Santogold aka Santi White just released a new video for her song, “Lights Out” off of her self-titled debut album (in stores now). This is one of my favorite songs off of her release and after finally meeting her earlier this summer, I can definitely say that Santi is a very cool and talented person.
In related news, She recently announced that she was working with Jay-Z on an upcoming song. I know that’s gonna be dope.
saw this before and i loved it of course. santi is that chick. songs like this make me wonder why ppl say she’s trying to be MIA. MIA would never make a song like this. yes certain santi songs are similar to MIA’s songs but overall, they’re so different

I actually appreciate Santogold. She is very different and you can’t really put her into a category. Plus she used to be in a Punk band and you can’t hate on that.

Wow wired music and video, I suppose she’s going to sell big time over here in Europe, but lets be real this is rock music but that doesn’t neccessarily means its crap its just different so is she..
I waited until the she cooled off and gave her songs a fair listen and I just can’t get into her. You can tell I’m not a bandwagoner simply because I don’t force myself to like something that doesn’t sound good to ME.
The only song I can even remotely tolerate is “Creator”. Why? One Because it’s very Diplo-esque and it sounds good in the club/parties. Two, because the production sounds like somethinig MIA would do, and I can’t get enough of MIA.
On the other hand, she has a hint of Res within her voice and song content. So why wouldn’t I just listen to Res?
Santogold is a combination of artists rolled into one, but personally, I would just rather listen to all of those artists individually.
I like Santigold but this video was a lil boring though, I don’t know if CW haven’t notice but she’s like a naturally pretty or maybe it just me ( I look for different things in people that no one else has, then that regular glamrous pretty)

she use to write and produce for Res which would explain their similarities. She has been in the hipster for quite some time I just think that since she came out after these artist had their break it’s harder for people to take her serious because they think that she is a poser when technically she isn’t. She isn’t one of them people who just got on this hipster scene because it is popular and because is is “different” Santogold is what she is and has been doing her for so long. I think it’s hard for writers to escape the stinch of the arists they write for sometimes. So it’s like, when writers finally hit the stage and become the artist, fans get deja vu. Thus labeling the writer/artist, a biter/poser.
For me, when I’m exposed to a new artist, I expect new content. (Go figure right? Lol). But you can’t expect to lend your signature material to other people and then come out like you’re offering something “new”.

and i agree with whoever said santi is really pretty. ppl don’t realize how pretty she is b/c she’s not all glamorous and doesn’t wear tons of makeup but if you gave her a makeup artist (and a hair stylist lol), she would look just as good as some of the starlets that are so hyped up looks-wise b/c those chicks spend hours on the makeup chair to get their look

WTF??..I only liked the My Drive Thru song with Pharell. But she is STILL super wierd to me. I know some say she’s different and all, but there’s a diffrence between being different and wierd. I don’t get all the hype about her, she acts posssessed sometimes. Her voice can get very annoying, and the type of music that it is just doesn’t WOW me. It sounds like a commerical.. Target status or something around there.

Is this a bad thing? I think that artists create a sound, and sometimes it just fits with an idea. This is beneficial to both: brands and artists themselves.
