POLITICS: OBAMA ON REPARATIONS + REPUBLICANS GAG / PARIS RESPONDS TO MCCAIN AD / NEW MOCK CAMPAIGN ADS

Following the House’s recent apology for slavery and segregation, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said, “I have said in the past — and I’ll repeat again — that the best reparations we can provide are good schools in the inner city and jobs for people who are unemployed.”

According to Kibibi Tyehimba, co-chair of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America, “Let’s not be naive. Sen. Obama is running for president of the United States, and so he is in a constant battle to save his political life. In light of the demographics of this country, I don’t think it’s realistic to expect him to do anything other than what he’s done.”

Last week, Obama said that inflating tires to their correct levels could help people save fuel. Mark Salter, a top aide to Republican presidential candidate John McCain, gave reporters tire gauges inscribed with the words: “Obama’s energy plan”.

At a town hall rally in Ohio, Obama stated his plans to encourage the development of alternative fuels and his energy tax rebate proposal and added that Republicans were “lying about what my energy plan is”:

“The other thing is, they are making fun of a step that every expert says would absolutely reduce our oil consumption by three to four percent,” Obama said. “It’s like these guys take pride in being ignorant. They think it’s funny that they’re making fun of something that is actually true.”

PARIS RESPONDS TO MCCAIN AD

Responding to the McCain campaign’s use of her image in a controversial ad last week, Paris Hilton created a satirical ad of her own.

Dressed in a bathing suit, the 27-year-old threw her hat into the U.S. presidential race proclaiming:

“Hey America, I’m Paris Hilton and I’m a celebrity too. Only I’m not from the olden days and I’m not promising change like that other guy. I’m just hot. But then that wrinkly white-haired guy used me in his campaign ad, which I guess means I’m running for president. So thanks for the endorsement white-haired dude, and I want America to know I’m, like, totally ready to lead.”

Hilton also offers an alternative energy plan, combining elements from Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama: “We can do limited offshore drilling with strict environmental oversight while creating tax incentives to get Detroit making hybrid and electric cars…Energy crisis solved, I’ll see you at the debates, bitches!” Hilton then declares she’s working on picking a vice president. “I’m thinking Rihanna,” she said.

NEW MOCK CAMPAIGN ADS

Republican and Democratic presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama will appear in taped mock campaign ads during Thursday’s season finale of NBC’s Last Comic Standing.

Obama’s ad pokes fun at his poor bowling skills, and McCain is declared not funny, but funny looking. These light-hearted appearances are fitting following the intense back-and-forth nature of recent campaign ads between the two White House hopefuls.

  1. Question??

You know what since we black people want reparations so much maybe they should gave it to us. But I will be lmbao when they give us the reparations check. How much do u think 40 acres and a mule is worth today? Not jack s**t. Most of you’ll wont admit that u rather have money than a education. Educaction will get u more money than a reparations check would. Even if Obama plans to give us a reparation check, he has to go thru Congress and Congress would vote agianst. Even if Obama veto Congress vote, they would just do another recount and vote agianst it agian. So would u rather have the money or a free education? Aint we the ones always bawling about we dont have good schools??

OMG! Dukesman and Judah! I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE intellectual conversation on issues that matter! I can appreciate both your views for what they are and as a Black woman, I have “hope” in Barack Obama because clearly John McCain will continue what Dubya and his father started. Enough of the madness!

    Carry on! Peace!

Barack Obama might just be the United States of America’s first African-American president. John McCain might just be the United States of America’s oldest elected president.
