Looks like all those rumors about Jennifer Hudson dating former VH1 “I Love New York” contestant David ‘Punk” Otunga are true. People.com confirmed not only that, but announced that the two are now engaged:
Jennifer Hudson and boyfriend, David Otunga, have gotten engaged, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.
“I can confirm that Jennifer got engaged to her boyfriend David on Friday night in L.A.” says the rep.
Otunga, who is known as “Punk” from the reality show I Love New York 2, popped the question with a Neil Lane diamond ring on the Dreamgirls Oscar winner’s 27th birthday.
The couple, who have been dating less than a year, both hail from Chicago.
The internet has been buzzing about the secret couple for a while now after many photos surfaced of the two attended various events together, including this Fantasia concert in Chicago – however Punk always stayed in the background. Hopefully, they’ll make a public appearance together after this, I think they are a nice looking couple. Congrats Jenn!

David is successful in his own right, he is well established lawyer, he works for the Rainbow Coailition with Jesse Jackson, he’s a Harvard Law grad. I think she did pretty good for herself, he doesn’t strike me as a gay man, metro but not gay.

This morning I came upon an article about Jennifer Hudson being engaged… and I thought,”Well good for her.” I was a a big fan during her American Idol days and I remember her speaking about her long-time boyfriend, good to know they are tying the knot, making honest people out of one another, or whatever…
So anyhoo, I click on the link, ‘cos heaven knows I like my juicy details; only to find that JHud is engaged to Punk from “I Love New York 2″…
So now I’m thinking, what happened to the old boyfriend and when (and how) on earth did Punk get in the picture? I’m not judging them or anything but I mean seriously! It’s not even the fact that Punk was an “I Love New York” reject (and the fact that New York was a two-time “Flavor of Love” reject!), but she’s only been seeing this guy for less than a year. Jennifer has worked so hard to get herself where she is today, I really don’t think she should be rushing into this. She’s young, super successful at this point can have any guy she wants, or at least a pretty wide(R) selection…
