christina aguilera never did 40s and 50s music- she recorded regular old pop. basically all she did was add horns to her music. Her CD was supposed to be retro, but it sure as hell wasn’t.

i personally love old school, and i love that R&B artists are going back to that vibe. I dig it.

LOVE RAPHAEL, LOVE THE LATE 50′S/60′S SOUND BUT THIS SONG HAS YET TO GROW ON ME. I DO STILL LOVE HIS TONE AND EVERYTHING THOUGH. SHARP SUIT/50′S LOOK IN THE PIC. I ALSO THINK IT IS FUNNY THAT A JEISH GIRL FROM GB (AMY WINEHOUSE) HAD TO BRING BACK THE LATE 50′S/60′S SOUL SOUND FOR BLACK PEOPLE.
THANKS #8 ~}(}|{){ VIRGO GIRL HERE! }(}|{){~

Love his voiced. Loved him since TTT. He’s always been a cutie to me, but got real sexy when he went solo. Is he still dating Joss Stone???? #11, I feel you on the Teedra comment…I guess from them working together, I could see that, too.

I love it! R. Saadiq is an amazing artist/entertainer/performer! I have to say that his concert he had in San Diego at HOB was AMAZiNg. And if ever anyone ever says Christina A is original and everyone has been biting since, CLEARLY has no brain or does any research on music!!! Do ya’ research people! Christina is hardly old soul music, and this has nothing to do with her ethnicity, she just does not do that style music! Ain’t no Other man does not count!!!

Love Raphael Saadiq!! And I’ve always loved his voice!

The video is cool, I’m just sick of these typical looking video chicks. Change it up by romancing an average looking girl or someone dark skinned.

Rae has always had a vintage feel to his music, Christina’s last cd was not 60’s soul-feeling. the resurgence of the new old school sound i’d say started in London, but every few yr’s maybe ten yrs that trend rolls around like every other trend.

I swear if it is not Beyonce or Rihanna or whom it is not to people. This shit is real music real music that came before anybody’s Beyonce or who ever. Raphael Saadiq didn’t follow anyone’s Christina Aguliera in his Motown sound which sounds nothing close to what she did. If anything his sound is like one of my favorite groups The Stylistics that is who he reminds me of especially his song Oh Girl that was posted. Granted the video looks a little cheesy but it’s cool. I will be buying the album Sept. 16. Upcoming singers please bring more music like this back, the people that really made the sound from the sound and not a machine that plays music and synthesiers.

i luv raphael I feel he stays true to the art and isn’t concerned about what it takes to sell records he’s actually interested in creating good music. A lot of people’s ears have been terribly trained and ruined due to the garbage that has emerged on to our radios these pass few years causing them to not know what good music is even if it were played directly into their earlobes…i’m happy there are artist like raphael, jazmine sullivan and others that are bringing music back down to earth.

Love the song, reminds me of the Temptations Why You Wanna Make Me Blue or The Girls’ Alright With Me. Not feeling his choice of women in the video. Whatever happened to black men loving black women? It’s like he deliberately went out of his way to pick white girls for this video. Extremely disapointed in him.

Sunday, August 31, 2008 /

This is my dude, but not feeling this one right here.
I don’t mind the 60’s sound at all, this is just not a good look for him and he can normally pull this type of style off with no problem. C’mon son, come with it!

47.

COME ON!!

Sunday, August 31, 2008 /

I love the song but what is he trying to say to all African American women in this video. It could’ve been diverse. Most black women these days are the head of their household meaning they make the money. I won’t be buying his CD. He’s sending the wrong message.

I’M FEELING COMMENTS: 23, 47 AND OTHERS. I FEEL LIKE F SAADIQ RIGHT NOW. WHY IS IT THAT THE HYBRID OR WHITE FEMALE AESTHETIC ARE THE CENTER PIECES FOR ALL BLACK MALE VIDEOS? WHAT IS THIS SUGGESTING? THERE WAS ONLY ONE BLACK WOMAN IN THE ENTIRE VIDEO AND SHE WAS A MERE PROP TO THE OTHER NON-BLACK FEMALE LEADS IN THE VIDEO. It really doesn’t matter if these women were his proteges or artists, its about balance. I thought someone like Saadiq would conscious of this.

He wants to sing culturally-Black music, dress culturally Black and guess what, his entire fan-base is and has been BLACK and this is how he represents for us. This is the visual that he gives to a genealogy of Black music that he chooses to riff on for this album. HE SUCKS!

And for all of us who took an issue with this video, WE SHOULD NOT SUPPORT HIS MUSIC, HIS FREE CONCERT OR ANY OF HE FUTURE PROJECTS.

BIG-UPS TO ARTISTS LIKE: Anthony Hamilton, Jaheim and Musiq, (sometimes), Martin Luther among other Black male singers for placing REAL BLACK WOMEN AND OFTEN TIMES, DARK SKIN BLACK WOMEN IN THEIR VIDEOS. I WILL ALWAYS SUPPORT THESE ARTISTS.
