♫ Terrence Howard – Plenty
Some may be familiar with Terrence Howard as the Oscar and Golden Globe-nominated star of such movies as Hustle and Flow, Ray, Crash and Lackawanna Blues, an actor declared by Entertainment Weekly the “Indie Film King.” Still, what you may not know is that his first love is actually music.
“Music has always been the road that leads to where I’m headed,” he says. “Film is my vocation, my 9 to 5. In the movies, I’m doing what somebody else is asking me to do. Music is my own personal form of expression. My responsibility, like the sun’s, is to shine. Even if the planet is covered with clouds, I must say what I have to say.”
Terrence Howard will be releasing his debut album Shine Through It on September 2nd. Take a listen to track, “Plenty” and give your two cents.

Never thought I would say this…but this song could actually grow on me.
I like it much better than “Sanctuary” and “Love Makes U Beautiful”.
On this song, his voice sounds much stronger and he is singing with more conviction than on the others.
All y’all know he sounds better on “Woop That Trick”. I believe a Terrance Howard rap CD would sell better. He can play guitar tho.

I actually think this song is pretty good. Much different than I had expected.
I actually just found out that Solange, Michelle Williams and yes Terrence Howard will be performing on Thursday, August 21st at this years J&R Music Fest in NYC.
The concert is free so I may have to check him out. Ashanti and Joe will also be performing on Saturday, August 23 on the last day of the event.

I’m feeling it…interested to hear the rest of the album – especially his guitar sections. I think Terrance would put on a good live show in a small venue like a house of blues or something like that.
I don’t know what to think of Terrance Howard as a music artist…it just seems weird to me. It sounds a lot like something Ben Harper would do.
I’m diggin’ the production but I can’t take him seriously as a singer. He sounds like he’s talking or in a movie. Prince is his idol and this definitely sounds like his type of music. PLENTY would be hot with Prince singing on it not him.
This is a hot, raspy, need-some-lemon-tea mess! The instrumentals are nice. The concept is interesting, and were it not for *that* voice, I could seriously feel the song. BUT, *that* voice…. At first, I honestly wanted to give the (triflin) brotha a chance. I thought he was gonna give me some Terrance Trent Darby, but instead I got that raspy, three-note-range mess. Not a good look. Get a vocal coach, or better yet, don’t quit your day job. Next!

@Jazz: He has been promoting this CD, but I’m sure because he is a newcomer, he isn’t going to get the big marketing budget the first time out.

I like it! It’s perfect for a movie soundtrack. As soon as I heard it, that’s what I thought. Soundtrack music.
Haha… well, my man should (my opinion only) most definitely stick with acting…
But I’m always excited to see people step out of comfort zones and live out their dreams. T. Howard isn’t the most gifted vocalist around, but he loves music and went for it. More of us should be doing that!

I like his voice. For some reason, on this song, it has a Lenny Kravitz feel. Anyway, I would have to hear some more songs from him but I like his voice.

Although Howard is quite the arrogant dude, he is very smart. He has a M.S. in Physics.

He played some of his music for a small audience at the Essence Music Festival. his music sounds like that alternative stuff. I didn’t like it at all but he was cute though!!

I do not buy his schtick for one second…I think he’s a reasonably good actor who simply did the right thing at the right time (“Hustle and Flow” like “Dreamgirls” was another film the Oscar bigwigs used as fodder for a new gen of prospective viewers) and is now skating by on his looks. They see him now and they like it and he’s getting stuff… His acting is disingenuous, in my opinion but by no means “bad.”
