VIDEO: JENNIFER HUDSON PERFORMS NATIONAL ANTHEM AT DNC

Thursday, August 28, 2008

Jennifer Hudson performed her rendition of the national anthem Thursday afternoon at Mile High Stadium in Denver to kick off the final day of the Democratic National Convention.

Earlier this week, the ‘Dreamgirls’ Oscar winner and former “American Idol” contender was asked personally by Senator Obama to perform at the event. Hudson, who calls Barack a “great role model,” told Entertainment Tonight that she had never yet sang for such a large crowd.

“This is definitely one of the biggest honors for me,” she said. “It’s something that I’ve really wanted to do.”

@ Queen Bey

I loves me some BEE and I never will deny that but I have to answer some of your question

J.Hud hasn’t put out an cd yet so Obama can’t take his daughters to her concerts yet.

As far as J.Hud look not all women wants to look like Bee I think J.Hud is comfortable with who she is

J.Hud just did her National Anthem last night so she can’t have a million hits yet on you tube.

I think J.Hud has a churchy voice and at times it bothers me at time but there is room for everyone.

Why does she always sound like she’s singing in church? What is with the screaming and over singing? Why the ugly belt and cheap wig? Why is she getting fatter?

End of rant.

I’m not a huge fan of JHUD, but I give her her props, she had tears in my eyes, and I am not AN EMOTIONAL PERSON, she did her thing and I am proud of her, love Beyonce but they are just two different types of singers.

” Kevin- If Barack Obama wanted or felt like “typical”, “overrated” “would drug it out” Beyonce could have done better than he would have asked her to sing. But it’s obvious that Jennifer Hudson is a better singer than Beyonce that’s why Barack “PERSONALLY” asked for Jennifer.”

Actually,I think Beyonce is a better singer and I’m not a fan of hers either. I think Jennifer lacks refinement. She needs to polish up her live performance next time. It seemed really amateurish IMO.

“in a particular way. If being a “better singer” had anything to do with it… then he couldve easily chosen Patti Labelle, Jordin Sparks, Celine Dion, and YES even Whitney Houston!”

I was with you until you named Jordin (fat a$$)Sparks. Are you for real? That is a complete insult to the real singers you mentioned.

Hudson was iite didnt give me goosebumps && it wasnt anything to write home about && Christina isnt a great singer at all, all she does is scream at the top of her lungs. I think bey would have done a good job cause she tore it up before

“I agree i’m tired of beyonce’s tina turner/mariah imitations. corny. Jhud upstaged her on the Oscars and JHud Sings L I V E

Jennifer didn’t outshine anyone at the Oscars. As a matter of fact, both her and Bey made complete a$$es out of themselves trying to outsing each other. It ended up sounding a MESS.

Would someone take a moment and look at how many times Beyonce was mentioned in comments about Jennifer Hudson singing the National Anthem?

I dare say it appeared here about as many times as it would have if Mrs. Knowles-Carter had sung the anthem herself. We need to learn how to make our comments contextually appropriate.

That being said, Jennifer Hudson’s rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was unique and touching. Though not perfect, her personal soul stirring treatment set the tone for the evening: incesant fervor. Barack Obama, I believe asked her personally because of the strength her voice delivers. If you watched him speak last night, you saw that he also delivered with incesant fervor.

The one thing that Whitney has the Jennifer doesn’t yet is CONTROL. Jennifer shouted and belted the entire song, she was all over the place. What made whitney’s so special was the fact that she knows how to control her voice and when she got to the belting part, she knocked itout the park and stayed in tune. Jenn was pitchy and sometims flat(last note)

It is time for a change !

It is time for Real Talented people in the industry to stand up and it is time for us to support them.

Jennifer Hudson you are a real talent and I commend you, Barak sees greatness in you that’s why he personally ask you to perform on a night that is historical.

Just the mere fact that Barak ask her personally is an honor.

Jennifer is a beatuiful woman and has accomplished great things, so she is great beyond words.

It is amazing what god can do!

I think J-Hud did an excellent job! Not only did she sing it live but she also sang out doors. There is a 180% difference when you since out doors than in doors. I believe that nerves and the wind were factors as to why her performance wasn’t 100% but she nailed it at 98%.

Jennifer Hud did a great job. However why compare every artist to Beyonce. I will tell you why. Its called “Brainwash”. She is advertised so damn much to the point were you have to like her and believe. She is not the best singer. Nobody is really, because everyone sangs differntly people have differnt taste. Jennifer Hud has a strong voice, somewhat shaky, but she did an amazing job. Beyonce did an amazing job when she sung it a few years ago. Its like Beyonce is the best everything uh stans? What about real singers with real voices and real songs like Alicia Keys, Mary J, Keishay Cole, Tamia. All great singers …all compared to Beyonce just like J Hud. Let someone else shine for a change. J Hud did a good job. Im just saying..take care

A loud, one-dimensional, no texture, no beauty, hard tone mess.

If her voice had some texture and variation and if her tone was pleasant, he could be dynamic. As it stands…ugh…she needs to stick to gospel and big numbers.

And LMFAO @ her going faster than the piano accompaniment at the beginning. She was rushing so badly. Honey did you rehearse it? She was so off-rhythm through the whole sing, and rushing through everything. LOL @ her messing up the big section by rushing out of the “bridge”. I am done.

fyi…the reason why beyonce keeps popping up in this post isn’t because they were cast mates in dreamgirls and it’s not about weight or who can sing better..or whatever….it’s because JHUD’s version sounds a lot like the version beyonce did a couple of years ago….if she didn’t wanna be compared the Queen Bee, then she should’ve changed it up a little more

Jen did her thing. Her voice is awesome and I love listening to her. For whomever said she sound like any church singer, ummm you sound like you have been programmed by white society! Those are our roots you idiot! And quite frankly something I welcome in this new society riddled with nothing but SEX which is part of the reason why I cannot stand Beyonce. Sex is why she is where she is today. Sex sells and she does it really well. As far as talent, not so much. I’m sorry B fans, but B’s version was not good. She almost saved it at the end, but her arrogance killed it. She sang this like it was about her, not about the nation. Get over yourself B! Jen SANG this song like she was proud of this day!!!!!!!!

I think if people dont have anything to say about the post posted than dont say nothing cause you guys lose focuse on what the post is about. There are many post about beyonce so go post something about her on that post not on any one else post. See, this is what makes me sick. Black people ALWAYS bringing each other down. Jenny did a GREAT job…i got goosebumps. Beyonce did a great job too. And YES she has more control over her voice…she’s had singing lessons since she was a CHILD. Jennifer grew up in her church, where vibrato shows emotion in the choir. She’ll get better….even though she is marvelous now.

ALL of the non-singing, Bey stans *cough lady who wrote the LONG ass comment on BEy* sit the hell down. Jennifer is NEW to this. Stop the comparisons.

I think the Jennifer did a great job. It’s hard to sing when you’re nervous and also when you have a really strong voice. Would you be able to perform in front of 84,000 people without wavering? I think over time Jennifer will be able to control her voice. Once she does, there will be no stopping her. She is very talented despite all of the comparisons to Beyonce. Usuallly when people compare you to someone else that means you definitely have something people want to talk about. I have had the chance to see both Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson perform live at Movie Rocks and I enjoyed every moment of it. They are both talented and have their own style. I can’t wait to represent for Jen and buy her album. :-) OBAMA ‘08 BABY

For the record, Mary J. Blige can sing!! She doesn’t have an Oscar but I’m sure her numerous AMA, Grammy, etc all speak for her singing abilities. And, furthermore she has vocal control which comes after practice practice practice. I don’t think you can compare someone that has been in the business 2-4 years to someone that has been in the biz 20 years. When I think of great singers I think of Whitney, Chaka, Mariah, Patti, Faith Evans, Angela Winbush. I’m sure Jennifer will improve in time. She is well on her way but not quite there yet.

Ahm…..J Hud did a great job. She is new to the game and the composure she showed amongst all those people and at such a historic event was great in and of itself. J Hud has a powerful voice and should be held in her own right and not compared to people who have been out for ten or more years with training by opera singers etc. Let us not forget how thin the air is there and how that calls for some serious adjustment in and of itself. This girl has been blessed and was blessed to perform at such a moment in history. She will indeed blossom even more.
