♫ ALICIA KEYS & JACK WHITE - “ANOTHER WAY TO DIE”
Thursday, September 18, 2008

A while back, we announced that Alicia Keys would be teaming up with Jack White of the White Stripes for the theme to the new James Bond film, Quantum of the Solace, after rumors of everyone from Amy Winehouse to Beyonce recording it at first. Well, finally, here’s the track from the upcoming film, which hits theaters everywhere November 14th, starring Daniel Craig.
I always love Bond themes, so this is a great record to me. I really like the darkness of it, and the way their voices clash - it just works for the song, the guitar, the production, everything. But how do you guys think the track will compare to the other James Bond themes?

like the music and how it is dark…but i am not liking when they sing together on the song…..jack does not do it for me and actually I hate the part where they sing together…..I get the urge to want to cut it

I think the song would have been better without A. Keys. I like it though, fits the theme of the movie…

I like the production and I love A. Keys, but this genre is really not fer her. I actually think Beyonce and Amy Winehouse wouldn’t have been great choices either with their vocals. Amy has more of a deep jazz sound and Beyonce is strictly pop. A perfect choice they should’ve chosen was either Gwen Stefani or Kelly Clarkson to be honest in my opinion. What do you guys think?

After the hour of intro, the song is very James Bond. I like it.

#12 Kelly and Gwen are too pop…and let’s just face it - with Gwen you’d have essentially gotten SPOKEN WORDS as opposed to vocals… I actually think Amy Winehouse was the perfect choice but she just wouldn’t take it seriously…though she did say she might get her own single done and released to compete with the release of this song..so I guess she CAN get things done when she wants to…I don’t think she’s done that, though…I guess with all the controversy surrounding this song (it was used in a commercial and Jack White was pissed about it) she felt vindicated. Oh well…wish it could have been Amy but NO WAY would Beyonce, Kelly, or Gwen have worked…and Leona Lewis would have been just funny!

I like it, but it’s not great. Jack White is a genius as far as his White Stripes work goes. Hopefully this post won’t get flooded by those “just cuz it’s different doesn’t mean it’s good” posts. That shit is so played out now.
I’m eagerly awaiting the new James Bond movie. The prospect of seeing that fine ass Daniel Craig strip down again is too exciting. If James Bond was real thats one white dude I’d never turn down lol. So damn sexy. Pierce Brosnan in Golden Eye was hot too.

I love the song but obviously Alicia’s name was used to sensationalize the whole “who will sing the Bond Song” thing…Are those Jack’s vocals you hear throughout the entire thing? And the bit of Alicia’s voice that’s sort of apparent sounds FAR TOO bubblegum R&B…I think she was chosen because she’s a musician and not merely a singer and that’s about the only thing that would have been respected after Amy couldn’t do it.

hmm…
I love the instrumental…
I like Jack White’s vocal parts…
I really don’t think Miss Keys adds anything. Her vocal parts are not as interesting as when she sings her own stuff, it doesn’t capatalise on what she’s good at.
Sorry to be a hater, but I would have preferred Mr White doing this solo (or maybe with Beth Ditto). It’s still good though.

I like it. But Amy Winehouse would have been the better choice or Kelli Clarkson. And this sound would not have worked for Beyonce.

Kelly Clarkson was pop only on her very first album then she switched over to rock and sounds nothing like pop anymore. Some people were upset of her switching over, but I think her rock album was 10times better than her pop album.
I guess you’re right about Gwen though I really loved when she was with no doubt and doing rock music with them. I guess that’s what I was thinking of.
I thought of the girl from evanescence too, but her voice is too light. I donno…thanks for exchanging you opinion though.

Not too crazy about this song. But, it does have that catchy/simple element to it, like all of Alicia’s other records. So, there’s a possibility that it’ll do well. I mean, her song, “No One” did, so why not this one?

It’s ok to me. I do like the production. I think Pink or Amy probably would have been a better fit for Alicia’s part. But hey Amy is unreasonable about being upset, the film execs couldn’t wait on her forever.

After hearing this song Pink is the first choice and Beyonce is the second choice. Both would work the hell out of this live as far as Amy I just dont hear it, it would be like Alicia’s version boring….
Everyone always saying Beyonce hollars but Alicia has her beat by 10 miles with the hollaring thing. But to pull that song off live with a dope video Beyonce or Pink either one would’ve done it justice but Alicia…No. She got this one because of her humanitarian stuff only. Bad call on this one…

Wow I didn’t think of Pink…great choice.
Beyonce is not edgy enough for this song and she’s a pop artist.

HOLY SH*T!!!!!!
I’M A JAMES BOND GEEK, MY FAV IS “A VIEW TO A KILL,” AND THIS SONG KICKS MUCH BOOTY!!!!! THE CLASSIC SHIRLEY BASEY THEMES CAN’T BE TOUCHED BUT THIS IS SOMETHING NEW ALL TO ITSELF THAT COULD START IT’S OWN LEGACY.
TO HAVE THIS BE THE FIRST DUET FOR BOND MOVIES, IT SHOULD’VE BEEN DONE LONG TIME AGO BUT IF IT HAD, BY WHO…?
THIS ALSO SHOWS ALICIA’S RANGE TO BE ABLE TO COVER A ROCK TRACK. LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!! IT’S CRACK I TELL YA!

@31, give that Medieval nonsense a rest. At least it wouldn’t be so fucking hypocritical if society were to attack MEN equally for such acts. Women are always seen as whores whereas men are either left alone, or called “the man” for such behaviour.
Neither one is cool.

I don’t think anything is wrong with alicia’s voice. As a matter of fact, many of the other people you guys have mentioned, would be drowned out by the electric guitar in the song. And I’m not sure if Amy Whinehouse has the range for the song. The song is just dry that’s all. It’s not a great song. Like someone said, they need to go back to the drawing board with that one.

I LOVE ROCK, ITS MAINLY WHAT I LISTEN TO. THE SONG IS OK. ALICIA’S VOICE DIDN’T SEEM TO FIT THE SOUND. AMY LEE, PINK, KELLY CLARKSON WOULD HAVE KILLED IT. MABY EVEN MICHELLE BRANCH OR HAILEY WILLIAMS. I LOVE HAILEYS VOICE.

i like the song, but as has been said, alicia doesn’t add anything to the song. i’d go with kelly clarkson, and pink as my second choice. beyonce has the vocals to pull it off, but her pop image would just make it weird. think about it: beyonce + jack white??? not going to work. i’d like to hear jack white do this solo - i think i’d prefer that version.
