♫ NEW MUSIC: MONICA FEAT. LUDACRIS - “STILL STANDING”
Friday, August 15, 2008

Monica is back on the scene after a two year hiatus with her new single “Still Standing” featuring her boy Ludacris. Monica revealed earlier this month that she changed the album name from Lessons Learned to Still Standing, because it was more fitting. The release date is still TBA, but it will definitely be coming out before the end of the year.
So far, the singer has worked with producers Bryan Michael Cox, Babyface, Drumma Boy and Stargate. Her team also is in negations with Keyshia Cole, Ne-Yo, Polow da Don, and R. Kelly to contribute to Still Standing.
Make sure you check out Monica on her MySpace page and show her some love.

Luv Monica! As far as the pose is concerned, at least her private area isn’t smack dead in my face. Lil Kim’s was not a good look. On the contrary, Monica looks great. She just had two kids back-to-back, yet she looks fab. I’m definitely getting my copy from iTunes.

Sang it Monica! I liked this song as as soon as I heard it. It’s explaining her dilemma, and it knocks at the same time. Luda ripped the feature as usual tool. I don’t know why her label isn’t feeling it. It’s the perfect comeback record to me.

Monica is so hell bent on having a bad attitude and throwing her “status” (real or imagined) in everyone’s face with these interviews and songs choices that she seems to forget that it’s not about just putting out an album - but putting out a GOOD album, and as far as I’m concerned, as great a talent as she is, she’s yet to put out a cd since the first two that had more than two decent songs on it.
Her talent is too big for the shit she puts out. This song I can actually see growing on me, which is great, but sub par when I think about that phemonmenal voice.
Such a waste of talent. Monica reminds me of Lauryn Hill - the talent is there, but she refuses to use it. WHY are you singing silly shit like this when, with the industry void of “diva’s” actually SANGING right now (see, Whitney, Mariah) you could take the thrown and run it, since few have the vocal abilities you have right now?
Still standing? Possibly! Still RELEVANT? Not so much. But that’s HER doing!

Monica is bringing back what R&B is missing….SOUL. After hearing this song I feel like i’ve just been baptized in the name of Jesus. Can I get a AMEN?! LOL. This song has substance & depth…there is nothing silly about staying true to oneself & despite any obstacles in life…despite the pure hate & evil of people wanting you to fail- i’m going to stand, my head will never hit the floor. Let it go & let god in. What!?! This is more than a song its an ANTHEM. This song is on repeat! This is SANGING….

My family tuned in to her reality show and the entire house got quiet when they dropped the beat for this song. I don’t remember the writer’s name, I think it’s Adonis or something, but he is very talented. My only issue with the finished product is Luda. I was upset that she added him to the track before she played it for the J. Records guy. That could be the reason he wasn’t feeling it as a first single. Why is it necessary for R&B singers to add rappers on their first singles? Step out there by yourself and add they asses to the remix or something, but not your first effort. I know they are cousins and all, but I’m really not feeling him on this song.

How the hell is Monica trying to be “HOOD” in this song? If you listen to the lyrics, hell even if you listen to Luda’s lyrics you can’t even say that it’s “hood” this song has REAL meaning behind it. I say if you’re gonna be a naysayer, come with something with some merit.

Monica and Brandy cannot be compared to anyone out there. Both of them have their own unique sound and really cannot be compared to Beyonce. @36, #24, and #33. “Monica is too talented to settle for being a hood chick.” She has the pipes and looks to be right up there where Whitney used to be. C’mon girl, get it together. Hopefully, the rest of the cd has a more mature theme.”
You can’t be serious. What do you mean settling to be a hood chick? Monica has always been herself. It’s about being true to self, not being true to someone elses expectation of you. Mind you Whitney is not a “polished” diva herself (pre or post drug problems). That was the image they built around her. Real recognizes real, and Monica is a real chick, if that’s “hood” that’s what it is, take it or leave it. But I really don’t think “hood” is the right word to describe her.
Anyway…The song is fiyah, great message, has substance, Luda dropped some nice lines, and Monica’s voice is flawless. It’s good to hear some good R&B again. I do think this record will do great in the urban market (radio is going to eat up), but I’m not sure how much crossover appeal it will have (which I’m sure the record company is going for). Either way I think it’s a good luck to stir up a buzz for Monica’s new project.
I love most of the R&B female artist out now (Ciara, Rihanna, Beyonce, etc) they all do their thing, but I think Moncia and Brandy about to show this girls how it’s done and who started it all.

It’s like as long as you are a size 3 with a cute face and can somewhat manage to carry a tune…you can get a deal and it’s sad to see. But anywho…I’m lovin the song and can’t wait til the album comes out. I’m just glad it didn’t take another 5 years this time…we all know she’s good for that…lol.

I love Monica. I think she’s one of the few women out there in mainstream R&B who have talent. I also respect the fact that she’s kept herself around for so long but she has talent so you expect that. Anyway, even tho I love her as a vocalist, I’m not feeling her anymore as an artist. If you would have told me to listen to this blindly (meaning focus solely on the sound), I would have knew this was a track from someone from ATL. I want to hear more range from her and all I hear (especially from her last album) is “I’m that strong, ATL hood chick” instead of “I’m a strong woman.” How is this relatable to anyone OUTSIDE ATL or the hood? I’m not trying to say she shouldn’t be herself but “DAMN!” can you be a woman w/o always displaying “who you is” lol?

@ MANICA…it’s ok if you dont like the song..everybody doesnt like the same thing..but what i dont understand is why would you say that if she go the “beyonce route” that she would be succesful ? see this is what kills me..cause if she was trying to take the “beyonce route” then you’ll be running your mouth saying that she’s trying to be like beyonce. but no she’s a her own..and wants to stay monica and stay true to herself..which i dont blame her. i like monica because she lets her fans in….she dont try to hide ish….i like her and keyshia cole for that…there like hey it’s not always peaches and cream. i like beyonce too..but to me she puts on a front like everything is perfect in her life…i dont see her personality thru her songs…she says when she performs she’s not beyonce she’s “sasha”. I dont know if i was a artist i would want to connect with my fans on so many levels besides shaking my azz

ndy and Monica is the real deal and deserve there spot, people go through shit, should they fold their ahands and give up or keep trying, some of you act like you want them to go away and not do shit, let people live their lives and do them, I hope when your favourite artist start going through shit you keep it real because their is a lot of fakeness going on and aritst trying to give the impression that they are god and are prefect. one of the most distinct young, black female vocalists of our age. unfortnuately a problem when it comes to marketing
monica, brandy, and other r&b singers who have been with us for so long have a problem of shaking their former images/sounds because we as the consumer are not willing to embrace their shifts in focus and creativity. we pigeon-hole them and blast them for anything that contrasts how we have come to know them.
i work in music and the biz model has changed. if you’re not going to buy, at least leave feedback on their websites so they can get their page visits, profile views, or plays up so the numbers prove their is a base out there. otherwise, you’ll be stuck with the “shit” you’re complaining about.

This is like a female R and B version of T.I.’s “No Matter What.” Only a lil boring. I mean nice message and stuff but Luda saves this song. I thought she was gonna come w/ some heat. Track is nice but it seems like something else could be added. Idk. Good luck Monica.

Why people fronting like there aren’t any smart “hood chicks” granted they are a dime a dozen, but they exist. Monica has always been Monica from the beginning to the end. It was the media and record company who made her seem too sweet. Monica is that Ryde or Die Chick and she’s grounded, which is most important. Hood chick does not equal dumb people!

Oh and I loved the song when the guy first started to let it flow on the show. The writer not the beat maker made this track fire, even though the beat is hot also

WTF? Did you even listen to the song or are you just talking out ya a$$?
@ #72 & #75,
Please STFU with that youngin bull$hit. I am not a youngin and I enjoy almost everything Monica puts out. If you don’t like it, state your opinion and move da f^ck on. No need to waste space, energy and time on something you don’t like right? And how about your old a$$ take some grammar classes cause I have seen several
“youngins” on this post who can form a complete and correct sentence better than you.
I love the song and I am so glad Mo and Brandy are back in the game. I wish them much success. I will be supporting Mo as always.

Monica held the song down completely on her own - Ludacris’ verse was kinda distracting…
Her gift is that she really is who she is in her music…just very REAL and I love that about her.
However, her last 2 albums have not been that great - not her vocals, but just the cohesiveness of the production of the albums. I hope this next one is better, even though based on who is working on the album, it seems like it’s going to be all over the place. We shall see…

First Brandy and NOW Monica back woooooooooooo. If only Aaliyah was still here, these three were the original young adolscent R&B girls who always brought the heat.
Awww damn! The batch of female singers right now cannot compare to those ladies right there! Would’ve been perfect if Aaliyah was still here…*sad*

Monica is doing something that is hard to do in the music bizz. She is staying relavent. She is staying true to herself and her fans. Not selling out making radio friendly music because that is what is expected.I am a fan of soul music and Monica delivers that and more on this track.
****Great year for music…Jennifer Hudson,Jazmine Sullivan,Monica,Michelle Williams,Solange. The ladies are representing.

Monica’s ‘Still Standing’ « Solowe’s Weblog
Saturday, August 16, 2008 /
[...] Is it me or has Monica been musically falling off since her debut? Sometimes, I wonder how she got away with this type of material. There’s nothing worse than a nice girl going “hood.” (Remember that song “Sideline Ho”: Youse a ho.) Well, Monica has finally found a balance with her hood tendencies and her musical integrity. On “Still Standing,” Monica reminds us that she still has something meaningful to say. And with Ludacris on set, the track is definitely set for commercial success. The album is titled Still Standing and will include production from R. Kelly, Babyface, and Keyshia Cole, which should be interesting. I just hope Monica continues to put more quality in her music and leave the cat fights to the chicken heads. [CL] [...]
