August 16, 2008 /
[...] Is it me or has Monica been musically falling off since her debut? Sometimes, I wonder how she got away with this type of material. There’s nothing worse than a nice girl going “hood.” (Remember that song “Sideline Ho”: Youse a ho.) Well, Monica has finally found a balance with her hood tendencies and her musical integrity. On “Still Standing,” Monica reminds us that she still has something meaningful to say. And with Ludacris on set, the track is definitely set for commercial success. The album is titled Still Standing and will include production from R. Kelly, Babyface, and Keyshia Cole, which should be interesting. I just hope Monica continues to put more quality in her music and leave the cat fights to the chicken heads. [CL] [...]
