POLITICS: BARACK OBAMA’S DNC SPEECH + PHOTOS
Friday, August 29, 2008
On Thursday, more than 84,000 people jammed into Invesco Field at Mile High stadium to hear Sen. Barack Obama accept his historic nomination.
Obama explained to a roaring crowd that we must decide between four more of the last eight years or a new direction aimed at ending the conflict in Iraq and easing economic insecurities of working families. “These challenges are not all of government’s making, but the failure to respond is a direct result of a broken politics in Washington and the failed policies of George W. Bush. . . . I say to the American people, to Democrats and Republicans and independents across this great land: Enough!”

What a great day for America…I’m so proud of Obama and this country…finally living up to the true meaning of it’s creed, that all men are created equal.
Let’s put our feet to the ground and work harder then ever to get Obama elected as our next President.

Barack Obama has to the best public speaker in the history of American politics. I don’t know but I think he’s converted a few Hilary supporters, republicans, and independents alike. Looking at him on that stage, I saw Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and Marcus Garvey rolled into one.
OBAMA ‘08…..Please get out and vote on November 4, 2008.

Obama gets it. We want change. I do not want the same people making the same decisions all over again. We need this America NEEDS this change. This will move us forward as a country not just here but across the planet.
I cried through out the speech. I never thought this would happen, maybe once I had children and they were grown, and I’m on 25. I am so proud and so fired up. I watched history this week, every day of that convention was history and it culminated into that speech last night and I don’t think I blinked while watching it. I can have a child and tell them anything is possible and believe it. Obama is the change I BELIEVE IN!

I dont care what anyone has to say…. anything is better than McSame and my vote is for Obama… I had an upset stomach last night so I could not watch the whole speech but I left the t.v. on in the living room while I was resting and I could just hear from the crowd what a great speech he was giving.. and sure enough this morning that is all people were talking about on the news..
Say what you want to say but this man is our next president whether these jealous pathetic haters like it or not… Hiliary supporters who say they will vote for McSame are fools… I dont understand what it is about Obama they dont like.. people act like he has done something personal to them.. .I want to know what it is..
If Bill Clinton can swallow his pride and support Obama so can Hiliary supporters and I believe Obama has officially converted more than a few last night!

Not only by his words of change but by the historical significance of this election and just to see all those people in the stands last night was very remarkable. It’s up to us, the younger generation to get out there and put Obama in the Oval Office. We need a change, and we need one now!
PS I love the chemistry between the Bidens and the Obamas, its very genuine!

I thought i was gonna miss it since I had to go out. I sat and watched the whole thing twice. That man is just fantastic. He took every attack that McCain has been pushing and attacked it back. He is such an inspiration. No longer will someone snicker when a little black kid say I want to be President. The youth of today have someone to look up to and should realize now that anything is possible no matter how people around you may say it’s not. I am so proud to be a African-American more so I am proud to be an American. To see the various hues in the crowd last night. Every time I see a Obama 08 bumper sticker it is not a black person but an older white person, I am touched. So many of my friends are inspired and so am I !

Well considering I’m pretty apathetic about the whole President thing, since the House and the Senate, make most of the decisions that truly affect the citizens, I wasn’t expecting to hear anything except ‘change, change, change’, which was getting very old. But finally hearing him talk about his policies, and what he HOPES to change within government, really struck a cord within me. If he is voted president, I guess only time will tell if we’ll actually see all of this change that he vows to make.

His voice is annoying, can’t stand it.
His wife is extremly ugly.
His kids should fear thier life everyday (That’s not a good thing to put little kids through).
His lips are too black for me, oh yeah, HE TOOK DRUGS.
Obama still doesn’t fool me..he’s so fake to me. Y’all could come attack me, I don’t give a shit because I know what I know. I wish Hillary was chosen not Obama, Hillary makes way more sense. Do y’all really think Obama is going to stay alive for the next year? No way Jose. I’m sure plenty of people right now are planning to kill him….he’s going to be the MLK Jr. of this generation. I rebuke all the demons that are making people do so, but it’s being honest. IF OBAMA WINS HE’S GOING TO SCREW UP SO BAD THAT Y’ALL ARE GOING TO WISH THAT YOU NEVER VOTED FOR HIM. Do you not realize that you guys are expecting so much from him? He is NOT going to follow through, I’m saying he WILL NOT do what you think he’s going to do. HE IS LYING TO Y’ALL AND WE ALL WILL REGRET IT!! Y’all may think I’m wierd but I’m telling you, God speaks to me. I have predicted things that exactly happened in my life, and something deep down inside me is tellling me that something REALLY REALLLY bad is going to happen with this election. Don’t believe me, but we all see when it happens.

I’m the “Undecided” the person that the Demorats/Republicans are trying to reach. I was quite impressed with Baraq last night. I pretty much am going to lend my support to Obama. While his wife body language is horrible, “Both her & Solange need to take classes” I believe he’s the man with the plan. What turned me off earlier was his supporters were over the top. They made you not want to vote for him. I’m a quiet voter, a majority of Undecided aren’t swayed by P Diddy, shiny suit antics. Earlier in the year when we had to choose for Hillary/Obama, I went to the voting place & Obama supporters were acting straight up ghetto. The polling place is not a place to start drama. The right to vote is not a joke, I pray that his supporters stay professional. I like the fact that our people interviewed spoke professional, and kept to the topics without giving shout outs to Ray Ray and nem….
People go to the polls & vote for who you choose. Set a positive example and don’t turn others off with antics & negative speak. It will turn off voters & make people stay at home. Let’s pray for our next president, “He’s gonna have a full plate, somebody has to fix this whole Bush fiasco.

I am telling you what took place last night has moved me beyond what words can express. In our lifetime, we have witnessed what can be accomplished if you are determined and God is in your life. Who will know what is the ultimate outcome but at this moment I am proud to be a Nigerian American, I am proud of the accomplishments of the Obama and of the people of this nation who stand up and say “no more we are done, we are moving on, American will and can change and I will be apart of this movement. We can do it, yes we can.”
Best line from last night, this is not about one man, this is about you.

I keep waiting to hear about the “change” that Senator Obama is talking about. His policies are not new. He has the same tax and spend policies that most liberal democrats have been pushing forever. He thinks that what makes this country great is government, not people. He thinks that the federal goverment should babysit its citizens and provide all of our needs. For those of you out there, who are TRULY on your grind, those of you who are entrepreneurs and future business owners and leaders… it is YOUR wallet that he is after. If you have never read the writings of Karl Marx, I suggest you do so. Senator Obama is about as close to a Marxist as I’ve seen run for President in my lifetime. All I can say is achievers beware. Now don’t get it twisted, I’m certainly no McCain fan, but I still haven’t found a reason to vote for Obama.

With the unprecedented success and overall innovation of his campaign; the Democratic Presidential Nomination and America (black white asian etc) behind him, Barack Obama is poised to become the most influential Black American of our time.
On the 45th Anniversary of the “I Have A Dream” speech, Barack Obama used the better of forty minutes to affirm what he stands for and how the election is more about the people of the United States than he as one man. Orating skills aside, Presidential Nominee Barack Obama tapped into the consciousness of more than 84,000 attendees and millions of viewers watching from home and he stayed their, in the hearts and minds, for the duration of his speech which commemorated the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
CHANGE, Change, cHange, chanGe: He beckoned, “Change is not coming from Washington. Rather, Change is coming TO Washington.” Barack eloquentlly answered all of the cynical criticizms frequently directed at him. He answered the charge of inexperience, the question of his patriotism, the integrity of his character and most importantly, the uncertainty of his plans for the country. He dealt with these trifling sidebar notions, dismissing them as stale tactics of invoking fear in the American voters, asking them to trust the politics and policies we’ve been adhearing to for nearly a decade. With the resounding declaration, “We cannot turn back”, Barack Obama clearly outlined the differences between his policies and those of hooves-in-concrete McCain and Republicans, all without calling into question the character, integrity, patriotism and veteran heroism of John McCain. In a word: diplomacy.
In cementing his platform and agenda for Presidency, with conviction and fervor, Obama laid down the blueprint for sustaining and recusistating the domestic workforce. He made his position clear on several key civil issues where he and the conservatives disagree: abortion, gay marriage and civil unions, gun ownership, and immigration and labor laws most notably reasoning that it is okay to agree to disagree as long as the needs of the Americans are met.
Honoring those who blazed the trail that opened the doors for this very moment, Barack held up the legacies of Martin Luther King, Franklin Roosevelt, John Kennedy, even collectively “The Clinton’s” to include his formal party rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton. The emotion flooded over in the eyes and mouths of all of those witnessing the history in the making - as a leader vowed to do his part in accentuating the Democratic legacy and perpetuating the American Dream.
In a speech riddled with applause (it took several minutes for the crowd to stop clapping when Obama emerged on the stage) the power of change in this country had its biggest, proudest night thus far. American must now realize that THIS IS OUR MOMENT.

Phenomenal speech during a historical moment. He covered all points and did it very well. My favorite thing to see besides the speech was how mixed the crowd was, black, white, spanish, jewish, hindu, etc. They were standing side by side with tears in their eyes. They were holding hands, conversing, and hugging. Last nite was not about race, age, gender, or sexual orientation. Everyone was united which is what we are suppose to stand for and what he’s bringing back. The negative people in here are simply full with self hatred because this man nor his family has done nothing to you.

First of all we must remember that Bush has had the worst approval rating in the history of the presidency and no one has brought harm to him..

third-Obama is a man..he is not perfect..we all know that…however, he is a proven leader with enough wisdom to be an effective president

Have to give credit to the Republicans (however much I hate their policies, they are rather good at winning elections; even in a year when the Democrats should own the election).
McCain just won in November! Obama is barely even in the polls, and now, after a lackluster convention marked by his failure to pick Hillary Clinton as his VP, which, however risky to his little world, would have at least energized Democrats. Instead we have a tird old warhorse like Biden (with an embellished, and even so, uninteresting bio).
Obama ran a fantastic campaign against HRC, but he’s been untterly uninspiring since.
For those of you who make the banal point that women won’t switch to McCain because this is so obviously a pandering choice, are African Americans voting for Obama because he’s black? Politicans who pander, successfully, win elections!

Okay, let’s take your scenario, let’s say that McCain does die before the end of his term. Okay, so essentially we’d be comparing her resume w/ Obama’s, correct? Now you say that Palin is inexperienced. Really?! Aren’t you an Obama supporter? Aren’t you an agent of change? Aren’t you someone that supports “new politics, w/ fresh ideas”? Do you not believe that Sarah Palin, represents this?
Sure she may not represent the “change” that you agree w/ but she’d definitely bring some “change” and “fresh ideas” to the politics in D.C.
Everything that you’ve said about her are the same things that Democrats have said about Obama, so now I ask, “Why aren’t you ready for change?” LOL

@37 NIKKI MARTIN:. *GOD WATCHING US*… You better get out of here with that o’l slave mentality. The ideals you speak are the same of the people who told Harriet Tubman to go on head with her silly underground railroad idea. And that Sojourner Truth that a woman needs to stay in their place. And that Dr. MLK is just an silly old preacher boy a DREAMER. If everyone had that fearful mentality that you speak of then imagine. Just imagine where we would be.
I do understand your fear, but it is fear that has lead this country into the deficit that we are in. Bush has played on our fears. And John Mccain is doing the same thing. All we can do as humans is live off of hope.
Jesus himself was cast out by the Sadducees making him an outcast and stating that he could not be God because he was imperfect. The same with Barack, yes he has made mistakes and experimented with drugs, but so did Clinton. But he did alright didn’t he?
Barack knew the risk that the accepting the presidency entails. But that is why he has V.P. Biden who supports his views if anything should happen to him. Like J.F.K. picked Lydon b. Johnson and he followed up with J.F.K’s policies, passing the civil rights legislation.
And as far as his wife being ugly. That has nothing to do with his policies. I would rather him have a ugly wife than be all pro-black with a white wife. Some people are just never satisfied.
And to Mccain’s V.P. pick. I am happy for her but I am also insulted that Mccain thinks that just because I am a woman I will vote for this woman with no experience ever in the senate. When his behind is one heartbeat away from death. She has only been the governor for two years has no foreign policy experience and is voting against the right to privacy Roe v. Wade. It is not just a case about Abortion it is about our fundamental right to privacy. And this woman is being investigated on her ETHICS!!! Do you really want that type of woman as your back up president. I don’t.
This is just my opinion….

Biden may be a snake, but most politicians are when the C.E.O. position is at stake! We’d be saying the same thing if Obama chose Clinton as his VP, so that argument his thrown out the window.
Palin may balance McCains ticket but the choice absolutely screams desperation on his part. People are throwing approval numbers of 80 % in the air like they really mean something but in her case, they don’t. She’s from Alaska, a frozen tundra of 700,000 where 70% are white and the largest minority are Native American/Alaskan. I would assume she would have high approval numbers, lol.
Her trump card will be on the energy crisis, where she was working on freeing up reserves to lower the oil prices but that’s the only real legitimate thing I see her bringing to the table for McCain, especially with a hurricane threatening to shut down the gulf in the next few days. She’s already proven that she thinks like older politicians by using her position to have her ex-brother-in-law fired from his job for divorcing her sister (does that sound like change and progress to you?) Oh well…no need in going on with this mess…

The difference is, that Hillary had like what 18 million supporters and Biden had like what–500,000? LOL, Biden brings absolutely nothing to Obama’s ticket, he’s not only a snake–he’s a useless one at that.
Selecting Palin may scream desperation, but its also that desperation that will get him elected. Say what you want but picking her was an excellent and unexpected thing to do!

but as someone who has been closely following the campaign trail (i am not american by the way) i thought that Barack’s speech was the best he has ever delivered! He came out and he humanised himself, he spoke of every single issue that needed to be addressed and he made his status known based on the issue of commander in chief! most importantly, he did not just speak of ‘change’ but he went into the specifics! that is what i wanted to hear - the details! and he did not leave any room for criticism from the republicans! I am in love with this man and i know it is irrational but it is as if every time i see him, i just feel somehow. I know i sound incredibly stupid but there is just something about him that is immensely attractive, and not just to me i am sure. And his family is just absolutely beautiful. His daughters are so precious and pretty, and his wife is the epitome of a strong, intellectual and beautiful black woman. I and I surmise other girls like me can only dream of a future family like this, and a husband like Barack Obama…. Barack the vote!

@ #37—- daaaaaaaaang homegirl!!! Hella on edge. Can’t argue with God talking to you (real talk) however … I’m hoping he whispers some words of Love into your heart bc that whole hateful rant about his lips and wife were completely unecessary and have nothing to do with the issues at hand.
…….BTW he is a P.I.L.F in MY book!
@post- I had chills…..it’s a special moment when you KNOW you are witnessing history…regardless of the outcome…we have been a part of something our great great grandkids will be reading about in the history books.

Thanks for the post J Dakar but why didnt you post about Mccain and his VP pick? Im not supporting the guy or anything but you should be a little more bias and give people the other side of this election so people wont make comment mindless comments like ” Fuck Mccain old ass” lol. Obama gets my vote but you should still question everything instead of just falling for propaganda.

I find it funny that when a person says that GOD talks to them, everybody else thinks he/she is crazy. On the flipside, those that ridicule that very individual have the nerve to turn around and say that they “need Jesus” or “imma pray for you”.
Just wanted to throw that out there…

“The difference is, that Hillary had like what 18 million supporters and Biden had like what–500,000? LOL, Biden brings absolutely nothing to Obama’s ticket, he’s not only a snake–he’s a useless one at that.”
LOL. I mentioned that before, and I agree 150% No argument from me on that point.

@37, I don’t think that’s God taking to ya dear….check urself.
I think Obama is a solid candidate.
The only thing that worries me, is that this country is just not ready for a black president, and that some racist backwards idiot will try to do something to him.
I hope not, I really do. But I’ll tell ya this, even at where I work, most of the white people have said out loud that things should stay the same.
Ever since this election process has started, I have heard the most ignorant things come out of people’s mouths….

You mentioned that Obama did drugs - what of Cindy McCain? She stole drugs from her own charity - everyone has faults and imperfections.

Woww the time for change is now!
The revolution will be televised!
Obama is breathtaking..he is definitely one of the best speakers of all time. I wish I were American just so I could vote this year; Canadian politics have nothing on this. I watch Obama and listen to his speeches, and I can tell that every word spoken is genuwine; i can tell that he is a man that values his word and that will bring about change. It has nothing to do with the fascination the world is fixated on- that a black man will be the next American president, but that a GREAT man will be the next American president. A lot is riding on Obama, but I know he will deliver.
Amazing speech, cant wait to see more of these.
His family and the image of a strong united black family are all too inspirational.
