POLITICS: OBAMA’S NEW BOOK, NEW WAY TO ANNOUNCE VP / NEW CAMPAIGN ADS / TV ONE’S COVERAGE OF DNC

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Crown Publishers recently announced it will published the third book of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

Change We Can Believe In: Barack Obama’s Plan to Renew America’s Promise, due September 9, highlights the senator’s plans to re-vamp Washington politics.

It will include a foreword written by the candidate himself in which he’ll detail his policy stances and the importance of the upcoming election. The book will also be released in an audio and e-book version September 8, featuring a compilations of seven Obama speeches.

In an email to supporters, Obama’s campaign manager David Plouffe announced that Sen. Obama’s vice president choice would be revealed via email and text messages.

Barack Obama is about to make one of the most important decisions of this campaign — choosing a running mate. You have helped build this movement from the bottom up, and Barack wants you to be the first to know his choice.”

NEW CAMPAIGN ADS

Two weeks ago, Republican presidential candidate John McCain released an ad calling his Democratic counterpart “the biggest celebrity in the world”. The Obama campaign is now turning the attack on the Arizona senator, calling him “Washington’s biggest celebrity”.

A new television ad, titled “Embrace”, addresses the ways special interests in Washington have embraced McCain and how he has hugged right back, employing lobbyists in top positions and giving tax breaks to drug and oil companies, instead of working to ease the burden on middle-class families.

Continuing its portrayal of Obama’s celebrity status, the McCain campaign launched a new ad contending “life in the spotlight must be grand, but for the rest of us times are tough” over a montage of Obama magazine covers.

According to the ad:

“Obama voted to raise taxes on people making just $42,000. He promises more taxes on small business, seniors, your life savings, your family.

Painful taxes, hard choices for your budget, not ready to lead: that’s the real Obama.

TV ONE’S COVERAGE OF DNC

This year’s Democratic National Convention will be the first that features live coverage by a television network with a primarily black audience. Join TV One for its unprecedented coverage of the 2008 DNC with live, primetime broadcasts beginning August 25 at 8 p.m. EST.

Veteran journalists Joe Madison and Arthur Fennell will co-anchor the gavel-to-gavel broadcast, live from the Pepsi Center, seasoning video from the pool feed with occasional interviews from newsmakers on the convention floor. Rotating talent from the late-night show will provide regular cut-ins on the gavel-to-gavel coverage.

Show regulars include political analyst Roland Martin, civil rights activist Al Sharpton, celebrity chef G. Garvin, actor Hill Harper, comedian Sheryl Underwood, publisher Jamie Foster Brown and fashion expert Paul Wharton.

To be quite honest, I think CL should stop w/ the ad posts. SERIOUSLY. If you want your readers to be involved w/ the election…. give us FACTS and not ill-judged mud-slinging. This ad war is not something that should be indulged so I suggest you advise your readers to actually look for the knowledge and words each candidate is releasing. Please post more speeches, literaliture and etc. but NO MORE ads. No ones like a person who points fingers and you’re giving the “fingers” press coverage…

@11 I see where you’re coming from in terms of the ads, they are infact finger pointing. But viewing both candidates ads gives the voter an idea as to what type of strategy they are using in their campaign.

McCain tried to portray Obama’s celebrity as a negative image, and now Obama’s camp is using the same strategy which I personally thought was taking the low road. His ad should have been about him, not McCain. He’s doing the exact same thing McCain has been doing for the last 3 weeks. It’s too early in the game for name calling ans slandering.
