Wow wired music and video, I suppose she’s going to sell big time over here in Europe, but lets be real this is rock music but that doesn’t neccessarily means its crap its just different so is she..

I waited until the she cooled off and gave her songs a fair listen and I just can’t get into her. You can tell I’m not a bandwagoner simply because I don’t force myself to like something that doesn’t sound good to ME.

The only song I can even remotely tolerate is “Creator”. Why? One Because it’s very Diplo-esque and it sounds good in the club/parties. Two, because the production sounds like somethinig MIA would do, and I can’t get enough of MIA.

On the other hand, she has a hint of Res within her voice and song content. So why wouldn’t I just listen to Res?

Santogold is a combination of artists rolled into one, but personally, I would just rather listen to all of those artists individually.

She has been in the hipster for quite some time I just think that since she came out after these artist had their break it’s harder for people to take her serious because they think that she is a poser when technically she isn’t. I think it’s hard for writers to escape the stinch of the arists they write for sometimes. So it’s like, when writers finally hit the stage and become the artist, fans get deja vu. Thus labeling the writer/artist, a biter/poser.

For me, when I’m exposed to a new artist, I expect new content. (Go figure right? Lol). But you can’t expect to lend your signature material to other people and then come out like you’re offering something “new”.

Is this a bad thing? I think that artists create a sound, and sometimes it just fits with an idea. This is beneficial to both: brands and artists themselves.

Being a teenager in the 80s I can totally appreciate Santogold. Her sound reminds me of groups like Bow Wow Wow, Siouxsie and the Bandshees, Cyndi Lauper, The Cure and the Go-Gos with an urban feel. She along with Solange and Janelle are brining back creativity, individuality, quirkiness and raw talent. Thank God the booty shaking, non/over singing wannabee diva is almost on its way out.

It’s gonna be interesting to watch the curve of Santogold’s success, since so many black listeners have a closed-minded “Urban” ear (see Beauty Q. T.), while so many “Alternative” listeners find her particular brand subpar (Devron)…

Also, consider this: M.I.A. and Santogold are friends and colleagues who share production talent on a lot of projects. No one complains about the similarities in Boosie and Webbie’s music, or the parallels that can be drawn between a T.I. song and one from Young Dro. It’s not Santi’s fault if she and Maya are the only Artists of their ilk with which you are familiar. However it is, unfortunately, her problem.
