I’ve been getting sew in’s ( my natural hair braided) and have noticed growth with my hair when I get it redone every couple months. Is having my hair braided helping or hurting my hair. I noticed it is not as thick,( I should mention I am bi-racial, black and white, my hair is already a little fine to begin with to give you an idea) but it is actually growing, I noticed a little bit of breakage though after my hair is taken out of the braids. I am ready to wear my natural hair but want to keep it braided if it helping, but if it’s hurting, what can I do to help the process of my hair growing?

Do you have any suggestions of over the counter products I can purchase to use on my thick and course hair? I have a hard time managing my hair in between hair salon visits. My hair cut is a bit shorter than Rihanna’s but similar style.

I would like to know what ursla recommends for natural hair/no perm to grow faster? What is the best way to get a sew in… net.. no net? What is the best brand/type (powder, rinse, permanent) of hair color to use? I have too many questions for one person but I really want to know these things. LOL

Blessings. I’ve been a loc wearer for over 6 years, what do your recommend for conditioning? Currently, I’m just using natural Almond Oil for shine, but I always find that the winter weather can be very harsh on my locs. Also, do you have any tips for curling your locs? Braiding gives a nice crimped looked, but I would like some large soft curls. My hair is mid back, but I have a thick head of hair, so using regular rollers is almost impossible…any suggestions?

Hi,
I’m about the same complexion as Ursula, maybe Kelly Rowland (somewhere in that family) and I really want to color my hair. Years ago I had blonde highlights but now my hair is its natural color (dark brown) and I would like to color all of my hair, if not all of my hair heavy highlights. The guy that does my hair suggest jet black, I knwo I don’t want blonde, btu there aren’t many color options. What do you suggest for your complection?

Hi Ursula! I noticed that those celebs who wear naural hair and have to make daily appearences also get their hair styled daily. In between visits with my stylist I use a FHI flat iron but I’ve noticed major damage. Should I only allow my stylist to use heat in my hair? I thought that as long as you apply haet to clean hair than you wouldn’t be at risk of damaging it. What are your suggestions? Love you work! You’re a hair icon! Noel P.

Sorry Angel if this isn’t allowed but I figured with this being hair related and a majority of viewers being black females I felt that I should post this link.
http://forum.blackhairmedia.com that site has helped me with getting my hair healthy and growing my hair. It focuses on how to care for, maintain health, and grow black hair along with sections about lacefront wigs and weaves and natural hair care.
Ursula, what are some of the best hair care products for kinky hair that you use on clients hair that are under $20?

Ursula,
I just took out a sew in and noticed my hair is breaking especially in the back. I left the sew in-in for about 2 weeks(which is the norm for me). I feel like my hair is dirty if I leave it any longer. I have shoulder length hair with a black rinse. I just got my ends clipped last month. A sew in is just so convenient for me that I get them in maybe once every few months. If not my hair is usually in a long layered wrap. How long should I give my hair a break in between sew ins. Or does it make a difference?

I hate doing my hair.. I’m lazy but i want something funky.
So after thinking about it and not wanting all the fuss of natural hair, I think I like Chrisette Michelle’s hair ( and high lights ) in her video “Love is You”
How can I do this, keep it versatile like she does? Are there any other options? Is short hair the way to go for low maintenance yet makes a statement.
I work in IT so I can pretty much do whatever, but I’m jus ttoo lazy to curl and do a bunch of stuff to it everyday.
Up to 3 months ago it was bald, now it’s a short for, so I’m still in between and would like hair that rocks.

I wear sew-in weaves all the time & it helps my natural growth alot…but I wanted to try getting my tracks glued in but I’m afraid because Ive heard soo many horror stores about glue & problems with removing it && it possibly damaging my own hair. I really want to try it because I love how it looks more natural & it seems like you can do more styles with it then sew-ins…should I try it or keep my sew -ins?..

Hey Ursula,
You know any good hair products for naturally curly hair, that will keep it moisturized after air drying. My hair is really thick, and is a more wavy than cury, but just gets dry and nappy when it dries. Please help. Thanks.
Oh, a few products I have tried, but have failed me are: Motions foaming lotion, Brocato curlkarma, and Aveda be curly. (I use Mizani shapoo & conditioner, which I love)

Dear Ursula Stephen, I am transitioning from relaxed to natural hair (for about five months now) and I am noticing that my hair is shedding not a lot but when i touch it or try and detangle it with my fingers in comes out (a couple of strands) easier than it did when I was relaxed, Also my hair tangles and mattes more than it used to. I have very dry hair (always have) and it is also very thick about shoulder length. Any tips on how i can make my transitioning process as smooth as possiable? Any products that could help? P.S. how can i control damage, spilt ends, and make my hair softer?
Thank you,

This may sound like some previous questions, excuse the unitentional redundance
I have been wearing my hair naturally for about 3 years. I generally only go to the salon when it’s time for a trim (and sometimes I don’t do that as regular as I should) and I don’t wear it straight very often to reduce heat damage. I know several cute styles for my natural hair, which by the way swings just a few inches above my strap, but I’m interested in coloring my hair. I’ve been hearing a few things about henna coloring. Or course, I wanna try it since it’s all natural. Can you do henna’s at home and where can I go about finding henna coloring products in Nashville,TN? Secondly, I saw a re-run of the Tyra show a day or so ago and they were saying it’s better to use a plug-in hot comb versus a flat iron. How true is that and what which would suggest for natural straight styles? I never wear weave so I don’t need any suggestions that include that option…thanks in advance

Hi Ursula, I have two questions.
I have recently cut the remains of my relaxed ends in June and have been all natural for 2 1/2 months. My biggest issue is finding a good leave in treatment that will give me manageability and shine. So far I have only found luck with my mango butter that I use for my twist outs, but I feel that even with the mango butter my hair is still missing something. Do you know of any good leave in treatments for natural hair that would promote manageability and shine?
My second question is with the winter months coming up I know I will need a protective style that will keep my natural hair in the best condition and protected during the colder days. What protective styles do you recommend for natural hair? I would like a style I can wear to work and still look professional and one I can manage on the weekends.
Also if you have any other suggestions, feel free to throw that in too!
Thank You

Hey Ursula,
I have long (a little above the elbow) length hair and i want to cut it into a style but i have no idea what will work for me. My face is oval (i guess you can say), but when i wear my hair out(in blowdried state) it makes my face look even longer. i dont mind cutting off a couple inches (below my shoulder is my limit). What do you suggest i do? and also my hair gets curly when wet but i go from looking like Christina Millian at the 2003 MTV music awards to Diana Ross as soon as it dries. I’ve used gel before but it makes my hair hard and dry. What do you reccomend i use to keep my curls soft and frizz free? Thank you so much for taking the time out to read this and any of you radvice is greatly appreciated.
