NEWS ROUNDUP: RACIAL SLUR DEFACES CHURCH / REP. TUBBS JONES DIES / NOOSE FOUND AT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Thursday, August 21, 2008
The congregation of the First Baptist Church of Chesterbrook, Virginia, recently discovered Nigger spray-painted in large block letters next to the church’s front door.
“It was a very upsetting time,” said Andre Johnson, a longtime member of the church.
Johnson added that members were concerned, as you “can very well expect them to be when they walk up to the church and see that on the front.”
“It was very disturbing to the membership and to me,” said James R. King, chairman of the board of deacons at the church, which traces its history to the Civil War era.
During the service, King said he and the church’s pastor, the Rev. Todd Brown, said from the pulpit that it was not so much the word itself that had been so alarming but the place it appeared.
“That you would deface a house of worship . . . shocked us more than anything,” King said.
REP. TUBBS JONES DIES
U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress, died Wednesday after a brain aneurysm. She was 58.
Tubbs Jones represented parts of Cleveland and its eastern suburbs and suffered the aneurysm while driving her car in suburban Cleveland Heights.
She was first elected in 1998 and headed the House Ethics Committee. She was also the first black woman to serve on the Ways and Means committee.
Rep. Tubbs Jones was planning to attend the DNC in Denver next week.
NOOSE FOUND AT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has confirmed a noose was found hanging in an electrical shop of a CHOP building.
Following an investigation, the alleged worker who put it there was fired.
According to sources, a white worker hung a noose on a light fixture on the 13th floor of the Aberson Pediatric Research Center. The worker was asked three times to take the noose down by a black co-worker. When he repeatedly refused, he was reported, investigated and fired.

Angel, you better not put my comment in moderation mode because what I have to say is very important.
I am really getting fed up with all of this. I feel hopeless. What can we do as a people, most importantly as a race to eliminate this type of hate towards us? I mean, we can sit here all day and blog our lives away voicing our disdain at this but we need action. We have to let it be known that his time of narrow-mindedness will not be tolerated on any level and I am not talking about “overcoming this hate with our capacity to love.” I am talking about confronting this evil. We have to learn to speak the language of hate and speak in the same tone to these dirt bags are accustomed to and let them know that black people, we mean business. I am not by any means advocating violence, but we as people have been lambs to be slaughtered for too long and it is time we band together to protect the flock. This unacceptable.

WIll racism ever cease to exist…we are pushn so hard to move on and uplift the beginning of Power for African Americans (Barack)….but just as much far as we try to go to build and empower ourselves there are even more that r determined to keep us “slave minded”….
Not b’n funny at all…real question…Why can’t we all just get along…seriously…we all have to dwell n this country together…y make it such a difficult tym…
and then to hang a noose n a Childrens Hospital…how insentitive, cold hearted, hating can u get…i mean that shows absolutely no respect for ANYONE>>>

**Dukesman2000-Im really feeling you because when I read this I could just feel
**the pain and fear that our aunty’s, uncles, and cousins must’ve felt living in those
**times, attitudes and actions that should be long gone are still there, right under
**the surface of kind smiles and how do you do’s? I think as a people that we don’t
**really take action, and we just accept what’s given and told to us, and we need
**to change that. So stay strong and encouraged and just ask God to make a way
**and to give you a course of action to take. I’ve never seen your name before so I
**don’t know if you normally blog but I’m glad you did, take care sweets.

I just met (and took a picture with) Ms. Tubbs Jones at the Delta National Convention in Orlando. She was so personable and friendly that our meeting was definitely a highlight of what was my very first convention and now, that she has passed so unexpectedly, a memory that I will treasure for the rest of my life. OOOOOO-Op Soror Jones!

To Tubbs Jones’ family and state, we mourn deeply with you, but pray that the Congresswoman went to a place of peace and reward.
In reference to the two incidents of racist blantanly displayed, I would advise our community to take them as examples that work and progress must continue to ensure love overpowers hate in America, and in the world, whether it be hate of skin color, religion, sexual orientation, gender or ancestry.

For too long African Americans have put on the good face, smiled through the pain. Time for that to end! My husband thinks I’m nuts when I do this but I am very honest with my son’s school and I let them know that they (the all white women teaching staff) are being entrusted with my precious child and that I’ll be paying close attention to what is going on in the class regarding race relations. I let them know my expectations and what I think my son is capable of doing. Sometimes when certain teachers say “he’s only a little boy” I hear “he’s only a little black boy” and I ask them plainly if the white little boys do it. It gets uglier or nicer from there. We have to speak up. We have to fight for our rights or our children will be in the same state of complacency. We have to demand the best from ourselves and from others. If we feel slighted we need to call people on it. When we see nooses we need to take pictures , document, call names and send to blogs. How nice would it be to say “look at the shit I’m dealing with at work” and know that it will be responded to. For all the people out there dealing with injustices large and small don’t suffer in silence…. raise your voice.

@ Judah….
Why would you stoop to the cesspool level of trying to distort my numerous conversations with you? You know damn well, I have never expressed at any point that I believe Barack Obama is going to come in and wave a magic wand that’ll erase this country’s deep rooted biases. All I am saying is…I just don’t believe the white man is the answer to our problem, which is the race problem. Lincoln (a white man) signed the Emancipation Proclamation to solve the race problem and it is still. White liberals came out with the Supreme Court Desegregation Decision to solve the race problem and it is still here. Kennedy told all the black people what he was going to do for them if they voted for him and they did, 80%. He was elected to office and didn’t do a damn thing. Instead, when the police dogs were biting black women, black children and black babies in Alabama, Kennedy said there wasn’t anything he could do because no federal laws were violated. But when the black people erupted and started fucking up some white people, without batting an eye, Kennedy sent the troops to help the white people. So brother, black people have left the white man to his conscious to do something moral and correct the wrong his has done but he doesn’t have the moral capacity to do so. So why not put just a fraction of that trust same trust we have in the white man in one our own? Now you tell me, what is wrong with that?

Racism will always exsist because just like all of us people (even racists) have opinions and choices…… new racists are born, bred and living amongst us everyday …
As long as we have racism and self-hatred amongst ourselves I’m not expecting any other race and/or ethinicity to NOT be racist…. this is the world we live in like or not….. doesn’t mean it’s right it just is….

Is there not a symbol, sign or something that we can use as they have? Everyone says turn the other cheek, we have come a long way and it will end soon. I say lets go back to the “Farrakhan” days. Does anyone know if Farrakhan, has a successor. Is there some “BROTHA HOOD” out there that is willing to preach hate like they do? If so, let me know I would be the first to sign up. This may sound like the wrong way to approach the situation, but i think it’s worth a try. I do like them, in my house we have 2 girls (24&12) 1 son (19) and i raised them not to date outside their race especially, whites. I have talked against the white race for soooo many years you couldn’t pay them to even think about it. Forget the saying “you can’t help who you fall in luv with”, i promise you if you teach from birth it”ll carry till death. Let’s stop taking each other out and focuse on the real problem. Stop hurting people cause of the colors they wear, but for the color of their skin.

the hate is in white folks dna, it is in their bone marrow. they come first. barack is up and down leading in the polls because the white hate groups are letting the white people know that a vote for barack is a vote that will betray the white race. i’ve racked my brain trying to figure out why the white folks opress and despise blacks so. and i remembered back in high school my senior year. we had career day and a counseler spoke and shared his believe; and its was that the white my will always have and assume the power and money he will always run the show. it boiled down to losing the respect of his white mate or his white women is what he fears the most theis is why he oppreses me and don’t want me to suceed. and undemines my exsistence.

Defacing a church ??
They must know that they are already going to hell . That is the only reason why a person would do something as stupid as that .
And the noose incident , I personally would have used it on him . It sickens me that people still resort back to the ignorant ways of the 1800’s to now . I say now because I don’t think any of us will be alive when it finally is over , THE WHOLE RACE ISSUE .
It will probably take another 400+ yrs. for people to let it go and start treating people as humans and not judge by the color of someone’s skin . They say history repeats itself but , this part of history never left .

And then here’s this one, only 49 comments. There you go. No one is “lifting their voice” or making big changes, cuz we’re all too obsessed with what’s coming out Rhianna or Beyonce’s crack. THERE I SAID IT. So until we all start focusing on what’s REALLY important, this world is going to hell in a hand basket and NO Obama isn’t going to save the day, when we can’t even save ourselves.

I feel that black people can elevate themselves by stop playing victim all the time. They don’t want equality, they want to continue being opressed so that they can have an excuse for all the failures, blame it on racism, we cant get jobs because we’re black, we cant do this, do that because we’re black. White people will continue to treat u like victims, because you call for it. LAWS OF ATTRACTION, whatever kind of energy u put out there, the universe will bring it back 2 u, twice as much, hence people who always have a negative mindsets or thoughts find only negative things happening to them & vice versa. We need 2 stop thinking of ourselves as minority, because were NOT! Native Americans are, but not black people. Elevate your minds & thoughts. Want to go out there & be better, believe that you ARE better and you’ll be successful. Stop using everything as a crutch & stand on ur own 2 feet. This shit will never stop, in real sense, because we r calling 4 it & asking 2 be victims all the time. Learn.
