Sammie has released some new promotional photos from his new album. His first single, “One Way Street” is impacting radio now, and if you’ve been keeping up with CL, you heard the track in one of our new music reviews. Sammie first came on to the scene back in 2000 with his debut album, From the Bottom to the Top and reemerged back in 2006 with his self-titled sophomore album, Sammie.
“One Way Street” is being released independently, via Empire Entertainment and has been getting some spins in a lot of southern markets. Looks like Sammie is officially all grown up!

Santogold covers the newest issue of MissBehave Magazine. The popular singer released her debut album earlier this year to critical and fan fame, but a lot of people don’t know she also worked behind the scenes as an A&R for Epic/Sony.
On being an A&R
My experiences have helped me make good decisions. Now I know what needs to happen and what doesn’t. I became friends with my boss and he eventually made me an A&R. I signed Res to a demo deal. I tried to sign Mos Def. Everyone I’d try to sign, the label would be like, ‘Um, this is weird.’ This was during Puffy’s heyday. I was like, ‘How about this?’ And they’d be like, ‘Weirdo.’
ON BEING COMPARED TO M.I.A.
MB: You say you sound like nothing else but you’re often compared to M.I.A. How frustrating is that?
Very. I just did an interview yesterday and we got into it because the reporter was like, ‘What is this, and what is this, and how old are you?’ And I was like, ‘Wow. Seriously?! Will you please just let me be? Will you just let the music be?’ The problem, and the source of my frustration, is that when people are unfamiliar with something, they always need to make it familiar in some way by categorizing it.
Santogold is currently on her ‘Goldrush’ tour sponsored by Myspace. Visit her myspace for dates.

It’s been a long time coming, but finally, Jazmine Sullivan releases her debut album, Fearless, tomorrow, September 23rd via J. Records.
LISTEN UP:
CL has been following Jazmine Sullivan for quite some time. She has always amazed with that voice and her stellar writing ability, and this project has been a long time coming. First signed to Jive Records, the Philly native was dropped at tender age of 17, but quickly solidified herself as a gifted songwriter. I familiarized myself with Jazmine Sullivan first, 2 years ago with her demo of Christina Milian’s popular single, “Say I,” and later went back to research more of her material and was floored by her voice. And to find out that she was so young (Jazmine just turned 21 in April), I was even more captivated.

Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain are gearing up for their first debate on Friday, September 26, at the University of Mississippi. Both campaigns have agreed to an unusual free-flowing format, but the McCain camp fought for and won a much more structured approach for the questioning at the vice presidential debate.
The Oct. 2 debate between Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Joe Biden, moderated by Gwen Ifill, will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees. McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive. Continue Reading »
