It’s been a long time coming, but finally, Jazmine Sullivan releases her debut album, Fearless, tomorrow, September 23rd via J. Records.

LISTEN UP:

CL has been following Jazmine Sullivan for quite some time. She has always amazed with that voice and her stellar writing ability, and this project has been a long time coming. First signed to Jive Records, the Philly native was dropped at tender age of 17, but quickly solidified herself as a gifted songwriter. I familiarized myself with Jazmine Sullivan first, 2 years ago with her demo of Christina Milian’s popular single, “Say I,” and later went back to research more of her material and was floored by her voice. And to find out that she was so young (Jazmine just turned 21 in April), I was even more captivated.

Then came the release of the powerhouse ballad, “♫ In Love With Another Man,” which we featured in our artist spotlight section, last October, nearly a year ago. The anticipation for Jazmine rose increasingly over the coming year, and finally, she dropped her official first single, produced by Missy Elliott, “♫ NEED U BAD” and the blogs and fans were sent in a frenzy. The stage was set for Sullivan to make her splash onto the scene.

On Fearless, Jazmine Sullivan experiments with a lot of different sounds. No track sounds like the next. There’s a little something for everyone on here, and it definitely just goes to show you that her voice can shine on any type of track. Not only does Jazmine tap into many different genres musically, Fearless features a myriad of diverse concepts and topics to choose from. On “Bust Your Windows,” Sullivan explores the rush of knocking out her lover’s windows after catching him with another girl, while on “Call Me Guilty,” she toys with the idea of taking action against a man who hits her. Even at her young age, Jazmine exhibits an effortless vocal as well as a bit of life experience.

Stand-out tracks include the songs listed above, as well as Stargate-produced “After the Hurricane,” “Lions, Tigers & Bears,” the bonus track, “Switch” and “Dream Big.”

Make sure you pick up Jazmine’s new album, Fearless, in stores and online everywhere tomorrow!

    I agree with some of the other commenters….the album is not what it could be.
    Stand out tracks are Bust Your Windows, One Night Stand, After the Hurricane, and Need U Bad. In Love With Another Man is a good song as well. However, for $9, I will still support, and perhaps the others will grow on me.

    @55

    Unfortunately, only 4 of those songs are on the album

    I soooo love Jazmine Sullivan’s voice. The girl has skills, and I will defintely buy the album right after class or before. Finally some real R&B after about a year or two of newcomers that just suck. One single or one album and you never hear from them again. Hope there’s more good singers to come to give some of these singers a run for their money……

    I love….love…love…this CD and of course Jazmine.I know everyone was probably expecting to hear what they hear on Youtube and Imeem..but I’m glad she did something totally different..every song is different and refreshing..I have been waiting for a long time and for people over 28 don’t forget she is only 21..and those are the things that people that age talk about or are going through( oh yeah she did write every song) just imagine as she grows and matures what damage she gonna do……but understand Jazmine can sing a Jazz song like some of the greats…I bought two because Artists these days that can really sing like this are not given the credit that they deserve and she certainly deserves it.. Im tired of hearing Rihanna and these commercial artists that can hardly belt it out live….Oh by the way she will be on The Tonight Show with J-Leno tonight 9/30/08..so watch my girl do her thing…love you Jaz..you did great with your first one…

  21. Breezy

    I don’t know WHY these record labels keep signing YOUNG people that LOOK 35. Ex: Lil Mama…. That’s backwards. It doesn’t matter if she’s young if she’s gonna have crows feet a month after the album is released….

  22. Ken

    I’m so in love with this girl! Her album is phenomenal.
