Okay I just watched the post, I am going to find someone with HBO, this is not to be missed.

AND IF U HAVEN’T READ “THE BLUEST EYE” You must do so and anyone who has a teenage daughter should read this book too. Its mature and in some parts for a very mature audience but its such an amazing book. Its actually my favorite book of all times.

I fell in love with Toni Morrison after “The Bluest Eye”. Thank you Toni for such an astounding and eye opening book about self love and acceptance v. white standards of beauty.

@ #2- I have got to read that book. Someone recommended it to me before but as soon as pay day comes I’m copping that book. I’m currently reading ‘The Coldest Winter Ever’ by Sister Souljah…got to love my black literature!

Oh yeah, The Bluest Eye is one of the best books ever. Every young girl needs to read it.

Aaaaarrrggghhh, I can’t stand Puff Piffy or whatever. Why is he in this? I swear he brings everything down a notch with his glue-eatin’ self.

Who is that guy with the glasses and long hair? Is he black? Im confused. And speaking about books, I just started reading “The Audacity of Hope” by Barack Obama. It is very interesting so far, I think you all should give it a try.

The musician with the long curly hair is one of the best guitarist in modern music.

    Slash from Guns and Roses.

His mother is Nigerian. She worked for David Bowie back in the day.

He has played with most top musicians in rock and pop including playing on Michael Jackson’s “Black and White”.

Possibly the Jimi Hendrix of our time.

We SHOULD know his name and face, he has had that same look for over 20 years.

I knew it was slash i just never kew he was mixed/black… very interesting.

  11. La Maestra

I NEVER KNEW SLASHES MAMMA WAS NIGERIAN!!! wow, and i have known who he is my whole life (my parents listened to a variety of music)

  12. La Maestra

    *Slash’s……my bad

I love the HBO specials! I watched their special on a struggling predominantly black high school in NJ/NY that was struggling in graduation rates and academic goals. CL recommend that as well. It was very good and brought tears to my eyes a few times.

Anywho, I look forward to watching this as well. Thanks CL!

    Thanks #10 for the enlightenment!!

  15. YEAH, I SAID IT!

Hallalujah!!!!! Finally something on tv that I can really wrap my mind around. Interesting factoid on Slash, I never knew he was mixed either. I guess I should have known after he rocked out with Teddy Riley and Blackstreet.
The Bluest Eye deals with incest and some violence so it may not be for really young girls.

  16. H-Town Chic***

I never read “The coldest winter ever” or “The bluest eyes” but those most def books I plan on purchasing. I always hear great reviews on these books.

On the topic I don’t have HBO lol…

  17. MW09

I love this special…..BTW I LOVE the background today!!!!!

HBO never disappoints w/ it’s docs. If you ever get the chance check out ‘Lalee’s Kin’, a doc that aired on HBO a few years ago. It is quite compelling as it chronicles the life of a poor black Mississippi delta resident.

  19. MEYOU

‘Song of Solomon’ by Toni Morrison is a good one too
