POLITICS: BARACK MUSIC / OBAMA T-SHIRT TROUBLE / US EMPIRE NEAR COLLAPSE

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

The presidential campaign of Barack Obama has sparked musical interest for a while, with “Yes We Can” and “We Are the Ones“. Now the campaign is getting an official soundtrack.

Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement features Kanye West, John Legend, Jill Scott and Lionel Richie, among others. Proceeds from the CD ($24.99 for a digital download, $30 for a physical product) will help fund Obama’s campaign until Nov. 4, Election Day, according to Hidden Beach Recordings, which created the CD.

OBAMA T-SHIRT TROUBLE

Daxx Dalton, an 11-year-old fifth grader at Aurora Frontier School in Colorado, says his first amendment rights are being violated after he was suspended for wearing a homemade t-shirt that readers “Obama is a terrorist’s best friend”.

The boy’s father, Dann, says the school made a major mistake by suspending his son for wearing the shirt: “It’s the public school system. Let’s be honest, it’s full of liberal loons.”

The school told Daxx that he had the choice of either changing his shirt, turning it inside out or being suspended. He chose suspension.

He said, “They’re taking away my right of freedom of speech. If I have the right to wear this shirt I’m going to use it. And if the only way to use it is get suspended, then I’m going to get suspended.” Paperwork from the school says he wasn’t suspended for wearing the shirt, but for willful disobedience and defiance.

The boy’s father says he intends to pursue a lawsuit against the district.

US EMPIRE NEAR COLLAPSE

While addressing the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared the American empire is near collapse and should end its military involvement in other countries.

“American empire in the world is reaching the end of its road, and its next rulers must limit their interference to their own borders,” Ahmadinejad said.

He added terrorism is spreading quickly in Afghanistan while “the occupiers” are still in Iraq nearly six years after Saddam Hussein was ousted from power.

Ahmadinejad also accused the U.S. of starting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to win votes in elections and blamed a “few bullying powers” for trying to undermine Iran’s nuclear program. Ahmadinejad accused “a small but deceitful number of people called Zionists … (of) dominating an important portion of the financial and monetary centers as well as the political decision-making centers of some European countries and the U.S.”

In an interview with the LA Times prior to his speech, Ahmadinejad said, “The U.S. government has made a series of mistakes in the past few decades. The imposition on the U.S. economy of the years of heavy military engagement and involvement around the world … the war in Iraq, for example. These are heavy costs imposed on the U.S. economy. The world economy can no longer tolerate the budgetary deficit and the financial pressures occurring from markets here in the United States, and by the U.S. government.”

As soon as I heard John Legends “If You’re Out There,” the first thought that came to my mind was that it should be the official song for the Obama campaign. I was stopped in my tracks. And now…the though—if only in part—has manifested. I will definitely grab a copy of this project in support of this legendary campaign.

As for the U.N. Conference yesterday, if things do not change among the upper echelons of the U.S. infrastructure, the comments made by Ahmadinejad may just be right. No civilized nation, regardless of size and influence, has been to big to fail.

How sad to see the cycle of racism continue to funnel its way from generation to generation. There is no way in hell that a 5th grader is aware of what terroism is about - his parents ought to be ashamed. I, for one, would love for him to fully explain the t-shirt - in his own words.

That T Shirt thing with the kid is ridiculous. Either he is about the precocious kid I’ve every heard of (which I seriously doubt since he can barely construct a decent sentence) or his parents made the idea up themselves.

Ridiculous!

As for the Iranian presidents comments, I don’t know how true it is that we’re at the end of our road but I do believe we need to withdraw from these other countries and mind our business.

“The school is filled with liberal loons” The real lunatics are the conservatives. They are the ones who are harboring this hate for Obama for no other reason other than he is black.

People are taking this freedom of speech and freedom of expression thing too far. The fact of the matter is, he is not the only one in the school and others might find the shirt offensive. The school has rules and if he was told to take it off he should have taken it off.

There are things you just don’t do….

If I were a DJ and hired to play at a cop convention, I would not play “I shot the Sheriff” Or I would not wear a Michael Vick jersey to a Westminister Dog Show. If I were the principal I would expel the cracker

The Iranian president is right. You cannot go to someone else’s house to tell them how to live or run their affairs when your house is fucked up.

Pick the beam out of your eye before you criticize the next person.

I don’t understand what the big deal is about the child’s shirt. The point of being a parent is to impart your morals onto your children, whether they may be deemed “good” or “evil” (according to the dictates of this society). If “free speech” was limited to things that “don’t offend people”, then that virtualy eliminates free speech and expression, doesn’t it.

PLEASE STOP SPREADING THAT RUMOR AROUND,

PLEASE DO NOT WEAR ANY OBAMA TSHIRTS, HATS TO THE VOTING POLLS.. YOU WILL BE TURNED AWAY. IT IS NOT LEGAL.. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD

This is a complete lie. Everyone should know. It’s not against the law. If this were the case, people couldn’t hand out literature outside the polls. Or houses bordering the poll site would have to remove their lawn signs and any other campaign materials. Not illegal. Definitely illogical It’s a clear violation of constitutional rights.

Im totally in support of Obama but if the story was about a kid wearing a t-shirt offensive to Mccain, most of the people commenting on this page would be on the kid’s side. Free speech is free speech whether you’re offended or you support it. And how can you possibly think you’re making a good point about the child’s parent being racist and then use the term cracker (#13) . Ridiculous. People amaze me everyday.

Being a father I would never willfully mislead my child. Yeah, you can impart your morals on your children but you cannot willfully mislead your children, based on your immoral convictions. This man is obviously a racist and he is teaching his son covert racism. See, white people when in polite company or in public will not come out and say I hate Obama because he is black, instead they cling to these false notion ( covert racism) that Obama is “a terrorist’s friend,” he is Muslim or he is high ranking official of the Hamas.

The father knows it’s not true but the 11 year old doesn’t. The kid is just going by what his dad tells him, trusting his dad would point him in the right direction. This is not the case.

All that shit about “Do not wear Obama T-Shirt to polling stations” are false. I will wear mine to the polls here in NY and I wish someone would try to turn me away.

You can wear whatever the fuck you want to wear. These are all known as Karl Rove tactics. Listen out for phone calls at our house telling you if it rains on the 4th stay home because you can vote on the 5th. Or they will have armed guards at most polling stations in the inner cities to stave off minority votes.

Another tactics is if unfortunately you have been foreclosed upon, the government knows this so when you go to the polls they will tell you that you’re no longer a resident of the state therefore you cannot cast your ballot there. These are all false.

Judah you are right to a certain degree. You should teach you kids good morals, but what is written on that t shirt is not a moral it is an opinion. But in all honesty he does have the right to wear it, but the school also has a right to suspend him. That statement on his shirt comes from his parents you can clearly tell and they have to really protect the other kids from his parents views.

I also agree Ahmadinejad, but I have known that for sometime now due to my previous occupation. The problems of this country run deep and have many layers and they deeper you dig to get to the truth the more it would hurt so many that believe in the principles of this country.

I will not pass judgement on the kid (or his parents) without even knowing what that child is/has been taught. And as a parent, all I can say is give the 11 yr old a break and give our youth some credit. They are a lot smarter than, obviously, any previous generation at their age. There are things we dont know or have not been made aware of about Obama that is driving this kid, his dad, and other groups to create “awareness”. And yes ppl, that includes terrorism or the dealings within. Who knows what that info is, but there are things worth bringing to the light that is not well liked and it is totally necessary just like the fact that the Bush family has known and associated with the Bin Laden for decades. Stop sitting on your hands yelling about nothing ppl. Find out why these ppl are against Obama(or anyone). See what foundation of information they have before you stone someone. And dont be so seasoned to believe that you cant believe there is a conspiracy or controversy that is so unbelievable.

45.

Let me just say this.... (I don't care if ya get mad)

Wearing campaign materials inside a polling location is electioneering to other voters inside the polling area, and it is prohibited. Voters wearing campaign paraphernalia will be asked to cover it up or turn it inside, if applicable. Each state is different regarding the law so contact your Secretary of State for factual information on the law below is an example of the law for Texas ————————————

§ 61.003. ELECTIONEERING AND LOITERING NEAR POLLING
PLACE PROHIBITED. (a) A person commits an offense if, during the
voting period and within 100 feet of an outside door through which a
voter may enter the building in which a polling place is located,
the person:
(1) loiters; or
(2) electioneers for or against any candidate,
measure, or political party.
(b) In this section, “voting period” means the period
beginning when the polls open for voting and ending when the polls
close or the last voter has voted, whichever is later.
(c) An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor.

Acts 1985, 69th Leg., ch. 211, § 1, eff. Jan. 1, 1986.

Have a great day and see you at the polls on November 4th.
——————–
I’m not sure about the boy and the -t-shirt…. he has a right to his opinion and his political view (if it’s his own or his parents is another story) but what his shirt or any other t-shirt says can sometime be offensive and that being the case has no place at all in the schools period. So no I don’t agree with this particular shirt on anyone

To naturally assume that because the child and his parents are against Sen. Obama just because they are racist… one is being just as ignorant as the child and his parents. There are many reasons as to why people are against Obama, it is not just because he is black. We have to stop meeting peoples ignorance with more ignorance. The result is more regressive than progressive. I don’t quite know if I agree that the child should have been able to wear that shirt to school, or if schools should even be allowed to censor students. As far as I do know… It is our constitutional right to have freedom of speech. We contradict ourselves by asking for freedom when it is convenient and then turning around and condemning those who take advantage of their freedoms when we don’t agree with them. I bet if that shirt said “Mccain… a CEO’s best friend” (which might as well be a terrorist with the way things are going) most of us wouldn’t say anything.

Just in case you are wondering, I am also for Obama. Although I was a Sen. Clinton supporter (due to her experience over his), I am voting for him because to have another elitist, republican, president would surely be our demise.

47.

JUDAH

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 /

@Tete

No sis, actually you are saying that because you’re an Obama supporter. That’s the only reason that you and the other people that are saying that, are saying that. If the child had on a shirt that said, “McCain will croak any day now and the terrorists will take over America!!!”, you negroes would have a goddamn collective kidney stone from laughing so hard. If that child were to have been suspended you all would’ve said, “What about freedom of speech and expression!!! It’s racism!!!”. This is why white people have a field day messing with black people because everything is about emotion with ya’ll.

@Mel

If the school is going to suspend him, if I were his parent I’d like to see what statute in the Board of Education or code they were using to enforce that decision. Is it because it is “offending” certain people, lol? You can tell a person, “God loves you.” and they can get offended if they’re an atheist. This is symptomatic of the weakness of the modern day American mindset. I never said what the child is doing is “good” or “bad”. Again, those are subjective terms. I said that he has the right to do express himself and his parents have the right to impart on their children what they want. No disrespect, but looking at the black community, black people need to be worried about their own children and what they’re not teaching them.

Regarding the school suspension and the T-Shirt:

What a low life ass hole of a father to USE his child for political and financial gain. He KNEW the boy would be asked to remove the shirt for its offensive nature; just as he would if the shirt read something about fucking his teacher, or any other controversial remarks. NOW he wants to sue the school. Why didn’t the father wear the shirt to his JOB?!? Instead he saw fit to USE his innocent son who is too young to understand ANYTHING political as a muse for his own agenda. WHAT AN ASSHOLE. Its okay for the father to feel a certain way, but to use his son is taking it too far.

…”According to a Georgia statute regarding “electioneering”, it is prohibited to wear a political tee within 150 feet of a polling office

This is no big deal: if you choose to wear your Obama shirt when you go to the polls on Nov. 4, you may or may not have to turn your shirt inside out before casting your vote. The decision rests entirely with the individual poll workers manning the door and whether they are Obama supporters or not.

This has never been an issue in Georgia before. This has only become an issue because the leading candidate is biracial.

Ironically, Barack Obama has no chance of winning Georgia anyway. Yesterday, a leading advertising network sent out an email to publishers requesting more impressions for Obama political ads for the month of October.

The email included a list of regions that Obama felt he could win. Georgia is not on that list. The states are listed as follows:

North Dakota
Iowa
Montana
New Mexico
Nevada
Colorado
Indiana
North Carolina
Virginia
Missouri
Ohio
Michigan
Pennsylvania
Florida…” (SR.com)

@ #45 Let me just say this…. (I don’t care if ya get mad)
____________________________________

This person made a valid point. We ALL need to make sure we check the laws for our State when it comes to election day. Believe me….the government will try and throw the smallest mistake/error to prevent our vote from counting. So yes…to all of you that may “want” to try and wear a shirt PLEASE be smart and keep a change of clothes in the car (in case you are wrong). Otherwise you will be cursing and upset (which should be at nobody but yourself) if you’re turned away because you were warned.

I agree….PLEEEEEEEEASE POST #1’s comment as we grow closer towards November 4th.

Peace and Luv

@50 you are missing my state (OREGON) on your list. You may have your “lil Mccains” running around here but this state is for OBAMA ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m black…but these white folks here are SERIOUS Obama supports (NO JOKE). I attended our annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure (Breast Cancer) on Sunday and there were individuals everywhere with signs that said “Women for Obama” and “Register to Vote”. They were pulling people left and right to vote. I LUVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : o )

Here in VA you will get turned away at the polls for wearing an Obama t-shirt. Its has been broadcast on the 6 o’clock news and on the radio stations. So don’t think you wear the shirt and expect to get away with it if somebody notices. Don’t give them a reason to turn you away.

Judah, I’m so sick and tired of coming to these posts only to find you and your ignorant rants, I am startng to believe that you enjoy posting garbage just to come back and post somemore(so don’t expect a response from me cuz I’m not feeding into it) The way I see it is the shirt is offensive, one to the many voters who put Obama in the democrat party and as well as Obama; secondly if they can bame slouching your pants, then why can’t they do something about this!!! If a black child had the same thing it still would be wrong. this is his parents opinion its so sad that he will grow up to be a follower instead of a leader, its a shame his parents are teaching him hate at such a young age.
And as far as Iran we need to pull out before more damage is done, when our economy hits rock bottom that would be the perfect time for Terrorist to hit us hard. Vote people because we can not go through another year of this, I know I want it and Honest to God we all need it …… CHANGE!!!
YES WE CAN!

@ B

If you’re so tired, why do you keep coming back and reading my comments? Negro please. If a black child had an anti-McCain t-shirt on, your retarded grits and cornbread eatin ass would be laughin’ it up. If you find the shirt offensive, don’t look at it. You think that because you like Obama you can tell everyone how to dress. Why aren’t you dumbass negroes as offended when your 12 and 13 year old daughters are dressed like whores and have piercings through their damn mouth, or when your son has red or blue rags hangin’ out the back of his pants. Get offended at that. Damn idiot. America is not (officially) in Iran yet so I have no idea what the hell you’re talking about and neither do you.

Schools do have a right to enforce dress codes, they just have to be sure to clearly state how his shirt was a violation of the dress code. Middle and elementary schools here in LA legally force students to wear uniforms. Also, freedom of speech only goes so far, libel and slander are AGAINST the law. N E ways, most parents transmit their beliefs to their kids, thats part of being a parent, but if they hate the public school system so much, they also have a right to home school their child. The parents probably did this on purpose so they could sue the district, maybe they are about to foreclose on their house or something :)

what the Iranian president is really saying, is that our days as a “superpower are numbered” …meaning Nuclear War. I’m sure no one really believes its for energy.

The intentions behind it is to bring their “messiah” back (allah), which in their koran it states that the only way he will return is if the world is in destruction. Which explains why they have become terrorists.

this is something very serious and biblical. We as Americans need to wake up!

Lol. You know what sis, I have no problem with disagreement but lets be intelligent. You know what I’m saying? What gets me about these people is that they address me with such rage and their facts are always so wrong that it’s ridiculous. When I call someone an idiot, it has nothing to do with their disagreeing with me. It has to do with the way that they come at me, as if they know what they’re talking about. They never do.

how in the blue hell can you tell me my reasoning behind saying what i did?obviously Barack does have some abrasive supporters but to think that ALL of his supporters are like that is just as ignorant as that boy’s t-shirt….

but since you know me and my motives better than i do,i’ll leave it alone….

Wow JUDAH, I thought you were a Christian? You quote scriptures left and right and call everyone satanists, yet you just used God’s name in vain. And don’t say u didn’t capitalize the G because there’s only one God.

Anyway Mahmoud Ahmadinejad couldn’t have said it better. America is going down in flames very soon. And you best believe Iran is next on our list of countries to terrorize using war tactics. Bush spent so much of our hard earned money on this war, and we have nothing to show for except dead and wounded soldiers as well as countless innocent families victimized and killed. Now our economy is going down the drain, and we’re still trying to police other countries SMDH. Barack-as much as I respect and support him- has his work cut out for him.

In regards to the boy who wore that shirt. He had the right to wear it, it is infact his first amendment right. The school on the other hand had the right to suspend him for his defiance. It’s obvious the father put him up to it. He was wrong for pimping his son for his beliefs, that’s sad. If I were anyone voting I would not wear any shirt with any candidates name or face, you are asking for trouble. They are desperate because they know Obama is going to win so they’re trying hard to deter voters from chosing Barack. Just wear your t-shirt or advertise your support when you leave the poles, it’s really not that serious.

71.

(shakes head in disbelief)

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 /

Before anyone posts another comment about this boy’s “right” to freedom of speech, please check the law. And by the law, I mean U.S. Supreme Court case law. People don’t have an absolute right to free speech. In fact, students has less free speech rights than the general public.Tinker vs. Des Moines dictates that the First Amendment protects the right of students to participate in free speech, such as wearing black armbands in a public high school, as a form of protest against the Viet Nam War. The Court ruled that this form of speech could only be prohibited by school administrators if they could show that it would cause a substantial disruption of the school’s educational mission.

Thus the real issue here is whether there was any interruption to class or school activities. We don’t know if his “rights” were violated until we get those facts.

@DaisyDukes

People have always disagreed with my stance on this site and that’s the way that I know that I’m correct, lol. It’s nothing new. Sis, I knew you would pop up so I’ll play a game with you based on your literacy and reading comprehension issues. It’s called “Use this Word in it’s Proper Context”.

1) What does the word “ignorant” mean and how does it apply?
2) What does the word “insular” mean and how does it apply?
3) What does the word “prejudiced” mean and how does it apply?
4) What does the word “bigoted” mean and how does it apply?

Bonus question:

Name 3 things that Barack Obama will do to save America from destruction, lmao.
