Meet Michelle Obama, whose rousing headlining speech kicked off the Democratic National Convention Monday night.
Her mom said she’d be watching nervously as Michelle delivered her big speech, but predicted her daughter wouldn’t be because “she’s very confident, and I think that comes from being sure of who you are.”
FL, MI VOTES COUNTED
To restore party unity, the Democratic National Committee voted unanimously Sunday to restore full convention voting rights to Florida and Michigan delegates.
Both states had been penalized by the DNC Rules Committee for holding their primaries in January, were stripped of their delegates and barred from attending the convention.
Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton really pushed that the delegates be seated and the votes counted, particularly because she won both Michigan and Florida. After Democratic presumptive nominee Barack Obama captured the necessary delegates to be nominated at the convention, Clinton conceded.
As a result of Sunday’s decision, the number of delegates required to claim the nomination will rise.
CLINTON TO RELEASE DELEGATES TO OBAMA
Following the news that Florida and Michigan would have their votes counted, a Democratic official said Sen. Hillary Clinton would likely release her delegates to Sen. Barack Obama.
Clinton is scheduled to meet with her delegates at a reception in Denver on Wednesday. “[The reception is] an opportunity for Sen. Clinton to see her delegates — many for the first time since the primaries ended — thank them for their hard work and support and most importantly, to encourage them to support and work for Sen. Obama as strongly as she has, in order to elect him in November,” Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines said.
Because Clinton suspended her campaign instead of actually dropping out, she retained the delegates she earned during the primary season.

I think it’s great when u get a background story on a person who is in the lime light. It’s extremely touching to hear how they grew up – and it shows u that they could have been the person sitting next to u on the seat in the bus. There are so many people out there who are trying to make life better for other people. I like to hear these type of stories.

It’s been a while since there has been a female African American role model (outside of the Entertainment Industry). TO ME! That I felt like I wanted to aspire to be like… I’m sorry but I dont want to be Beyonce, or Oprah for that matter and they don’t always make me proud.
I’m not saying Michelle is a saint, but she certainly inspires me and makes me very proud to be an African American women.

She seems like a lovely person and she does stand as a role model to black women NOT just in America but around the world, and that truly is a beautiful thing. For young and mature women around the world to look up to such a great family, they will make such an impact.
Michelle’s speech brought me to tears. I can see the genuine love, admiration and respect that Michelle and Obama have for one another. Not only is she the woman that is standing beside her man, she is the black woman and mother that is inspiring my nieces, cousins and god daughters… Michelle, when I grow up, I want to be just like you.

Michelle was outstanding. BRAVO!!!!! She was passionate, honest, real, caring, warm, etc. I could go on an on but ya’ll saw her. Michelle has the guts, passion, education, loyalty and poise to be a wonderful first lady. She represented for this country last night like no other I’ve ever heard in my lifetime. Ted Kennedy and Jesse Jackson, Jr. also did their thing. Just looking at the people at the convention and how moved they were with her speech tells me that this country is definitely ready for change. Can their daughters be any cuter? I almost forgot to add that Michelle looked wonderful last night. Her hair was on POINT!! All shiny and healthy.
The travesty of America is that white folks in America have to be “convinced” that Black people’s stories are “American” stories. If I hear someone, anyone say that Hawaii (a damn state in our union) is “exotic” I just might snap and do something regrettable. Can someone tell me when is the day to VOTE for the presidential election? I thought it was today the 26th but know I’m unsure.
The General Election is Nov. 4, 2008. It’s always on the Tuesday following the first Monday of November (Nov. 4-8, typically) of the election year. This is the day you vote for the next President of the United States, unlike Primaries where you’re voting for your pick among the Democratic candidates running for the nomination.
