Jennifer Hudson performed her rendition of the national anthem Thursday afternoon at Mile High Stadium in Denver to kick off the final day of the Democratic National Convention.
Earlier this week, the ‘Dreamgirls’ Oscar winner and former “American Idol” contender was asked personally by Senator Obama to perform at the event. Hudson, who calls Barack a “great role model,” told Entertainment Tonight that she had never yet sang for such a large crowd.
“This is definitely one of the biggest honors for me,” she said. “It’s something that I’ve really wanted to do.”
fyi…the reason why beyonce keeps popping up in this post isn’t because they were cast mates in dreamgirls and it’s not about weight or who can sing better..or whatever….it’s because JHUD’s version sounds a lot like the version beyonce did a couple of years ago….if she didn’t wanna be compared the Queen Bee, then she should’ve changed it up a little more

Hell, I thought she did a GREAT job! She didn’t hit high notes like I would’ve liked but then that would’ve been me wanting her to sound like Whitney’s version. Here is a list of my favorite national anthem singers:

Jen did her thing. Her voice is awesome and I love listening to her. For whomever said she sound like any church singer, ummm you sound like you have been programmed by white society! Those are our roots you idiot! And quite frankly something I welcome in this new society riddled with nothing but SEX which is part of the reason why I cannot stand Beyonce. Sex is why she is where she is today. Sex sells and she does it really well. As far as talent, not so much. I’m sorry B fans, but B’s version was not good. She almost saved it at the end, but her arrogance killed it. She sang this like it was about her, not about the nation. Get over yourself B! Jen SANG this song like she was proud of this day!!!!!!!!
She did quite well! I am not a big fan of JHud but she is the home town so I will give it to her for making it! She has a theatrical voice…for broadway or gospel.

i am from chicago and i am proud of it. I am a fan of jennifer hudson but i think she could have did better. The performance wasnt that good. Dont get me wrong she can still sing it just wasnt my cup of tea. For all the Beyonce fans she did good but this post isnt about her so dont bring her up. I think if people dont have anything to say about the post posted than dont say nothing cause you guys lose focuse on what the post is about. There are many post about beyonce so go post something about her on that post not on any one else post. As a matter of fact i say dont bring nobody name up (including whitney houston or mariah carey) cause the post aint about them either. Jenny from Chi killed it! It was not her “best” performance because she seemed a bit nervous, but it was still a solid performance, and I am sure Senator Obama asked her because he is representin’ for Chicago! Stand up!

See, this is what makes me sick. Black people ALWAYS bringing each other down. Jenny did a GREAT job…i got goosebumps. Beyonce did a great job too. And YES she has more control over her voice…she’s had singing lessons since she was a CHILD. Jennifer grew up in her church, where vibrato shows emotion in the choir. She’ll get better….even though she is marvelous now.

ANOTHER DUMB ASS STATEMENT FROM A STAN.
I think the Jennifer did a great job. It’s hard to sing when you’re nervous and also when you have a really strong voice. Would you be able to perform in front of 84,000 people without wavering? I think over time Jennifer will be able to control her voice. Once she does, there will be no stopping her. She is very talented despite all of the comparisons to Beyonce. Usuallly when people compare you to someone else that means you definitely have something people want to talk about. I have had the chance to see both Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson perform live at Movie Rocks and I enjoyed every moment of it. They are both talented and have their own style. I can’t wait to represent for Jen and buy her album.

For the record, Mary J. Blige can sing!! She doesn’t have an Oscar but I’m sure her numerous AMA, Grammy, etc all speak for her singing abilities. And, furthermore she has vocal control which comes after practice practice practice. I don’t think you can compare someone that has been in the business 2-4 years to someone that has been in the biz 20 years. When I think of great singers I think of Whitney, Chaka, Mariah, Patti, Faith Evans, Angela Winbush. I’m sure Jennifer will improve in time. She is well on her way but not quite there yet.

Ahm…..J Hud did a great job. She is new to the game and the composure she showed amongst all those people and at such a historic event was great in and of itself. J Hud has a powerful voice and should be held in her own right and not compared to people who have been out for ten or more years with training by opera singers etc. Let us not forget how thin the air is there and how that calls for some serious adjustment in and of itself. This girl has been blessed and was blessed to perform at such a moment in history. She will indeed blossom even more.
