POLITICS: OBAMA HECKLED IN FLORIDA; LETS PROTESTORS ASK HIM QUESTIONS

Saturday, August 2, 2008

Three young African-American protestors, and two white women, interrupted Barack Obama at an economic town hall in Florida Friday, accusing the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee of neglecting the black community.

The protestors — who held a sign reading “What About the Black Community, Obama?” – said the Illinois senator had not been active enough on issues of interest to African-Americans, ranging from the impact of subprime mortgages to the shooting of Sean Bell and the government’s response to Hurricane Katrina.

Obama urged the audience – which began to boo the hecklers – to calm down, before addressing one of the men directly. “I think you’re misinformed. Everything you mentioned I did speak about,” he said, listing legislative initiatives and statements on those issues as the men continued to shout at him and the crowd began to chant “Yes, We Can,” the Obama campaign’s cheer.

Keep reading to see the video of the young man asking Sen. Barack Obama his questions and so on..

Despite the negative press people, we STILL can, don’t let the negative press discourage you! McCain and his camp are working hard to discredit and sully Obama’s image because they know he can’t win on just his platform. Don’t be discouraged people, OBAMA 08!!

Interesting CL….as yet no comments on political news and issues facing our economic welfare. If this was a story about Beyonce’s stained pants or Ashanti seeking her lifelong dream as a singer and trying to survive in the music industry despite the challenges…..then this post would reach 200-300 comments. Guess your people only feel it is necessary to comment when the self hate and hatred for others is brewing.

These are Black Militants who clearly have neglected to their research. Militants are by and large ineffective in getting anything done because they fail to see that progress comes from the center out! They were also quite immature in their approach to getting their questions answered. I was especially proud (as a law studnet myself) watching Barack POINT by POINT break down each and every point they made with an intelligent and FACTUAL response.

We are seriously in political silly season.

@ 3. I put political posts and social commentary out there because it needs to be out there. I could care less if anyone comments. You just brought your own negativity into the post, so you’re doing the same thing that you just spoke of. Makes you think, huh?

As for this post, I actually thought that dude made some valid points. That’s what politics and democracy is about. At least he didn’t kick them out though, because you know McCain and them would have.

Wow…. It is sad I see it now. Everything that appears to be true is not. All I can do is shake my head at many being deceived. Everyone should come together though because from what I see the new order is in process. Maybe I over analyze things because I read a lot but whatever.

Obama is such a charismatic and tactful leader. He never lost his control despite being attacked by his own kind. Those protestors only wanted to cause chaos and get TV time — if they really were upset about attacks on the “African community” then they would throw their full support behind Obama and vote for him as the first black U.S. president.

They sounded really stupid saying they never heard Obama talk one time about those issues. First of all, it’s impossible to read or hear everything that Obama says — he’s quoted in countless newspaper articles, has been interviewed hundreds of times on TV and posts a plethora of information on his Web site. Let’s not forget about all the transcripts from Congress meetings and other speaking engagements.

These people are fools, but will not and cannot knock the Yes We Can movement off course.

Sen. Obama is black, black issues are his issues..but that doesn’t mean he has to talk about black issues every chance he gets. It’s not just about winning the black vote and if he did talk about black issues as much as some people would like him to, we all know he’d be condemned in the media as playing the race card. I swear I wish people would just fall back and let him do him…

Because Obama happens to be of a black descent….I think some ppl expect him to treat black people in a special manner. America consist of so many races and as a president…you can’t throw one race on a stool and but the other races on a back burner. At the end of the day…we are ALL human beings, no matter what color our skin is. People shouldnt expect him to cater only to the black community.

SMH, black people tryna start drama. I sure hope this doesnt affect Obama’s chances, with the black vote.

Obama handled this like how a LEADER should handle his business. Patient and well mannered with those trouble makers.

Why should Obama help JUST black people?? ALL Americans are facing problems in these tough economic times. The government shouldnt be blamed for all our woes, WE need to take responsibility for our actions.

Those fools protesting are the very people who sound like they’ve been listening to the likes of Sharpton and Jackson, you know race-baiting, while straying away from the real matters at hand.

@ 16. You’re right. But many minorities have the mindset that prior presidents have been catering to “their” communities and treating “their” people in a special manner, since the US’s conception. When Obama came along, they are thinking they finally have a voice in the White House. But people need to realized that he needs to appeal to everyone in order to win. Hopefully, he will keep his word on many of the issues he has addressed.

Hurting us in 08 could truly be devasting. let obama in and watch, remembering there are two supreme court judges seat avaible, lets not be foolish. Fight this injustice by supporting a first black president who would have to be vocal and can make changes. We are too close to slip up now tell our black community to be wise with their approach. Try and put mccain off base go to his townhall meetings and respectfully ask the questions. Let the first question be, what were you thinking when you voted against the martin luther king holiday? what can i say, barack must move to the middle to get elected ; and the way he’s been changing his positions have indicated thus so. the problem i have is; when he tells us people which raised eyebrows that if you put air in your tires or keep them inflated. that this would save gas . well mr. obama does that just doesn’t justify the reason gas prices are high and all the oil profit cause my tire pressure is low. its that bush and the saudi’s are hoarding the money, and its the reason the troops are in the middle east fighting for the middle east oil interest. ‘lets not get besides ourselves’. could it be your still feeling that overseas vibe? well lets not get to far up in the clouds. the establishment has ways to knock folks off their mountains. i hope we are not smell’n our own piss. sometimes you sound like your coming out of LEFT FEILD AT SOME OF THESE CAMPAIGN RALLIES. could it be burn-out?

….That was the answer of a politician. I was actually quite disturbed by his statement regarding the Sean Bell verdict but I see that he can’t just be the black president and by him speaking on every black tragedy, he will lose a large portion of his voters. I’m just hoping that he stays real ONCE he’s elected…

I think that the those guys that spoke out against Obama at that townhall meeting made a valid point. I think that Obama is trying extremely hard to distance himself to the minorities and it has really pushed some voters away. He is trying to appease the white people so he will not lose their vote because he thinks that the black folks will stay loyal to him. I’m was an Obama supporter and over the last couple of weeks, I have somewhat been on the fence. I am a black young african american and I think it will be DOPE to have the very 1st black president, but I’m not a fan of his policies. I have young children and he was against the voucher system that would have given parents the opportunity to send their children to private schools. Obama children goes to private schools, why can’t some of the lower income family have the opportunity to send their children to a private school?? McCain was for the voucher system. Barack doesn’t believe in offshore drilling because we wouldnt produce oil until about 3 years or so. That isn’t a short-term fix but it is a fix that we could benefit from in the next few years to come. It will take about 20 years or more to create some sort of new energy that would have an impact to which we could become less dependent on oil. McCain is for offshore drilling. Barack states we should inflate our tires to the proper level and that would have an effect on gas mileage. I could go on and on and on about Barack’s policy that I do not support. I’m a true democrat and my heart has chosen Barack as our next president, but my mind doesn’t agree with my heart at the current time. I hoping that will change, but Barack keeps shifting his positions on policies and that pushes me away.

I’ve been following this race since the beginning of 2007 and I hope he puts Hillary on his ticket as VP. I feel that if he did that then that could guarantee my vote because experience would be in the ticket. Barack feels that Hillary would outshine him and take away from him being the 1st black president but he has to remember that he isn’t celebrity and it is about our country best interest at heart. If you were to ask me, if he doesn’t choose Hillary as VP then he loses her 18 million voters and McCain wins because the polls are extremely close. Obama should be beating McCain by a landslide but he isn’t. Once he upset Hillary’s Supporters by not choosing her as his running mate then he will lose against McCain hands down.. I spoken to the majority of Hillary’s supporters and almost all of the ones that U have spoken to black, hispanic, latino, and whites have said that they are just waiting for Barack to choose his running mate and if it isn’t Hillary they are voting for McCain. I just hope for the sake of our country that he makes the best decision.

Barack for President ( I THINK??? )

I absolutely agree with #3

I have been reading these post for the past 10 months and I concluded with this same observation. Are people simply politically retarded and star blinded?

There are two kinds of people on this site…either bandwagon jumpers or just haters. But you get your occasional few who want something more.

First off: Rihanna isn’t cute! Paint her blue and she’s the equivalent of the cookie monster. There are far more women on this website alone (for those who post profile pictures) who are much cuter, prettier if not sexier than she is! There’s more to life than her balengicia shoes and her stupid coon relationship with Chris Brown…however, these are the post that are the most populated!

These black men who heckled at Obama aren’t different from the few people who post here on this website. Granted, there are some people here who are passionate about this election race and who have important things to say. Some have beautiful passionate things to say about the race and add perspectives that are hardly talked about in the news. But there are others who simply just adore Obama, possibly, for the sheer fact that he’s black. Between the hecklers and the folks on this website, while the intentions are different, each are blinded by that one thing: race!

We can’t ignore race…but if we really wanna put this colorblind card in every of our argument lets start arguing plateform and drop the race card for just two seconds; and, PLEASE, stop with the beyonce, ashanti and these watched up coons who are no better and not even prettier than some of the sistahs and brothas walking around my neighborhood without 15 pounds of makeup and leased designer clothes.

I’m done!

This is what the process is about those young men have a right to express themselves and thankfully they gave Senator Obama a chance to respond!! Remember this is an uphill battle for this man, he is fighting racism, self hating black folks (Jesse Jackson/Bob Johnson/Magic) people trying to undermine him by attacking his family, his ideals and religious belief. He is the pride of the black community yes, but he is trying to be an American President and last time I checked America is not 100% black. He cannot be expected to do more for the black community just because he is black?? What would have been said if a white president showed blatantly obvious favoritism to a sector of people? Other races would shut him down, call him out!! Do you really feel because he is black that is focus should be soley black people? Grow up, if that was his agenda he would never get elected and then where would your country be!

Yes He Can, but he must be given the chance first!!! OBAMA 08!

This right here .. is for the birds, Yes they might have a valid point .. but why question Obama, or better yet why not focus there slogan “ What about the Black Community” during McCains speeches or Bush? This is the exact thing that we as African Americans have got to get it together.. he is running for the president of the United States not the hood!!! And do they really think that if he wins he will ignore these very important topics, I think not.. They will interrupt his speech say he is not for the black community. But in reality they should be asking themselves if McCain gets elected will he!! HELL TO THA NAH!!!!! Wake up and stop stepping on each other DAMN..

President of the US must be able to address ALL issues that affect our country. Not just Black ones because he is Black. He is only ONE man. He IS a Black man, so he is not ignorant to the issues we face. We won’t see him walking around red, black, and green dashiki’s any time soon though so people need to stop waiting on him to be Al Sharpton like.

All this talk about America is not just composed Black folks and that’s why Obama is not focusing too much on issues important to minorities like vouchers and affirmative action is plain bull shit! EVERY race looks out for their own, why should Obama excluded from this because he’s running for president?

@ 34. You must be one of those hecklers. Offshore drilling wont produce any real effects on the price of gas untill 10 years, Get your facts straight. To me it is pointless and will be costly to go drilling. It just makes the nation feel better when McCain says he supports offshore drilling. He’s just playing on our frustrations with the cost of gas. What we need to do is get out of the Middle East, those are the main people who control the prices at the pump.

@ 12. I completely agree with you. Obama is not going to be the president of the Black American community, he’s going to be the president of the United States of America. Not that we don’t matter in this country, but we only make up 12.3% of the population. Although it would be nice for him to tackle issues that effect us directly, there are so many other issues that he has to cover that are more important and that will essentially determine whether he gets elected or not. Namely; healthcare, education, the war in Iraq, Immigration, homeland security, and the economy just to name a few.

He is very smart and he has a good team behind him, he’s thinking strategically which is what all politicians do. He and his wife do have a passion for our community and I’m sure that he will undertake a lot of the issues that plague the Black American community. But untill then he’s running to be president, not a black leader like Jackson or Sharpton.

If he all of a sudden focused his attention soley on the black population do you really think the country (save for the 12% of us), let alone the world would take him seriously. Come on now.

This has nothing to do with “our own race” acting ignorant. He, just as any white person towards a white politician and/or a black politician has the right to ask questions and be critical of any individual who is running for the highest office in the land. Black people erroneously refer to other black people who ask questions or attempt to hold people to task as Militants (just as the American government often does black civil rights activists). There have been white people who have made similar comments about Obama’s actions towards the black community but I definitely don’t think you would call them militants. Hell they once called Martin L. King a militant. I totally agree with what Angel said at #18. We should not expect him to fully represent the entire black population in a such a mixed America, in that case he would be seen as “too black”.
However, People of color should hold Obama to task just as they would McCain. There is no political discrimination here. For centuries white politicians have been in office as well as some blacks, elected by the help of the black community and continuously our issues, concerns, and related topics have been averted and looked over once individuals attain the position they intended to seek. I see such actions as keeping Obama on track. He is in the position to answer questions accordingly and hopefully sway minds. Anyone who does not have the intellect to question what is given to them will fall short every time. Ask questions, inquire, challenge, that is what you were given a brain for. I found it interesting and thought provoking when Obama gave the message on the issue of ‘missing fathers’ and choose to be race specific when dealing with black people directly and race neutral when dealing with whites directly as if there are only ‘black problems’. Acknowledging issues or disagreements with Barack Obama’s relation with the black community is not an ATTACK, this acknowledgment is a common occurrence for every other politician. If anything it helps use to better understand who he is and what he will bring to the table. It is obvious that black people have and will continue to support him we also hold the right to Hold Him To Task! Also, you may like to read this article about Obama’s stance on Slavery apology and reparations, it is interesting: http://news.yahoo.com/s/a...B8H01HfMT973.Ig2gT.Bh24cA

Why do they have to be “militant” just because they want to know what Obama will do Black people? Other special interest groups want to know what he’s going to do for them! They have valid questions. I would love to see Obama talk to Black Nationalists and Socialists…the ones who don’t fall for the okie doke or who aren’t about assimilating into yt hedonistic culture.

Essentially, what the hecklers want is more Left than what Obama is. On the scale from liberal to conservative, he’s sitting just to the left of the medium and honestly, he can’t go further than that or he’d lose. (See McKinney)

It’s interesting…people say Obama is all about change, but honestly he won’t be able to change too much because the country will still be controlled by the same people behind the scenes…and congress. Only 1/3 of the power people…executive, judicial, legislative…

I think the young people in this video would do better voting for McKinney and the Green party. They’re more liberal than the Democrats.

I think the militant brothers were effective in getting Obama to once again bring to rememberance of the people his stance on the issues that were discussed. Obama, cannot speak directly to the black community and say “Brotha, i’m with you on that, and when I get in office any officer, goverment, or political force that rises up against the black community will be punished.” There is a certain tact that Obama knows he must use to overcome these issues that ill us as a people. He is one (1) person; no matter what position a person has, he or she can not do it all by themselves. The best way for the black community or minority community to overcome our issues and ills of society is to become educated, inspired, and passionate for change and reformation of the black\african american and open or mouths and speak on it. What happen to the civil rights movement?

We say the government isn’t for the people (minotrities) so when are we going to govern ourselves according to our common goals as a people? It all starts with us as individuals. If we want to be more educated, go back to school, encourage one another to do the same. If we want to better our everyday lives, get a job, volunteer, help out younger children, teach someone how to read or \and write. Just start a movement for empowerment of all people. I know everyone is not blessed or fortunate to have the things that they feel would enable them to do better on a large scale, but remember we did not build Egypt in one day.

We are so much more than great athletes, singers, dancers, and trendsetters for America. We are brilliant, blessed, and powerful. That’s what they (those who oppose\oppress us) fear us and our abilities. Once we get this in our mind and let this drive us daily toward the progression we wish to see, we WILL be a better people and no one no system, no politic, no status, NOTHING will stop us.

#5….please PREACH for the kids

#8 angel….thanks for putting #3 in her place…but i dont agree with what you said about the hecklers…they were way out of line and the only reason they took liberty to disrupt the event was because it was a black candidate….i dare them to do that to mccain

#9….wtf are you talkin about? LOL

#34….please educate yourself….off shore drilling will not produce a drop of oil for at least 10 yrs (assuming it was approved today). there are many approved drilling sites all over america that have remained untouched…wouldn’t it make sense to drill from approved sites before trying to drill off shore? (which could cause severe environmental problems….and will do very little to lower gas prices). also, you mention the voucher for private schools…WHY ON EARTH would a public officer want to create a system where people are ditching public schools for private schools???!?…wouldn’t it make much more sense to invest in our public schools to make them better as opposed to throwing money at people so they can put their kids in private schools??!?!?

#34…(continued)….hillary’s “18 million voters” are 18 million people who can think for themselves. are there hillary supporters that wont support obama? hell yes!….but most of them will. and honestly…take those polls with a grain of salt. some of them are tampered with to make the race seem closer than it is…it keeps people interested…which leads to higher ratings…which leads to more advertising dollars. furthermore, the polls only include people with landlines…many people under 40 only have cell phones…they also overwhelmingly support barack obama. (ps: hillary just about the same amount of experience as obama…i dont care who her husband was)

PHEW….almost forgot what this damn post was about (and what i wanted to say!)…anyways, those hecklers are the kind of black people that really bother me….they spend all day talking about what has been done to the community (and whipping themselves into a persistently bitter mood) but they really dont do much to change anything. they tend to be clueless (as is obvious in the video) about what should be done in order to make things change….they’re dumb, tactless and, ironically, obstacles in the community they think they’re helping….i could go on and on but i’ll leave it there

For those that say Obama is trying to distance himself from minority issues, how is that possible when it is brought up in every interview, debate, townhall meeting etc. Nobody bothers to ask McCain half the questions Obama is asked. Of course this incident will be exploited like “Does Obama fully have the black vote?” and “Is he in touch with the African American community?” It is frustrating because people continue to fall for the oke-doke: meaning that people will try determine whether he is black enough. Why do you think the media continually brings up his “arrogance” and “elitism” because you know McCain is as downhome as apple pie right! Riiiiiiggghtttt. Oke-doke. These militants have swallowed the media’s bull and added fuel to the fire. But Obama still shines anyway.

The fact that these posts don’t have many comments on them is sorta good thing, it means that pple respect politics & won’t rant about gibberish like they would on a Beyonce post thus resulting in 800 comments. Pple only say shit, when they have bad shit to say, idk, lol.

#43….i somewhat agree….it shows white voters he isn’t “too black” but it also reminds them about race and how an obama presidency will inevitably lead to constant discussion of race and race relations (which scares them to death)

#46….u neglect to mention that in the ’60s and ’70s…it was necessary to be millitant because racism was overt….covert racism requires covert tactics….screaming and shouting like a damn fool does absolutely nothing.

ps: honestly, if i hear one more word about the jena six or sean bell (r.i.p) i will lose my muthaf**kin mind…do we really think these are our biggest problems???!?!? what about our little girls getting pregnant all over the place (and the young boys who impregnate them)?….what about the aids rate amongst us?

pls, pls pls….its time to get our priorities straight

The protester made very valid points..the way he went about getting the attention on his question was wrong..but i digress. Obama is not perfect nor is he going to make the world all of a sudden a better place, however i think he can bring a much needed change to the country and world.

I find it so funny how the media tries to use any little thing against the man. A couple of examples the Ludacris thing, and the fact his middle name is Hussien, and the fact he gave his wife a fist bump, and the fact he went to Africa and was photographed in “muslim” attire, not to mention the whole reverend fiasco….geeesh. That is the Mccain and Republican party hard at work to try and paint him as a black radical, a terrorist fist bumping muslim etc. I mean really are people actually dumb enough to fall for this BS…I guess the answer is yes because “they” are trying their damn hardest to feed off of the fears of the public and have Obama looked at as someone that will bring the country into hell….as if that hasn’t already happened.

People either are not doing research, or they are not following Barack’s campaign… To say he’s neglecting problems of the black community just means they’re misinformed and probably are getting their information from FOX network stations. I put these guys in the same boat with Wright & Jackson…

@14…I agree.

What do you do when “the MAN” is a black man?

Anyway, I didn’t care for much of Barack’s response, but I do think he handled the hecklers (who had some great questions, even though the guy who spoke on their behalf was wrong in accusing Barack of “not once” addressing the issues he spoke of) very well. I think the hecklers protesting at Obama’s meeting as opposed to other candidates shows that they know that Obama can bring about the change that they want.

Katherine: I agree with you

So many of our people think that just because he is black his MAIN focus should be the black community. WRONG…He is running for the president of the UNITED STATES, not the president of the NAACP! Open up your eyes people, all this negativety will only ultimately put the person in office that doesnt care about ANYONES issues!

Barrack Obama is not runing for President of Black Americans….He is running for President of The United States of America…he cannot jus focus on primarly “African-American ” Issues… People have to look at the bigger picture there is no president that can solve every issue. He is jus a president he is not GOD. I think Obama does his best to conduct himself in a professional politician type of way without clingin on to issues that only address one group of people.

What’s all this nonsense about “we” are trying to take down our own and whatnot? Just who exactly is “we”. What you are assuming with all this talk of Black on Black hate nonsense, when all those brothas were doing was exercising their God given democratic right to critical thought, questioning, and analysis is that we (Black people) are all the same. Understand the detrimental nature of this assumption - it means, whether you realise it or not, that all Black folk must and will sacrifice their voices on the altar of the mythical and divisive construct of unitary and aggregated Blackness.

Again I tell you, we are not all the same. I understand why white people like this idea, but what’s your excuse? Do you have the same thoughts as a Temne or a Zulu or Southern cat or a Havard elite brotha? Expand your horizons and see the diverse mind-sets that congregate around this term called Black and dot the “terrain Africana”. Should all Black people just fall back into silence as if Obama is not human just like everybody else, and prone to mistakes, pre-suppositons and assumptions about Blackness? He wants to be the president, critical questioning comes with the territory.

He’s not gonna win because we dont question him. Because white people are asking him all the relevant questions anyway, and you know this…maaan! He’s gonna win because (and if) his reasoning (after crtical questioning) leaves the voter’s logic unable to go against itself and vote against him. And if he fails to do that, he’s already told us what we can do: “vote for somebody else, or run for office ourselves”. I know that if he wins, the global Black Mind will certainly have a psychological payday, but assuming you know him because of all this “he’s one of us” nonsense is quite simply the wrong thing to do and might equally lead to a psychological recession.

Stay focused people.

I’m tired of the “He’s not running for President of Black Americans but for All Americans” I don’t think anyone expects Obama to cater to African Americans but he needs to address our plight uniquely and specifically as he has done for Lationos (as he is very much willing to work with illegal immigrants), gays, women ,working class whites, and jews.

He’s been to native american rallies, gay/lesbian rallies, he’s met with jews, he’s spoken to the world in Berlin, why not with us. No, Shawn Bell and Jena 6 is not enough and it’s trite to think that that would suffice.

What these hecklers did was brave and correct. I’m glad that some of us are not thinking we can roll up at the back door of the white house for brotha man hookup once Obama is elected.

#59….you’re all over the place….if you truly believe we’re not all the same (as i do too), then issues like “jena 6″ shouldn’t be thrust to the forefront as a “black issue” because not all black people think thats one of our major problems…..therefore, we shouldn’t all be forced to give a damn…..those kids were out of line.

Personally, I don’t see anything wrong w/what the brothers asked. The manner in which they asked wasn’t cool at all, but I believe black people are afraid to express themselves b/c we don’t want to be seen as “owning Obama.” Hey, every other group doesn’t hesitate to make mention of their needs, so why should we? Obama handled this in a cool, calm, collected manner. He allowed this brother to ask his question and laid down the facts. Enough said.

We know Obama is not just the presumptive president of black America. If I hear that term one more time, I will pull my hair out, but there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with AA’s wanted to know what Obama’s plans are for our community. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Why is it that we are so afraid to question him when others aren’t? The disruption was absolutely wrong, but I don’t have a problem w/this brother asking him questions. It’s almost like we have apologize for being black. We are our worst critics, and that says a lot.

Really Gloss, it’s that easy? Your condescending attitude is as appalling as your “solution”. I’ve taught in the Boston Public Schools and can give a first hand account as to how the system’s failures are equally due to corrupt government and lacking parenting. The solution is not so easy as you say. No one is asking Obama for a handout. These “hecklers” want Obama to address their issues just as he has done for other groups.

I do agree with you on one point–It is our responsibility to make our communities a better place but you can’t expect one to do it alone.

Obama has made dozens of speeches virtually agreeing to support israel just to appease jewish voters- can you imagine him being allowed to make a speech supporting italy or china to appease those minorities?
i respect those men for making that stand and not believing that just because obama’s is black we must support him- that kind of thinking is dangerous- obama is just a puppet

@ 65…the problem wasn’t with the boy’s question..it was that they didn’t even research what they were asking, then they tried to ruin his speech by putting up a sign and making scene. it was a bit foolish.

getmoney, do you understand that the voucher system is set up to destroy black communities? First of all, the voucher system says, hey, your kids school is not meeting state standards (ps state standards are mediocre) so we will give you an option to go to another school. Nine times out of ten, the other school is outside of your community. What happens when so many students leave that community? The community shuts down. Vouchers and charter schools are code words for black. Under “No Child Left Behind,” it is not guaranteed that any school has to accept your child. You child could be behind an entire semester, quarter, or even year before they get accepted. Which schools are considered “above standard,” schools where whites are in the majority, or at least they comprise a great chunk of your school population. Now, as a school teacher, who is a part of one of those so called “better schools,” let me tell you. I have never understood why we as a people believe that learning only goes on when white students are present. In these integrated settings, your child is most likely to be racially profiled by scared white female teachers and they are placed in “low level classes” almost automatically. Why is it that black teachers have always been able to teach black students until the sudden emphasis on standardized tests have occurred. Why is it that black students who were taught in black school districts have been able to succeed at the same rates as their white counterparts until standardized testing? You think about that. School vouchers are just another word depend on whites to make it better.

Oh Angel :(

That is a sad thing to say. McCain is always attacked about things at almost every event he has had. I know, been to my share. I have never see him ask anyone to leave. That man did have a point when he call on Obama on his lack of reaction in the Jena 6 and the Sean Bell cases. When in very recent year that is the sort of thing he would have been all over. I do respect the fact that he is not falling prey to the BLACK BOX that a lot of African American are trying to put him in. I think that once voters( the ones whose sole purpose is to get a black man any black man in office) Will take issue with Obama in the comming months. There are going to be a lot more of people like these young men. Let us not forget there are two other black people intending to run. (Cynthia McKinney, Jackson Kirk Grimes) The dont have a snow ball chance, but if the say the right thing to black vote who are diappointed in Obama for not appearing more PRO BLACK, it will really hurt His chances. Like Kerry and Nader.
