It’s been a long time coming, but finally, Jazmine Sullivan releases her debut album, Fearless, tomorrow, September 23rd via J. Records.
CL has been following Jazmine Sullivan for quite some time. She has always amazed with that voice and her stellar writing ability, and this project has been a long time coming. First signed to Jive Records, the Philly native was dropped at tender age of 17, but quickly solidified herself as a gifted songwriter. I familiarized myself with Jazmine Sullivan first, 2 years ago with her demo of Christina Milian’s popular single, “Say I,” and later went back to research more of her material and was floored by her voice. And to find out that she was so young (Jazmine just turned 21 in April), I was even more captivated.
Then came the release of the powerhouse ballad, “♫ In Love With Another Man,” which we featured in our artist spotlight section, last October, nearly a year ago. The anticipation for Jazmine rose increasingly over the coming year, and finally, she dropped her official first single, produced by Missy Elliott, “♫ NEED U BAD” and the blogs and fans were sent in a frenzy. The stage was set for Sullivan to make her splash onto the scene.
On Fearless, Jazmine Sullivan experiments with a lot of different sounds. No track sounds like the next. There’s a little something for everyone on here, and it definitely just goes to show you that her voice can shine on any type of track. Not only does Jazmine tap into many different genres musically, Fearless features a myriad of diverse concepts and topics to choose from. On “Bust Your Windows,” Sullivan explores the rush of knocking out her lover’s windows after catching him with another girl, while on “Call Me Guilty,” she toys with the idea of taking action against a man who hits her. Even at her young age, Jazmine exhibits an effortless vocal as well as a bit of life experience.

I cannot wait but I am going have to wait see her live because Maxwell and her people bumped their heads when they started asking for Janet, Prince and Madonna ticket prices WTH? Even Legendary Tina Turner offered reasonable tickets and she is at a bigger venue. But I digress I am going to get the album.

I heard the whole album over the weekend, and I too am a fan of Ms. Sullivan’s voice but I wasn’t that impressed with her album, I give her like 3 or 4 good songs, all the others were BLAH to me, I guess I was just expecting just a little bit more from her with such a powerful voice.. oh well maybe next time gadget..

Jazmine can definitely sing, but I wouldn’t quite call her voice versatile. She pretty much sings in the same register the entire album. Her album constitutes diversity, but not her vocals.

I’ve been hearing the buzz about Jazmine for some time and while I Need You bad is cool I’m not sure if I will rush out and buy her cd just yet…. I will see her in concert when Maxwell comes to Detroit on October 19th…. if I’m moved by her singing [and if I can remember anything other than Maxwell after the concert... lol] I might go and cop her cd then…. we’ll see….

This CD is a MUST have! She is a beast….LOVE IT! Hurricain is amazing…the whole CD is fire….vocally she is a mix between Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys. She has a great sound and you will not be dissapointed. One of my favorite tracks that kinda snuck up on me was “One Night Stand”. CL is right when they tell you the subject matter is mature and varied. Music lovers will really appreciate this CD.

Lions, Tigers, and Bears is hands down the best song. She needs to release that next instead of Bust Your Windows.
Vocals – SICK. Lyrics – SICK (they are real and to the point, and this sometimes offends people…like talking about killing someone or having a one night stand, etc.). Tracks/production- B.
You can hear influences from Lauryn Hill, Tweet, Monica, Brandy, Stevie Wonder… among others. Great album. But was expecting some more creative tracks/productions. Thankfully, the amazing voice saves her even if the track is blah.
I already knew how old jazzy was, they often air her age on my local radio station, but Im not sure how she really looks her photos are like three peop and also I here she has a weight problem, but her weight is on point in every pic I’ve seen. Her music is the jam, I just want to know which photo is the best reflection of her???

“Lions, Tigers, and Bears” would’ve definitel been a great second single. I think that while “Bust Your Windows” is an interesting song, it’s too typical.
But, yeah, I’ve heard quite a few of Jazmine’s songs over the years, and I have loved her talent every since.

her and solange are bringin something a lil different this time around…. although vocally i dont think solange wants it with jazzy! u feel me…. but Lions Tigers and Bears is a classin. that orchestra behind her voice…. its a moving song. i could see her performing that song at the grammy’s. that would be amazing! the lyrics to that song are so moving.. i too had too listen to that song over and over when i first haerd it. i felt like i was really in the wizard of oz when i listened to it. i know im rambling but is the only song ive heard that acually put me in a zone where i started day dreaming. it should be the next single but then again it should’nt. maybe the third or fourth to conclude the album. they should put it out when everyone knows who she is, so it can have a major impact on radio. i can c the whole video in my head. i predict grammy nominations for her on this album. 21 and she’s already a vet. one day im gonna perform with her… jus watch! and for anyone who thinks she only sing one genre, her song one night stand took me by surprise too… its pop, and i love her voice on it. she is special. i cant say enough about her.

I heard the cd over the weekend , I love 10/12 songs which is pretty much the whole album.
And each song is different, she really changes it up on this album.
Im currently have the track Fear on repeat, but Lions, Tears, and Bear is definitely one of the BEST songs on the album.
