♫ OFFICIAL 1st SINGLE FROM BRANDY

One of my favorite vocalists, Brandy, releases her official first single, “Right Here (Departed),” from her forthcoming 5th studio album. Brandy fans across the world have been on pins and needles, awaiting the release for the singer. The new single is produced by none-other than long time Brandy collaborator and friend, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins.

Rumors have swarmed around Brandy’s new release, but it has been confirmed that Brandy will link up with The Clutch, as well as the talented Bryan-Michael Cox. There are also rumors of Danja contributing to the album. It’s also been said that Brandy’s already filmed the video with a possible feature on BET’s Access Granted.

Make sure you check out our girl Brandy on her MySpace page and show her some of that good old fashion CL love!

  4. virgovixxen

not really feeling it to much–I liked the List song better but its good to hear B-rocka is offically back

  5. Cutie

It’s ok. Unless she releases an accompanied KICK ASS video to go with this song, I don’t see this particular single doing all that well. It’s just my opinion. I will watch and wait for more released singles to see if I can be swayed. I’m just such a huge Brokenhearted fan, it will be hard for her to top that for me.

  6. mofo

I wanted to hip yall to something….

So, the producer must love ColdPlay (who doesn’t)

and decided to remix “The Scientist”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3Kd7IGPyeg

Producers, come up with your own progressions, please, as this sh*t in my book is a blatant rip, esp since the MIDI files are downloadable from the internet

  7. Taji

Underrated singer and I love the song. She is truly a great R&B artist

  8. DeShawn

I LOVE IT… I LOVE IT… I LOVE IT…. ITS A POP SONG.. AND IM GLAD SHE WENT FOR THAT… THE PRODUCTION SOUNDS LIKE A MIXTURE OF THE NEVER SAY NEVER SOUND AND THE FULL MOON SOUND THAT DARKCHILD CREATED WITH HER.. ITS LIKE HE FUSED THE TOO… AND I LOVES IT…

AND IM GLAD SHE MADE A SONG THAT COULD APPEAL TO EVERYONE….

    LOVESSS ME SOME B-ROCKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS IS ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF MY YEAR AND THE ALBUM IS SOON TO FOLLOW…. OOOOHHH YES!

  9. The Commentor Formerly Known As RKJVILLE3000

I like it….I mean the beat is dynamic and her vocals are beautiful it’s just a little underwhelming…I’m not “in love” but I like it and regardless I’m buying the new CD if she puts joints like “Nodding Off” on their…I love raspy voiced Brandy…

  10. I talk, You listen

    @mofo
1 Brandy has already been a documented coldplay fan and she sampled them for her last CD.

    2. As long as the original group is credited and more importantly getting that royalty check …no one reallys cares except for a few oversensitive coldplay fans.

    3. hip hop, R&B and Rock and Alternative have always sample others ideas and material…this is nothing new, get over it.

  11. Lil CiCi

OMG!!! HELL YEAH, BRANDY IS BACK!! I’VE ALWAYS RESPECTED AND ADMIRED HER AS AN ARTIST. YEP THIS IS GONNA BE HER YEAR 2 NEXT WIT CIARA. I’M BUYING LIKE 2 COPIES WHEN HER SHIT DROPS.

  12. Leroy

Welcome back Brandy how I have missed you and your music so much. Thanks Brian for the post as well. This single is definitely a very crossover mainstreamish type of single. I do not know how it will do on R&B radio but I definitely see this making the Hot 100 charts. She needs to place another single out as well with this one so she is definitely not slept one again. Very talented artist and I will always and forever be inspired cause her music is so different from what’s in but she keeps it current for those who are not musically inclined at all. New album drops November 4 I can’t wait.

  13. LUP

    It’s ok..
For me Brandy Brandy rocked it the most in her 1st 2 albums
Kinda like Aaliyah, nothing ever matched up to”Age ain’t nothing but a number”

  14. Jake Jacobs VI

Yes please get into Brandy, she is everything! She will be making her way back to where she was before. She is in a genre of her own and no one can take that away!

    Jake Jacobs VI

  15. toosext

I liked it, and I think she should release another single also along with this one, but i am glad that she is back none the less!

  16. David

I am in awe of this single! It is like the breath of fresh air that I needed! Brandy’s voice is sooo melodic it gives me chills. This song is Record of the Year material. The production is crazy thanks to Rodney Jerkins who know how to produce Brandy like the back of his hand, the vocal arrangement is sick, runs are glorious, and overall the lyrics are just crazy! I can’t wait til November 4th when the album drops I just pray and hope everyone dosen’t sleep on this new project and I hope if you download the CD buy it also and support her project! She needs everyones support to reclaim her throne as the queen of R&B because she truly is!!! Love you Brandy!!!

  17. kaykay

it sounds okay-similar to her other stuff. i wonder what other producers she’s going to work with…i can hear her on a neptunes track

  18. SHALANE

I LOVE HER SO SO MUCH. I JUST HATE THE WAY SHE PORTRAYS HER SONGS IN VIDEOS.YOU IMAGINE YOUR FAVORITE SONG TO THE PERFECT VIDEO AND WHEN IT DOESNT HAPPENED ITS DISAPPOINTING.HER LAST ALBUMS WAS MY FAVORITE.

  19. Mutada al sader the king

Jerkins is a known bitter, he started off copying Teddy, then he took the Badboy r&b sound of Stevie J, J-Dub etc. Then he moved on to Timbaland, snatched his drum sounds and programming style basically ripped the guy off for a number of years. Now he’s moved on to Danja. I will say he has shown some innovation in the process, he just borrows to much.

On the Clutch….the only one that likes their songs is Brian.. OK.. Ice Box was hot, 4 Minutes was cool and the Freak Show joint on Brits album was cool.
And we all know Keri Hillson “borrows” a lot from Brandies vocal style (believe it ), But do we really need Brandy singing their disjointed songs ? NO
Stick with Lashawn and Rodney and make a “Brandy” album not an Atlanta producer and writer compilation project. We don’t need Brandy singing The Dreams songs,
or an album full of Tricky Stewart’s fake Danja Handz arpeggiator renditions. I wont buy the record if it full of left over Day 26 tracks or BMC piano loop tracks. And I like Johnta Austin but again Brandy has a sound and we don’t need her doing the Atlanta thing on this record. On the Cold Play thing Timbaland sampled the song Clocks on her last album, and she made a nice lil song out of it. I doubt Rodney needs Midi files to replay a cold play song theirs nothing complicated about any of their chord progressions and for the record they’re nothing but a U2 rip off themselves

Brandy can DO NO WRONG she ALWAYS was the best out or the “three” Monica, Aliyah(RIP) and she has an ORIGINAL voice..you cant trace her influences back to some singer from the 70′s or 80′s..that rare and one of the reasons why people love her so much.. Also the chick puts out SOLID albums..all of her albums even the last one were banging.

    The Jury is still out

BRANDY IS BACK. U BETTA DO THA DAMN THING B-ROCK…I LOVE U!

  21. mofo

    @ I TALK, YOU LISTEN -

    Valid, however…

    1) Coldplay was not accredited according to her PRO (rights management), if brandy likes them so much then why no credit.

    2) Rodney Jerkins produced this, not a beginner producer, RJ is tight as hell on the keys and in some of his ideas, so it upsets me when someone of his caliber does this. It is blatant. I just played both versions on the piano and added accents for the Brandy version, they are dead on, not cool in my book. RJ has always been a “creator”/”composer” in my book, but this knocks him down a little for me. But it seems that today, it is ok to give someone credit for piggybacking off of someone elses ideas – that in ColdPlay’s case means so much to them (look up the meaning behind the song). Ex. Kanye, makes good music, but to me, he is far from original (production wise – the beats the samples, etc.), and I find it hard to give him “composer” props. However, he still credits his source :-)

    3) Samples of other’s material, as you said, I’m O.K. with as long as credit is given, in this case it wasn’t.

With all said, I didn’t say the song was trash :-) Just that I don’t like when people do that, and as I should have said prior, “not give credit”. Apologies for not making that clear.

  22. C

I was a little weary of listening to this, but its actually pretty good…Welcome back Brandy

  23. hottness

    I loves ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. mofo

    @ All

Let me clarify even more jeez :-) my fault…

In an era with “hit producers”, “quarter of a million dollar budgets”, “best R&B writers in the game”, I find blatant rips appalling. I’m not comparing the song to coldplay, it is the exact same just sped up with accents.

It upsets me as a person that listens to music from all corners of the world and of prior decades back to classical. When “composers” of yesteryears (Quincy is a prime example) “created” a song. He “created” a song. It was fresh, it was like “damn”. You know? The stuff he did for MJ – straight composition, that is a producer to me.

A lot of these “producers” that some think are at the top of the game often “rip” instead of “create”, it is a lack of musicianship in my book.

Once again, not saying the song sucks as Brandy did her thing, but the producers IMO disrespected another – if you are ok with that, cool, I’m not, thats all.

  25. Jerarrin

BRANDY IS BACK!!! Love her voice! Love the song!!! I really hope this song does very well because she deserves it!

  26. Lion

I’m soo glad Brandy is back!!! I will definitely support her as always.

I’m shocked. I never knew she could sing like this. I though she was whack but this track just might change the industry

  32. Wilderbeast

ok…so my “good” friend is a brandy fanatic…so i hav3 to be hush hush on this one….but i wat to know what people think who are not brandy LAMES…damn…i like her too…but some of yall be acting like she god…and if yall had to choose to save her or your MOTHER….lets just say..momma would be lost!…i do like brandy..im a fan…BUT..honestly…this aint it…The song needs somemore personalzation…it sounds slightly generic…no brandy flavor that she always put on…But im sure, like afrodisiac the best songs will be left to the album cut so im keeping my eyes open.

  33. Hannah

Brandy is BACK and the haters can’t take. She’s coming for wigs. Pin your lacefronts DOWNE ladies. B-Rocka is reclaiming her throne. That is all.

  37. Wendell

THIS IS AN EXTREMELY SMART MOVE ON Brandy’s Behalf!

This is a POP SONG, she is going back to the Never-Say-Never format where the songs will be more middle of the road, and will no doubt garner attention from all sides.

This is somethin Rihanna has done well in her career! But Brandy did it first!

  38. MEL

    Come the HELL ON BRAN!!!!!

B-Rocka is BACK!! The song is a #1 HIT!

  39. tia

omg i emailed you guys about this last night at like 12 am my time and i wake up and find it as the first thing up!!! (i would like to think i had something to do with this lol j/k)

anyway i love it alot, but i do think that it wont be recieved well…..unless she has a great feature on it for the video (prolly chris brown or ne-yo or even kanye) we shall see who she put on there but frankly i would play this song out,i listened to it like 4 times last night….her vocals sound great!

  40. Wendell

    RE: 43

I think you, like many others are thinking of the song in terms of getting play on the Black stations, when the song has a very broad audience its attempting to appeal to. This song will make great plays in Europe, it will be a great club remix song, and it will do fine on urban stations because of the soulful rifts.

Umbrella without Jay-Z wasn’t a ubran song, this is somewhere in that vein. Also think Alicia Keys “No One.”

  41. dee dee

I’m not sure what to say. I LOVE Brandy, the girl is just bad. I’m sure the album will be fire and on heavy rotation with me. This particular song, it’s OK for me. I need that hot video to go with it. So glad Brandy is back. All these other chicks have been boring me to death!

  52. soreal

monica new song is way better than this song, this song isn’t good enuff to be first single.

  53. ******Dame( I love it)

I just listened to the song again and I really hope Brandy kicks in the door with her return and her people should try to get her on Fashion Rocks. I was so disappointed that one year on BET she was performing at the awards preshow. I was like Brandy is a major star and she was used at the pre show.

@57 I haven’t heard Monica new song yet what is the name of it?

  54. Emma V's Great-Grandaughter

    The song is hot.
