Wow. To get up to this news, I am truly shocked and saddened. Bernie Mac was an original. He didn’t copy anyone, and nobody can duplicate his style. He only had 10 or 15 minutes in the movie “Friday,” but his 10 or 15 minutes in the movie were some of the most memorable in the film. He was truly a comic genius. Sad, sad day.

FYI Bernie has been suffering from a disease called Sarcoidosis which there is no cure for. The lungs are the organ commonly affected by this disease. This is also explains why is eyes would drop sometimes.

This is horrible news to wake up to…..He’s in better place now….Sarcoidoisis is a terrible condition…My cousin mother recently passed away from it at a very early age also….

This news saddened me, I worked closely with Bernie on a big production scene for the Disney film Old Dogs, he was so incredibly nice and sweet, and took the time to sit with us upcoming actors and gave us advice when he didnt have to answer our questions, I truly admired his character and he will be missed.

oh my goodness. i and my parents are in utter shock and i am so perplexed because all said he was getting better, thus, i truly believed he was. then this morning on msn i read that he passed away. first heath now him…unexpected deaths and it is just…it’s not right. but now that i think about it, a person with sacroidosis who becomes stricken with pneumonia has quite a fight ahead of himself or herself. it is just so devastating that it had to be Bernie. When i logged on and saw this it devastated me. Why does it always seem like when people are in the hospital and you think they’re getting better all of a sudden they’re gone. Bernie Mac was a great comedian and actor and he will never be forgotten. My prayers and condolensces to his family. That’s why we have to appreciate the things we have while we have the chance cause tomorrow is not promised to nobody. Tell people you love them today. Don’t hold grudges. Forgive and let go don’t let anger destroy your soul. LIVE LIFE AND BE HAPPY.

Hope the journey was peaceful brother. I never met u, but yr vibe was that of a cool dude. R I P. I don’t know why, but this death hit me kinda hard this morning. Am so pissed right now. My dad layed in a hospital bed for almost two months with a tube stuck in his mouth dying from lynphoma. Little did I know when I was going on vacation abroad I will never talk to my dad again. Man Life I Swear………

WOW!?! I’m speechless. like how?!? I, of course, heard about him being hospitalized for his pneumonia but I didn’t even bother with it because i thought he was gonna get through it just fine. But I NEVER for once thought….. WOW

How tragic, the news came as a real shock to me and what a sad loss to the world of entertainment; I had not even realised he had been ill. He had a real talent for humour and brought a special something to the films and indeed performances he gave. He had real presence which meant your eyes were drawn to him.

My thoughts are with his family as I can appreciate their loss having lost my Father to a similar sounding illness earlier this year.

To have such a great TALENT such as Bernie here on this earth. He was simply “THE TRUTH” & he made it so damn funny (love him or hate him for telling it like it is). When you hear news that he is SICK, you start praying that he will pull through it again (like the first time he was really sick & hospitalized), when he gets sick again years later and you hear that he passes away but it turns out to be a RUMOR, you are relieved it was a LIE but you pray even harder for him to pull through it again. But at the same time, it felt differnt this time. I still had this weird feeling that something still wasn’t gonna be like the last time he got sick (really weird feeling). When my brother carried the news home from what he heard from the outside today, it was a SHOCK (no one wants to believe it of course & naturally) but at the same time, he was sick & been in the hospital battling pnuemonia so…we all knew it was a possibility he would leave us. It hurts but at the same time, he is no longer suffering with this illness, he isn’t in pain anymore. He lost his mom to cancer when he was a teenager & one thing he promised her was that he would be a comedian & thats what he did.

He gave us years & years & so many years of laughter here on earth. He left us with so much to remember him by. I think he did what he was born to do, & now it was time for him to go back home reunite with his mom & keep the laughter going over there, along with Red fox, Robin Harris, Richard Pryor & the rest of the comics who have passed on.

I almost died from pneumonia at age 31 (and no, I’m NOT HIV positive), so I KNOW how serious this can be. We he wasn’t out of the hospital after 7 days, I got REAL worried.

I just heard about this this morning from a customer at my job. I was so shocked and felt bad. I’m always bashing people on blogs but I had no problem with Berney. he was really cool and funny and had some really good movies roles. He seemed so young. I thought he was like 38. This is a shame and it just shows us that life is too short!

Most white actors have to bend over to get these roles so I can imagine what he had to do to break into Hollywood, much less get in movies like “Ocean’s Eleven” with all those bisexu*l actors. On top of that, he was a member of the Boule.

This was a big shock, I must admit it made me very emotional especially as I was glad that the original rumors of his death were not true and now it has really happened. I enjoyed his style of comedy, and am sad that we won’t get to see more from him. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and it is nice to see all the respect being paid to him on concrete loop, so many people had much love for him as an entertainer.

My question is, according to all the reports, Bernie should have recovered from this simple pneumonia, so why didn’t he? Maybe his death should be investigated to make certain everything was done properly while he was at the hospital and not just signed off as “normal” causes?!!

Im glad we have “black” websites such as this one (thanks Angel), and the internet because this is not making head line news. The news announced his death briefly (maybe a minute on some stations) and in the Sunday paper I thought maybe he’d be on the front page but he is fetured in a little picture at the top of the front page of the news paper while there is a BIG picture of some “white” sports player” covering the majority of the page.

I thought maybe BET & TVone would interrupt their original programming and pay tribute to Bernie by showing some of his movies etc… ( I didn’t notice anything much on BET, no breaking news reports or anything—maybe I missed it) TVone showed a picture of Bernie with the year of birth & death between shows & movies, but that was it. I hope this week proves both channels different. I expected alot more coverage from them rather than the “white MEDIA” (of course). Hopefully as the days progress more celebs will come foward with their thoughts on Bernies death, & we’ll hear more about it. When Gerald Levert passed away he hardly got any recognition as well in the MEDIA “white MEDIA” especially.

If you left the room for a quick drink in the fridge, you would have missed the coverage on his death. Hell, you could have blinked & missed the news coverage on his death…& he was a music legend too.

Man I dont know…maybe as the days go by we will hear more on Bernie. Eventhough he has passed on, some of these channels can pay tribute by showing movies, clips of The Bernie Mac show, or clips of some of his comedy acts!! I mean damn! Celebrate the mans life, he was one of the greatest comedians to walk this earth, and he gets “minimal” media coverage after his passing? Where is the RESPECT factor for the man? this week is very very sad for all people who loves black music and comedy. both isaac and bernie have joined forces for the upcoming movie Soul Men and they died in the same week . Life is strange, you don’t know what gonna happen to you, the next day.

Tears came to my mom’s eyes when she heard Bernie Mac had passed. He was a good man with a great spirit. Sure no one is perfect but Bernie wasn’t the kid of man who had kids out of marriage, or any other drama that most star have going on like domestic violence. He married his high school girlfriend had one daughter now a son in law and new granddaughter. His daughter has a Master degree in Social Services. So there there was importance placed on education. I’m proud that this brother followed his passion and achieved his goals personally and professionally. May God bless your Soul Mr. McCullough. You were the best! Much better than those guys who were in Kings of Comedy, you made the movie. God Bless your family.

What I said about Bernie Mac I stand behind. A statement was released by his publicist in the newspaper last Tuesday or Wednesday in which she denied that Bernie Mac was near death. Then Saturday morning he drops dead. It’s obvious that the publicist was being evasive and attempting to hide the true nature of his disease. You typed five or six paragraphs in an effort to educate me and only showed how much of a jackass you are. Stay in your place please and stick to what you know. I say the things that other people are too scared or stupid to say, and you know this. It has nothing to do with being “crazy”, lol. If you wish to idolize and worship these “celebrities” then do so, but do not attempt to influence me into your cult.

In regards to the other black women that attacked what I said, it’s easy to see (once again) why the black woman has the highest rate of AIDS. Nowhere did I say that Bernie Mac had AIDS simply because he was a h*mosexual. The h*mosexuality is linked to his roles in Hollywood and anyone that researches the entertainment industry knows that success in that realm is based around selling your soul and engaging in sexual depravity. If anything, AIDS is more affiliated with black women.

This is why they repeatedly say that his pneumonia had “nothing to do with the sarcoidosis” without following through and saying what the pneumonia was affiliated with. It’s what’s called a subliminal message and an open-ended statement, left to the listener or reader to pick up on it. Some will and most won’t based on your leanings and intelligence level.

@321 & 376 - I’m riding with you both! My cousin died of complications due to pneumonia in 1986 back when AIDS was just hitting the scene. And my brother passed in 1996 from the same thing.

I could tell that when Bernie started picking up weight in the face and losing it, that was the tell-tell sign. It’s sad when the BLACK COMMUNITY wil not accept that AIDS kills everyone and doesn’t discrimiate based on social class, gender, race, religion, etc.

I respect the family and their wishes to keep the matter private but anytime you pass from pneumonia in 2008, that’s what that is! My condolences go out to the family. I know this has got to be a difficult time for them.

Loved Bernie Mac, I was sad when I heard this saturday morning. I was watching the parade in Chicago saturday and felt bad for Steve Harvey but he pulled it off pretty good. Any way I Iike the funny stuff people are saying from Bernie’s stand up and movies. That makes me smile and sad at the same time.

I can’t believe what I’m reading from certain comments up here. OMG! Does it matter what he died from? I mean a wife lost her husband, a daughter lost her father, and siblings lost a brother and so on. I can’t believe in this day and age that we are making a big deal of this. I didn’t know that when you have complications of pneumonia that automatically means you have HIV/AIDS. You can’t just have pneumonia???? I mean educate me. It just crazy that this is a time to express ones feelings and already assumptions are being made. I agree, it does not matter what he died from. What matters is the legacy he left behind, and the fact that he’s gone and has a family full of agonizing grief. Hence, little or no tributes for Bernie were made on BET because this type of news was apparently not important enough to Viacom.
